Compared with other hotels Don Cirillo is lacking friendly and charming service that you would expect in Italy. With hotels customer service is everything but here that felt like an after thought.....

Poor Service

Terrible experience dealing with the management at this hotel - really disappointed and frustrated. Found other masserias in the surrounding areas to be much friendlier and accommodating. Wish I had never booked.

Horrific service

Perfect big luxery room with your own big terrace for being lazy and reading a book. perfect breakfast , lovely garden and pool, perfect helpful staff. 
Next year we will visit the Masseria Don Cirillo again.

Perfect Masseria in south Italy

Don Cirillo (pro. chee-REE-lo) is just about perfect in every way.  Completely surrounded by (lovely) stone walls, it is an oasis of gardens and pathways hidden off the main roads in the otherwise rather barren and dry south Salento.  The Ionian Sea is visible in the distance and Don Cirillo is a short seven minute drive to the stone harbor-front walk at Torre San Giovanni or an eleven minute drive to a nice sand beach at Torre Mozza.

The masseria consists of a tall, three-story white stone central building and something like ten lodgings extending out from the center.  Our unit (No. 10) was at the end and felt very private.  It consisted of a large, barrel-vaulted ceiling, room with bed, desk, chairs, and mini-fridge.  There was a small window above the bed for light and ventilation and large window and door on the front.  Next to the bedroom was a large closet, built-in bureau, strong box, and also a very large bath with a cavernous tub/shower.  I don't know if we could have filled the tub in three days!   The room was dramatically modern/stark but with some excellent original artwork on the walls.  Bed was very comfortable (assuming you like very firm) and linens were, of course, first rate.

Our door opened onto a lovely, private covered patio with table, chairs and a padded sort-of day bed.  Beyond were waves of gigantic low hedges entirely of rosemary, then a stone walkway and, beyond, the beautiful lawn and gardens. with more sofas, tables and chairs scattered about.  It doesn't get any prettier than this setting.  There were olive and fig trees, broom, gigantic clusters of prickly pear cacti, geraniums, and all manner of flowering shrubs.  A very nice pool and deck with lounges are completely hidden behind hedges in a corner of the property.

The so-called "continental" breakfast is a lot more than that and it was a treat.  Served individually (i.e. not a buffet) in a nice, open air covered patio, there were yogurts, breads, rolls, freshly squeezed juice, excellent (of course) coffee and your choice of bacon, ham (prosciutto), and eggs.  A substantial (God knows why the previous would not be enough) "Italian" breakfast can be had for 10E.  No other meals are available at Don Cirillo but there is good eating at a number of restaurants on the coast or inland, all within an easy 20 minute drive.

Only two minor carps, and neither in any way really diminished our enjoyment.  WIFI most times was spotty (at best) in our quarters, although always good up at the reception area.  So if constant, perfect WIFI is an issue, be aware.  Second (and this really is minor) is that the only really "corporate" thing about our stay was that they charge for using water, soda, whatever in your fridge.  This was, by a pretty decent margin, the most expensive place we stayed in Puglia and Basilicata.  Every single other place had complimentary bottled water in the unit.  Touches like charging for water were a bit jarring and one of the few reminders that this was not a family-run olive farm, but a corporate effort.  These "defects" were more than overcome by the extraordinarily friendly, competent and totally charming two young women in reception and the waitstaff for breakfast.  They all were great.

Don C. was worth a totally relaxing retreat and worth every Euro.

Living the Beautiful Life I Deserve!

It is like a breath of fresh air to walk into the beautifully manicured garden of the Masseria, full of lush indigenous rosemary, sage and lavender within the walls of this zen place. The rooms are large with high ceilings and natural stone floors adding to the authenticity of this restored farm house. The welcome by the staff is warm and friendly and once you settle in here you feel like you've been invited by friends. Conversations with guests flow easily and it's a place you feel comfortable in and want to come back to. The town of Torre San Giovanni is a short drive down the road towards the coast and simple but excellent local home-grown food is available at La Bottega Dei Sapori.

Slow chic

Masseria Don Cirillo is a wonderful oasis is a beautiful part of Puglia.  This is a quality spot, that is well maintained with large, character-filled rooms on gorgeous grounds.  Breakfast is served outside, and is of high quality.  And the reception provided by Linda is exceptional.  All in all, a wonderful spot to put your head for a few nights, and a location I am eager to return to.

When Can I Return?

We spent 7 nights at the Don Cirillo and it was just wonderful. Everything was perfect !
1) We had the superior room and it was very large. The shower space is very nice with great pressure and a large space. Although the room is very close the masseria's garden, nothing entered the room (insects, etc...) beacuse it was very well kept. The room was always very clean.
2) Breakfast is simple but very good. Fresh and tasty products, eggs on demand, cheese, all served at your table.
3) the environment is extremly relaxing. Very large garden in the middle of the masseria where you can rest in the evening, wifi zone near the breakfast area, etc... However no wi fi in the rooms.
4) Linda was so helpful ! She made our stay perfect. She advised every day on which private beach to go, which restaurant to go to diner, etc... And all her recommandations were very good ! Thanks again Linda ;-)
5) Swimming pool is very very small so we never stayed there. Maybe the only negative point.
All in all, a wonderful B&B masseria ! Would definitely come back.
