Alla Rocca Hotel in Varena offers a modern take on traditional Trentino cuisine. The menu is varied, including locally sourced meats and fish, salads and burgers. As a vegetarian I was genuinely pleased to find so many interesting and well-executed vegetarian options. We began with a pumpkin hummus with Grana shavings and balsamic vinegar — elegant and well balanced — followed by a comforting orzo soup, perfect after a day outdoors. For mains, the polenta gnocchi with melted Gorgonzola and caramelised walnuts were rich and delicious, while the stuffed aubergine was unexpectedly light and full of flavour. Dessert was a classic strudel, beautifully made and very enjoyable. The staff were young, friendly, professional, and knowledgeable about the menu, which added to the overall experience. A great place to enjoy local cuisine with a modern twist. With so many excellent options, it’d be a good place to stay at while exploring the beautiful dolomites nearby and coming back every day to a tasty warm dinner.
