For an American, this is an experience you will never forget. The area is very beautiful, fresh in July, and private. The furnishings are all from the 14th and 15th centuries. The gardens are in full bloom. It's better to have a small car to park.

A splendid house full of history, with two superb, spacious rooms, in a lavish village...we were alone during our stay of two nights, and we were able to enjoy the fantastic charm of the place...to recommend, romanticism assured...Enrica is charming and welcoming, because there is no little dej but it is so good in the hotel next door...(the guidebook for a bed and breakfest imposes industrial products and not home, so don't regret..).

It's magical!

The hotel is located entirely outside of the city of Verona, and unless you have a car there's absolutely no getting to it from downtown, the nearest airport, or the train station. Of course, this is part of its charm. The location is way up on one of the mountains surrounding the Verona lake and overlooking the city; the fact that the borgo is also the location for a planetarium and a star observatory is a testament to the purity of the air and the lack of light pollution. On the day of our visit, it had snowed and the village was thus even more pleasant to visit. 
There is nothing, however, up there in the winter: no groceries, no restaurants open on the evening we stayed, no coffee shops, etc.

The "B & B" does not actually include breakfast in the room rate, which is a bit puzzling… but the hostess is accommodating and quite ready to prepare food if needed. The villa itself, on about 5 floors, was built in 1902 by sculptor and decorator Lodovico Pogliaghi, who retired to it, and where he built up his collection of ancient art, shown alongside models of his own works in a striking arrangement with a historical slant.
It is massive and certainly with its own character and style — not one I'd choose for my own home but one I can appreciate. It's full of exposed, chiseled wood and medieval-inspired decor, and the only downfall is that the remainder of the house (including heating and bathrooms) could use a makeover (but how do you update a historical home while keeping to the original feeling and style?).

We stayed in one of the rooms on the first floor which was comfortable and well appointed. Don't expect a mini fridge in the room or a telephone. It's a 115-year old villa from a gone era.
There is a ground-floor suite that must be stunning in the warmer season. The views from the upstairs are spectacular.

Overall, this was a good choice for our purpose, which was a romantic stop-over while en route to farther destinations. I'm not sure I'd spend longer unless I was looking for a do-nothing stay out of the way.

Historical house well outside city centre

Our room was the apartment at the bottom of the house which we did not book so was a lovely surprise.. It was spectacular. 

Very quirky and apparently built and painted by an artist which adds to the old style glamour of the place.

The views are incredible we were extremely impressed!

Fantastic

We enjoyed our stay at this wonderful hotel very much. The owner is a very kind lady who helped us wherever she could. We had an amazing room with a breathtaking view. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We shared the bathroom with another room. But since we were the only guests it felt like having the whole floor just for us. The breakfast was very nice and we enjoyed it in the living room with again an amazing view. We were also invited to spend dinner with the owner and her friends which was really great and our daughter was very welcomed as well and Enrica helped us to make our stay as comfortable as possible. The little town on the hill was very cute although almost everything was closed at this time of the year. It was hard to find a good restaurant but there are some nice places to go. We really loved our stay here and will for sure go back in summer time.

We really enjoyed our stay in this wonderful hotel. The owner is a very kind lady who helped us whenever she could. We had a beautiful room with a breathtaking view. It was all very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was shared with another room. But since we were the only guests, it seemed that we had all the plan at our disposal. The breakfast was very good and we enjoyed it in the living room where there was another wonderful view. We were also invited to dine with the owner and her friends which was really wonderful and our daughter was also the welcome Enrica helped us to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The car on the hill was very small and even if it was safe to stay in this city at this time of year. It was almost a good time to go back and we enjoyed some nice restaurants in the summer.

It's a wonderful stay.

First, on the plus side: Signora Enrica is a charming, welcoming woman who speaks some English.  But the reason we stayed here was the incomparable ratings and it just does not measure up to that.  Our room actually was a one bedroom apartment that had to be accessed via an external entrance down a windy path that is muddy when it rains and mostly unlit when it is dark.  It was roomy enough but nothing luxe about it.  And pretty chilly at night with no heat available in the mountains in late September.

Then there is the breakfast part of B&B.  When we asked about it, we were told it was not included; fine, we are happy with coffee, but then there was breakfast, and it was pressed on us.  When it came time to leave, Signora said she normally charged €10 extra per person per day for breakfast!  Oh, and by the way, you have to pay cash.  Signora claims the spotty Internet service prevents her from taking credit cards.  This helps her avoid credit card fees, and possibly some Italian taxes, but it is not so convenient for travelers.  In short, your satisfaction with your stay here will depend on where you are on the comfort/funk scale.

Funky does not mean fabulous

It's a beautifully enchanted place with a super friendly host, a cultivated atmosphere in total tranquility with a long view of Varese and the lakes - fantastic, I'd love to see it again! And all this is only 30 minutes from Malpensa! Santa Maria del Monte was not very busy even in August, so there was plenty of room on the way to Penance with its 14 chapels.

It's a dream!

Absolutely recommended! This villa not only looks fantastic, but our stay was also a dream! We felt very welcome and the hostess - Viola - pampered us with her lovely manner and a very rich breakfast. She speaks Italian, fluent English and can also speak French as well as Turkish and a little Russian. The house is stylishly renovated, very residential and equipped with many antiques. It has lavish rooms with balconies and a fantastic view to the di Varese, directly to the mountains. There are 3 rental rooms; two rooms on the upper floor share a bathroom, two on the lower floor have the Appartement in the Appartement. The house is located in a beautiful palace, with a beautiful view of the last resort of the Montecro Park.
