Hotel Albergo Barbara is a cute, quaint hotel on the square overlooking the bay in Vernazza. After a walk up 5 flights, including a spiral staircase that seems to go on forever, you’ll be treated to the nicest host and cleanest accommodations!  It’s very small, however it’s better than the pictures could describe, and plenty of AC!  We were out for the day and the housekeeper made our room impeccable. They even retrieved a luggage rack and placed my luggage on it without asking.  It’s a small, place, but you’ll be glad you stayed.

The cutest place in Vernazza!

The charm of Vernazza is mellow and serene. The staff sent very good instructions on how to find the hotel from the train station. The also let you know there are 6 very long flights of stairs to get to the hotel. The staff were kind enough to meet me downstairs and bring up my bag. 

The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Very much like the laid back vibe of cinque Tere. Right outside the hotel the sea is there, and loads of restaurants and shops. 

The room was very beachy and nicely decorated. No TV or kettle. Like most seaside area it’s really for sleeping. They did have a great air conditioner.

Great bed and big bathroom (private) with a good shower. 

The staff are not there all night and the hotel has about 8 rooms over two floors. No views from the rooms. They have rooms with shared bathroom, which was right next to mine. The walls are a bit thin so you can hear if people are talking loudly. 

Lots of stairs. A good workout for those who can walk up a lot of steps. Cinque Tere is like that everywhere.

Charming hotel in the heart of Vernazza

Easy walk downhill from the train station to a hotel that is right on the edge of the water. Our room had a view that looked out to the beach area and the piazza below.  Had very little interaction with the owners but they were friendly and helpful. Bathroom was very small and there were no cups in the room. There was quite a bit of noise from the piazza at night but we were there in March and it was chilly so people didn't stay around long, I think in the summer months this could be a problem if you are a light sleeper. When we came back to room the first night it was a struggle to get up the stairs because it was totally dark inside, we didn't find the light switch until daylight the next morning.

The place was in front of the sea, which was ideal. The hosts were very kind and welcoming, prepared to help. The rooms overall were rather simplistic and nice. Be mindful that the bathroom is not in the room, but that is not too much of an issue. It should be importantly noted however that the mattress was very uncomfortable: we could feel the wires, it was jumpy so wherever someone moved in the bed, so did you and hurt both our backs. The air conditioner also made a lot of noise. All in all, we barely slept...

Well situated, nice hosts but bad bed

The location is outstanding, in the piazza by the harbour, just metres from the sea. The staff were really helpful and friendly, would definitely stay again, but would book early and choose an ocean view.

We were in the double room on the 3rd floor, internal view and it seemed to have a couple of hot water tanks in the bathroom, making the room very warm. The small a/c unit was very loud so it was hard to sleep.

We saw the sea view rooms on check out and they didn't have the heat issue and looked great. We didn't see the attic rooms.

Fantastic location and staff, book early for best rooms.

Staff was super friendly and welcoming and rooms were really clean. 

Rooms are a bit dated, bed is a bit old, air-conditioner is really loud, towels are very thin, no tv, and no refrigerator.

They do have an awesome coffee machine upstairs that you can use between 8am and 12pm though.

Overall if you're just looking for a place to crash for the night and aren't too picky like I was, then this is a great place to stay

Very basic but clean hotel

Albergo Barbara was literally perfect in every way. Situated directly on the main square in Vernazza (the best village) we couldn’t have been better situated to explore the other villages! The staff are so helpful and friendly, they went out of their way to make sure we knew which train to catch, communicating via WhatsApp which was so handy, and recommended some local restaurants and wine. Our attic room was cosy and spotless, the beds are firm but comfortable, especially the pillows! There is a lovely view from the attic window over the water (plus free coffee!) I genuinely don’t understand the negative comments on here unless it has changed hands recently?? We were so happy with our stay and would definitely return! Thank you so much for a lovely 2 night stay 😊

Absolutely perfect!!!

From the outside it looks old and it has no lift BUT we absolutely loved our stay with a passion. Our room inside was newly revamped, clean and comfy. The bathroom was very clean and new. 
From our room we had an awesome view of the gorgeous boats in the harbour. 
The village square was so available to us. Ten places to eat/drink within 150 mtrs. The train station is a very short walk away. 
We swam most days in the clear Mediterranean Sea,  about 100 mtrs from our door. 
I will be heartily recommending this place to my friends. 

Position, Position, Position! 

We had a great stay!
The team was super nice, the room neat and clean and the view amazing. It’s located right by the sea and all the great restaurants are right infront of the door. We can definately recommend it and will come back soon.

Spent several nights at Albergo Barbara and would recommend it to people wanting a more spartan property in an excellent location. 

I had one of the attic en-suite rooms facing the harbor that was basic and clean. It was nothing fancy but I liked it. Some of my fellow travelers found the beds to be uncomfortable but I was fine with mine - I can usually sleep anywhere.

The only negatives I would point out is there are several flights of stairs some may find challenging including a very tight spiral going to the attic, also Vernazza was packed with tourists that congregated in the harbor area which diminished the charm of the town. They clear out after 6pm and the town is much more appealing.

If I return to the Cinque Terre I would stay here again.
