I have read many reviews about Royal Reef, formerly Regge Reef resort. And for sure back in 2005 when most reviews were dated, the place seemingly had some charm and was probably in a far better state of repair.

My Story. 
We arrived, a group of six Aussies late in the afternoon, thankfully before dark. It had been, and was still raining quite heavily on our arrival. We were greeted by a sweet young girl who checked us in and took payment. while waiting for the rooms to be made ready, (I had sent an emailed prior, to confirm of our arrival time, it was now after 4pm.) The girls went out to the bar, we were offered chicken nuggets for lunch as the kitchen wasn't open that day? I went looking for the girls some time later and found them marooned at the outdoor bar, no barman, but a lake rapidly forming between them and the main building. There room was ready, it seems the cleaners had some difficulty with plumbing in our room so we needed to be switched. No such problems for the girls, water flowed quite precipitously down the walls and puddled on the floor. The towels were stained the room smelt dank and mouldy and the hot water tap could not be attached to the wall. Their was a rather comforting sewer smell coming from outside the bedroom window. 

The second room came available and we all congregated in there weighing up our options, we had paid in full for our five nights on checkin without been able to see the rooms. On further inspection of the "Resort" we found the dinning area unclean with outdated facilities and furnishings, nothing like as seen in the photos on Booking.com.
The lake by the bar never receded, and after wading through I got access to the pool and beach area. Not looking good, the thought was, the beach existed in some other time zone. The ocean looked great, not much you can do to suff up the sea, just the course of action need to get to it was what interested me. The pools hadn't been cleaned since Obama retired the presidency. 
We approached the management to vent our concerns, his disinterest amazed us, I guess the joint between his lips was stopping the flow of words, we were in Jamaica after all. The girls at no point were offered another room. So we told them we wanted a refund and were flatly denied, the many other issues we raised e.g. lack of restaurant facilities and lack of alternate possible restaurants of site, were rebuffed, we were told with in 1 Klm walk we could find at least two other local restaurants available for our gastronomic needs to entice us in our five day stay, and after all it was only a 30min taxi ride in to Montego Bay. (you would have to ring a taxi to come out and collect you as the Royal Reef Shuttle service had not turned up for work) 
We did ring a Taxi shuttle service It took almost an hour to arrive, and we packed up our gear piled in to the mini bus, left the keys on reception and parted company with the Royal Reef. Booking.com did assist us in receiving our entire payment refunded.

Dilapidated Reef Resort, far from anywhere.

So many deceptions at the hotel. It does not look anyway as shown on booking.com. This resort advertised airport pickup so when i arrived at airport i spent over 1 hour calling and no one picked up and i could not leave a message because the mailbox was full. I decided to take a taxi to the hotel. When i arrived at the hotel I was told that  they do not accept Amex even it is advertised as accepting Amex. I paid cash and they did not have change so I told them that i will use the change for their taxi to take me to the airport the next day and therefore I arranged my airport transfer time at check in because i was only staying one night. Got to the room and the AC was not working so i had to move to another room. It is not all inclusive as advertised. Wifi is not available in room as advertised, When i could not connect to wifi i went back to the front desk and was told that the wifi does not work in my room and that i have to use wifi in the lobby. For breakfast i had to wait over 1 hour and was told that they were waiting on the tea to come and it was not worth the wait, terrible food. i requested a departure at 10:30 am so I went down to the lobby at 10:20 I found out that the driver for the taxi had to leave with other guests and that he would soon be back. at 11 am he still had not returned and I was upset because i had already paid for my airport transfer and concerned about missing my flight.
They decided to stop a taxi on the highway to take me to the airport. The owner (Oliver i think is his name) refused to pay the taxi nor refund my airport transfer cash that i paid with my change at checkin, he kept saying that the driver will be there in 5 mins which turned into 15 minutes. The owner was so rude that even the taxi driver had to curse him out for wasting his time. i decided to pay the taxi so that i do not miss my flight. Do not stay here. Terrible service and deceptive advertising. My friends who were planning to stay longer checked out right after I left.

My boyfriend and I had a great experience here. We booked through Airbnb and had no issues. The breakfast was included and it was AMAZING. Lunch/Dinner was available for purchase and it was equally as delicious. It is a bit far from the "touristy" spots like Margaritaville and Hip Strip but in our opinion it was well worth the money. Our a/c worked flawlessly and our room was cozy and cleaned regularly. On the days that we did not have transportation arranged, they helped us to secure it.

Please people don't waste your time ,money and energy  here 
Me and my family  we booked a three nights stay here we only stay one .the hotel is not as it seems in the photo on the Internet  .Firstly  the  name is different , the health  inspection  certificate  has expired  since 2016 , the rooms we had they were proper filty  . Dirty bathroom  with  no shower curtain or bath towels or bath mat , no bins in bathroom,blankets and duvet in the cupboard in the bedroom  on the floor , dust and dirt everywhere   , dirty tissue on the floor , outdated  tv  , wires hanging everywhere  ,torn up bed, not to mention  we  waited  over  two  hours  for our breakfast .the staff were  not friendly they all look unhappy , kitchen staff don't wear proper attire  with there long hair down and nails yet they were serving food , also from our room we could hear staff in the kitchen talking bad about guest.I could go on and on but let me stop here with a few photos for you the viewers to  look at .

Stay away at all costs 

Royal Reef Hotel! now Reggae Reef Hotel. Where do I begin? Hmmm...Firstly,  this is NOT a hotel! It is more of a guest house.  The pictures and descriptions online are very misleading.  It is quaint and clean but doesn't offer much.
There is Wi-Fi available.  The bedrooms are basic, simply decorated and have a small cable tv, a/c, chest, hot-water, but there is no iron, you'll have to borrow one from the front office and the room needs better lighting.
The staff is polite, jovial and helpful! 
Breakfast is included in your stay and is quite tasty.  Their Bar however needs upgrading, it's not inviting and neither are the drinks.
There are 2 pools of which one needs cleaning and also a hot tub.  The beach is small but the water is indeed beautiful!
Overall if you're just looking for a reasonable priced place to stay while you see the sights in Jamaica, this is the place. However,  with more effort, creativity and vision, the Reggae Reef could be a spectacular accommodation!
