THE GOOD
 
1. the employees were all amazing. Howard at the front desk wasa true professional and a great asset to the hotel.Dennis at the Bar was a a Jack of all trades working like he owned the hotel. Everyone was happy caring and always smiling.
2. LOCATION ! LOCATION ! LOCATION !!!!!
3.Clean rooms and no bugs.

THE UGLY.

Very deceiving ammenities on web site. we booked room 6 which said it had a stove,micro wave and coffee pot also free tioletries and bottled water. NONE WERE IN  THE ROOM.
We stayed 4 nights in room 6 The COZY COTTAGE 1 BEDROOM BEACHVIEW.
The picture shows this great suite on the beach but most of what you see is the restaurant and bar which block the beachview.
The ad also says the room is 398 sq ft. The room is only 180 sq ft and so small you are cramped into the room like sardines in a can.

the Good the Bad and the Ugly !!!!!

We moved in February to Firefly after an awful experience by one mile. We booked a fantastic one bedroom with a private balcony and were greeted with open arms & genuine hospitality.  We immediately fell in love.  Andrea and her staff are top rate and the vibe is so chill.  The grounds are immaculately kept, the beach is perfect with  a combination of shade under the almond tree or full sun on the beach.  And they have the best happy hour on the beach from 12-2! But Shush, this is the best kept secret!

This is a beautiful, relaxed hotel with excellent, immediate beach access and a very affordable bar/restaurant on the beach. The staff are so professional yet relaxed and you'll get all the help you need from the front desk, the restaurant servers, bar staff, and the groundskeeper (Robert is awesome), and the housekeeping is perfect. There's a security guard at night. All fees are in US although you have to be able to pay in Jamaican$. Great for kids and adults. 
Rooms
There is no standard room. They have a beautiful older building near the beach that has 3 or 4 floors and apartments. Some of those are beach facing and all or most had balconies whether beach or inland facing. All rooms had new, quiet mini-split air conditioning. There's a separate really cool house/apartment next to the bar that looks like a double. (The bar is empty early so noise not a problem)
Moving away from the beach, there are some really basic rooms (these are special requests and might get people who want to take the relaxed life for longer stays, basically it's a shed with a double bed, a desk, chair and a hanging line, these are not the same as the other rooms!) Moving farther from the beach, (still very close) the rooms generally had a kitchen and separate bedroom with bathroom. Some of the rooms had two floors, some one. All had mini-split A/C. 
You'll get soap, towels, towels for the beach, bed linens. 
Daily service was cleaning and making beds - we were impressed. 
Our Room
We had room/suite 16. Beautiful upper balcony and ground floor porch. It has a kitchen/living room and toilet/sink/shower (with hot) on the ground floor and an enclosed bedroom with full bed with mini-split AC and the rest of the upstairs with a mini-split and 3 more double beds. As well as towels and sheets, the kitchen had a 4 top cooker, a microwave, toaster, new fridge, cold water, and plates and cutlery with a cooking knife. (We loved the upgrade, thanks, Howard!)
There was a safe in the apartment. 
Bar/Restaurant
Inexpensive food priced in US dollars. Great drinks, mixed. A nice happy hour deal between 12 and 2 on appetizers and beers. The bar has a good atmosphere and people sit and chat. (generally older people, in our stay, it wasn't really a young crowd.)
Nearby amenities - the excellent amenities REALLY helped. 
Hi-Lo supermarket is a short walk on Norman Manley Boulevard. You can stock your fridge. Near Hi-Lo there is a Scotia Bank where you can take out US or Jamaican dollars. Also a pharmacy - note that the pharmacists are front line medical so can diagnose and knowledgeably treat basic conditions (ear infection with anti-biotic drops was a huge help.) It is a sophisticated pharmacy and you can get what you'd expect in a US/UK pharmacy. There is also a doctor's office there, but I didn't use it. And in that same shopping area you can get tourist stuff and try the patti shop. The Scotia Bank has a security person, but I did not feel threatened at all walking from the Firefly to the bank. (I'd been a little concerned before we got there.)
Vinnie's restaurant was right across the street and it is where locals and tourists from that area who are in the know go. Cash only, priced low for us and in Jamaican dollars but they take US. I love fish and had the steamed fillet which was among the best I've ever had. Fish and lobster comes from the local fish market and is local catch. Also the usual range of Jamaican jerk and curry dishes.  Go there!
On the beach
Firefly has beach beds that you can use. (Should there be a rule about not putting your towel on them to save it then not use it? Different thread.) People will sell you fruit on the beach which is great and bead bracelets, etc. If you don't want that stuff, don't engage but if someone speaks to you, it is always good to be polite but clear that you don't want it. I did not find this troublesome. 
You can also rent kayaks & SUPs nearby, bicycles, mopeds, etc. Parasailing was a great experience ($60 each, maybe get it for a little less?) We did a glass bottomed boat to the reef and were supplied with snorkelling stuff - great experience ($30 each.) We took snorkelling stuff with us but the beach doesn't have much to see under the surface - the reef is a short boat ride away. 

Is there a downside? Not really. There's some traffic noise if you are at the back/roadside end of Firefly. At the front end it is just ocean. I sleep too light, my family doesn't and noise didn't bother them. I usually use earplugs and they worked great for me. Especially on vacation in Jamaica, some people seem to sleep much better than usual, for different reasons! And there's the beautiful sound of insects outside in the warm night to lull you to sleep. 


Best place to stay on 7 mile!

The restaurant at Firefly cottages is AWESOME! We have eaten there several times pm our current trip. The garlic shrimp and the  jerk chicken pasta dish are amazing. The service is quick and friendly.  Also from 12-2pm they have a $2US red stripe special and $5 Us appetizers.

Firefly Restaurant is VERY GOOD!

We went to the restaurant at night for dinner on a whim….Food was great…we had the escovitch and pepper steak…Marco was our server and was excellent…Gluten free options and right on the beach, great dinner spot under the stars, chill vibes 🇯🇲

Great staffs, great food and drink, very peaceful, relaxing and affordable. Feel very safe.

Try booking with breakfast included, right on the best beach in the world. The Jamaican breakfast is out of this world.

Great, just great

The Firefly and C Grapes Bar was amazing. Probably one of the most cost effective places to stay on the beach. Hospitality was 5 stars, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Food and drinks were some of the best in Negril. Dennis the bar/restaurant manager was amazing the whole trip. The staff was equally great! Romantic and relaxing with all the options of fun right around you.

Amazing spot on the beach.

we didnt stay at this resort but ate at the restaurant and had lobster which was very tasteful and compared to back home it was inexpensive.  Thanks to Sophia she was such a nice and friendly waitress.

FireFly Restaurant

Staying in Room 7 with Queen bed and its perfect for us. Road noise is road noise and you dont think about or notice it. Food at Restaurant is over the top good and filling. Grounds are cleam and Lyon does great job. More later. Going snorkeling today!

Firefly Jan 27 to Feb 5th

We stayed here four nights and had a great time.  We like to split our vacation to a few days on the beach and on the cliffs.  Our family was comfortable in the two bedroom cottage.  It was not fancy but we had plenty of room.  The street noise was loud and the roosters crowed all night but we got used to it and played our white noise.  Bring some earplugs.  We had dinner on the beach our first night and is was delicious.  We also enjoyed breakfast daily but the coffee was hit or miss.  We like ours strong so I recommend making your own in your room.  We spend most of our time walking on the beach enjoying a cold Red Stripe at the many bars up and down the beach.  Our favorite place to hang is Tony's Hut.  It's about a 5 minute walk on the beach toward town.  We would definitely stay here again.  Andrea, Sharon,  Howard and the other members of the team were very helpful  and took care of all of our concerns.
