We really enjoyed our stay in a spacious room and had fun riding around Hakodate on the free bikes. The owner is super nice and his English is great. There is a store right next to the Guesthouse, that is open until late at night. We would definitely recommend it!!

Very nice place when on a budget

An old house. Steep stairs which are bad for the elderly; shared toilet and shower; everything looks ancient and rickety.
But this all makes it a fascinating experience of traditional Japan. And the owner could not have been nicer or more helpful. We were driven into town twice and felt like honoured guests.
This is a budget hotel but it provides a great experience you will talk about for years

Fascinating traditional residence

Great place to stay in Hakodate. The guesthouse is a little far way from the Station and the bus service is limited after peak hours. But the guesthouse does have bicycles to rent. You will need them since most of the good food places are located near the station. 

They have private traditional (tiny rooms) with japanese style Tatami mats. Quite cosy and comfortable for a solo traveler. They have common bathrooms & toilets to be used. Efficient kitchen for quick heating.

The caretaker is a happy jolly fellow. Will ensure your comfort is paramount. No rules or timing constraints. 

A suggestion, do have breakfast at the local market in the morning and do not leave the place without having Sea urchin.

Good comfortable stay

Tiny uncomfortable room, hard beds, noisy traffic, general feeling of decrepitude.Not a very warm welcome on a cold wet day. Owner maybe a little burned out. Kind of depressing. A good microwave and supermarket nearby. Glad we ownly booked one night.

Seen better days

The owner is really nice and he drove us to the train station the next morning. However the room we were in 1B was noisy on the road, there was no ventilation, bugs everywhere, tatami smelled off, the shower was very dirty and only one shower for the whole guest house. There was hair on my pillowcase, and guest could smoke indoors directly in front of our room. It was far from everything. But there were free bikes. I most likely would not return to stay.
