Firstly, i want to state that we opted to stay at this hotel for one reason , that it’s across from the train station and to facilitate our shopping at Gotemba outlet. For that reason alone, this hotel serves its purpose. That the staff were helpful, free liquor and curry rice provided during evening hours, good selection of restaurants around, meant I gave it 4 stars. The 2 star less was because the hotel itself is very dated and old . But it’s just for a night, not an issue to me.

Serves our purpose

Tiny, dated, dirty room that smelled awful.  There was a think layer of dust in the corners and a dirty stained bedspread.  However, the view of Mount Fuji was amazing.  Right across the street from the train station.  Walking distance to several restaurants.

This hotel is the worst I have experienced in Japan. It smells like cigarettes all over the and the rooms are dirty and nasty. To top it all, they have the worst customer service ever! We asked for additional pillows and thwy said there were no extras. And for the price it is not worth it at all. If we didnt check in late and had kids with us we will definitely find another place to stay. 

Disgusting Hotel and Bad Customer Service

If you're visiting this area this hotel is as central as possible. The rooms are larger than the Japanese average. However, be warned that the video on demand is actually only a choice of two channels one of which is terrible Japanese porn. Don't waste 1000 yen.

Convenient location and helpful staff

Choosing this hotel is totally a Terrible mistake. Awful service was all We got.
We didn’t do anything wrong,we just got there!!! But the way they treating us, was like we did something wrong.
The most unacceptable thing was their bad attitude.
All I can say is that I’m very very disappointed and choosing this hotel was totally a bad choice.
我真心不推薦任何華語系國家的人來住這間服務態度極差的旅館。我不知道是不是因為我們講中文，他們就用非常惡劣的態度對待我們，我後來也嘗試用日語與他們溝通，但對方不光不斷打斷我講話，還用更傲慢的態度表示自己沒有做錯任何事情，根本沒再聽我講話。最扯的是經理就站在旁邊假裝沒聽到一樣。他們的態度真的是令人無法接受，才剛到旅館就發生這樣的事情，而且還是在日本⋯真的很令人失望。
フロントのスタッフは初めからあいさつもなく無愛想な態度。
受付時の態度も明らかに接客するようなものではなく、その事についてクレームを入れたら謝罪もなし、話を聞くどころか言い訳を言い始め私が日本人ではないせいかバカにしてるような感じで大変不愉快。
そして隣にマネージャーがいたが何も対応せず理解し難い。
日本はおもてなしと言っているがせっかく日本に遊びに来てこんな態度で対応されたら日本自体の印象も良くない。
ここに泊まるより他のビジネスホテルの方がよっぽどいい。
ありえない。

Nothing good. Only location.

On early arrival at Gotembakan Hotel in Gotemba Japan, we were shocked when told to keep our luggages at the bag lockers in the train station across the road. The senior reception staff were not helpful which is surprising for Japan.  We also found out that it was low season and there were only few checkins that day. Everyone loves going to Japan because people are friendly BUT definitely not at this hotel!

WORST SERVICE HOTEL IN JAPAN

We went for two day shopping at Gotemba Outlet and chose this hotel for night hold. Very accessible as it is just few meters from the station. If accessibility is what you are looking for then look no further. However, it is not some kind of luxury hotel. It has very small decently cleaned rooms with the required amenities and that’s it. Overall 3/5

Very Accessible

Excellent location! just opposite of the station. Decided to stay here and not the popular hakone-yumoto because i wanted to visit the Fuji safari park and there's a direct bus to there from Gotemba station. There's a free shuttle bus to the outlet mall as well. I believe this location is quieter as compared to other parts of hakone, and yet still fairly easy to get to the attractions with the bus pass.

We left our luggage with staff when we were informed that our room wasn't ready. The hotel appeared nice from the reception. We were so wrong.

When we came back and got our keys we headed for the elevators to the 8th floor. The elevator reeked of cigarettes but we hoped the room would be better. 

I almost wretched at the smell. The wallpaper was ripped, the carpets were stained and the stench made our eyes sting. We went back to reception to request another room. We were asked why? And asked if we had used the washroom? 

Speaking of washrooms, it was yellowed and stank worse then the room itself. 

We were given a room on the 5th floor. After inspection we had to walk away from our reservation and lost our money.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. Stay far away from it. It needs to be renovated from the inside out.

Worse hotel I've been too

The hotel was in a good location. You can take a bus and it is just right off the bus station  - JR Gotemba. We stayed here primarily for it's location being near Mt. Fuji and the Gotemba Premium Outlets.  We had a family reunion in Japan and there were 29 of us.  We occupied 15 rooms in the hotel for 3 nights each.  The hotel is really old. The wallpapers are peeling off, the carpet have a lot of stains and smells bad, so much dust that one of my cousins had an asthma attack, the beds are old and lumpy. The rooms are super small, but then again most hotel rooms in Japan are small.  I was staying at an end suite and my room had a sofa.  The sofa had a hole in its upholstery and to hide it, they put a blanket over it.  The worst feature of this hotel though is the very bad customer service. We had to deal with a "manager" in the front desk and he was very rude.  We run out of green tea in our room and my daughter requested some from this manager and he said "no" without any explanations. When my daughter told me this, I was confused, I thought that maybe he just did not understand her. So I went down myself to the lobby and asked for the tea myself and I got the same response "no". At this point I was very annoyed since I am supposedly staying at a suite and it wasn't as if I was asking for a great deal. I told him that If it wasn't free then I will pay for a pack of tea since it was late and I did not want to go out and buy outside. And he relented and handed me 1 packet of tea. The following day we were all checking out but we wanted to go to the outlets before we left for Tokyo. The day before, we spoke to the person in the front desk notifying him that we will be leaving our luggage from 10am to 3PM, when we have to take the bus to Tokyo. He said no problem and it shouldn't be a problem since this is common courtesy for hotels to store luggage for the day for customers that have to check out early but are not leaving yet the city or area. The following day, we encountered the rude "manager" in the front desk and he told us that we cannot do that. At this point, we cannot leave earlier because the bus tickets we purchased for Tokyo are for 3:30PM!  We cannot also take our luggage to the Gotemba outlets because we have to take a bus there and we cannot be walking around with the all the luggage. So we complained, we asked for the manager and he claimed that he is the only manager and then we asked for the owner and he said he is unavailable. So at this point, we decided that we will just all do a late check out - all 15 rooms we were staying at, just to hold our luggage. He said we can put all our luggage in my room provided we pay Y10,000 (yen) which is equivalent to about $100. He claimed that the room they have for storage cannot accommodate the luggage and I told him, that in that case, what small / boutique hotels will do is leave it in the lobby and tie a string around it and cover with a blanket so it is still secure. We did not want to argue anymore and paid the $100 fee he charged.
