I spent one night only at the accomodation but wished I could have stayed longer. The host provided a detailed description in advanve of how to reach the property. The location is excellent, only about 5 min walking distance from Hakodate Station.  As soon as I stepped into the inn, I felt right at home. The host was very welcoming and helpful. The room was clean and there was everything I needed and the bath was so relaxing. If I'm ever back in Hakodate, I'll definitely stay at Pension Puppy Tail again. Thank you for everything!

Very Welcoming

Stayed here one night, on my way from Hokkaido to the festival in Aomori. The hotel is about 5-10 minute walk from the train station. The stay was quite satisfactory. Nothing fancy, but clean and adequate.

reasonable choice in Hakodate

The place has a very homely atmosphere.  Depending on the type of room you get, the room experience will differ.  The rooms are upstairs and this building does not have a lift.
Really liked the manner the guests are treated as friends by the staff.  On the day we arrived, a staff member cleaned the wheels of our luggage before we carried them to the room.  When we returned from a rainy day's outing, another staff member dried our shoes overnight.  The little touches made the stay a very pleasant one.

Enjoyable stay

Walking distance about 15min from Hakodate JR station. 
We slept 1st night at futton room for 3 people with sharing bathroom. Amazingly clean and comfortable.
The other 2 nights we uograded to futton room with attach bathroom for convenience. 
Very nice place to stay and the owner ( couple) are very kind. 
Very recommended place to stay. 

A homey place in Hakodate 

Very friendly staff who e-mailed us in advance to provide extra info, were incredibly friendly during our stay, and even wrote us a thank-you note afterwards. The hotel itself is nice and clean, with a convenient location near Hakodate station. Free parking available very close by. While breakfast is not provided, the hotel is close to the Hakodate morning market, so fresh sushi is only a stroll away.

Amazingly friendly staff

It was a completely local experience if you choose to stay at this place. The room is extremely spacious and was clean. Every little necessities are available and decorated in an interesting manner. Owners are very helpful. Even I stayed in the room for a couple of hours only I enjoyed very much.

Excellent Japanese experience

My friends and I stayed in the Japanese style room with futons on the 2nd floor - very big room compared to others, we could all open our baggage at the same time. There was only one shared bathroom but I never had to wait. You can experience Japanese bathroom from this hotel. They have sinks outside in the hallway too for brushing your teeth and washing your face. This hotel is located near the Hakodate station and the market only 5-10 minute walk. The owners were very nice and friendly. The internet access was super fast.

Boutique hotel

Puppy Tail is more of an Inn, or perhaps you can call it a boutique hotel. Rooms are on 2nd floor and there's no elevator, so do take this in consideration when travelling with elderly or with lots of luggage. Well located within walking distance to Asahikawa JR station and morning market. If you don't mind long walks (30 minutes or so), the Kanemori Red Brickhouse and the Bay Area may be accessible on foot too.
There's both Japanese and Western style rooms, and both ensuite and shared bathroom types. Rooms may be a little small, but definitely clean and comfy. Encountered two staff (owners?) and one speaks pretty good English. Both are very friendly and approachable. Free parking is available if you're driving, and petrol station is just beside the hotel, albeit not 24 hours.

Well located quaint hotel

This hotel has the most interesting decorations everywhere. We were 3 people visiting and had a very spacious room. The bathroom was a shared setup but was no problem we never had to wait. Easy access to JR rail line and all other activities can be accessed either by walking or city Tram. We could have spent more time in this area as there was so much to do. The staff at the Pension Puppy Tail do speak enough English to manage and are most welcoming and friendly. Rooms are very clean and futons really comfortable with heating pads.
