We stayed 4 nights at Hotel Bonfire for ski trip this month. 

Pros: 
Location. Close to Happo Gondola about 5 mins walk. 
Stuff - friendly and wiling to help.

Cons:
Onsen (Hot spring public bath) only opens from 4:30PM to 8:30PM. It's very rare in Japanese Hotel.

Breakfast is lack of love. Breakfast is a lunch box which heated by microwave.

Room - clean but lack of anything (No tea cups, tooth brush, fridge...). No house keeping during 4 days stays. 

WiFi - very weak at the hotel even the router is just next to my room.

When we arrived, Mr. Lee (Manager) picked us up at the bus station but when we leave the hotel after 4 days stay. We were told that he cannot take us to the bus station and we have to take the taxi to the bus station which is about 5 mins drive from the hotel.

Overall, this is not a hotel I will recommend. If the location is the only concern for your ski trip then this might be the one for you. Considering the price of this hotel, you will have more better choice in this area.

Location is the only advantage

Bonfire hotel is right next to the main Happo One ‘Adam’ gondola - just a 2 minute walk (albeit down the steep driveway) to the lift - so the location is excellent. Ski hire place is right next door. Lots of bars, cafes and restaurants are within a 1-10 minute walk. Shuttle buses to Hakuba 47, Goryu and bus station (for other ski slopes) go from the end of the driveway. 
Hotel staff are friendly and helpful and Lee deserves the positive comments from other reviewers. He’s really helpful and cheerful and we were very grateful for the lifts to and from the bus station. 
We had a Japanese style family room. Futons a bit harder than our usual beds but we all slept really well and the room was spacious (especially as you can clear the mattresses out of the way). 
The hotel’s onsen are fabulous and just perfect for sore legs. Separate areas for men and women. Each had an indoor and an outdoor section. Very clean. 
Our children were huge fans of the (free) massage chairs in the communal area. 
The breakfast is basic but fine. No choice so don’t expect an elaborate buffet style breakfast. 
We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks Lee and team. 

Great location & friendly service

Good location with restaurants around. 
Steep slope to the hotel is a deterrent with ski boots and ski to carry after alighting from shuttle bus; shuttle bus stop is about 10 mins walk from the hotel.
Fairly new hotel facitilies with nice 'onsen' in hotel.
But regular features one expects of hotel are lacking - e.g. electric kettle has to be shared with other rooms, no fridge, you have to ask for cups and teabags, they are not provided in the room.

Good and bad

Bonfire ticked all the boxes for our family of 4 (2 adults, boys 14 & 12). Clean & within walking distance to gondola & many dining options. Lee & his staff were outstanding. They were friendly and bent over backwards to make our stay memorable. Lee provided transportation to & from the station, catered to our dietary needs & helped us make dining & tour reservations. The onsen is clean & a welcome treat after a day on the slopes. Highly recommend Bonfire for your Hakuba stay.

Outstanding stay 

Clean and super efficient staff. This probably has to be the best holidays of my life. Three place is run by a super manager named Lee. Very professional and super host. Easy to talk to get to know more about the place and so much more
