It's a lovely traditional house with a big, clean futon room. The top is the owners, they're very nice. They helped us in every way with advice, etc. They allowed us to go to the public bathroom for showering and relaxing. The Japanese breakfast prepared by the landlady was exceptional. No sin.

How to be at home

It's a very large Japanese-style apartment in a private home, quite a short walk to temple sites, and the train station (Hiraizumi is very small). Very beautiful and clean, but minimal furniture, so you need to be comfortable sitting and sleeping at floor level (cushions, futons). There's private toilet and washing area. The breakfast was delightful, as were the hosts who could not have been more helpful! 
Note that the bathroom is separate from the apartment, you go through hosts' private area to get there. We also eat breakfast in this area. This makes it like a homestay rather than independent apartment.

Beautiful, comfortable, convenient and friendly homestay apartment

This is a much overdue review of an absolutely wonderful stay at Minpaku Hiraizumi with the lovely host Yamada sama. We stayed for two nights in November last year in late Autumn. We had an unusual cold spell and it was raining which turned into snow, when we got into HIraizumi. The host, Yamada sama kept close contact and picked us up at the station. We had two huge classic tatami rooms, it was warm and had a bottle of water, tea sets ready, the fluffy futon beds were laid out in the adjoining room. They only host one guest at a time so the Minpaku is essentially a homestay. Our rooms were in an extended branch of the house, so it was very quiet and private with your own corridor and bathroom. 
You wake up with a healthy assortments of Japanese breakfast with fabulous rice. 
Both Yamada sama are friendly, cheerful, attentive, aware, conscious, but never pushy or over bearing. Just enough respectful distance, soft suggestion for touring or eating out, nice chat over tea and biscuits. They are funny and lively despite for what I would think could be quite stressful and intrusive to have a string of strangers stay in your home. It appears as though they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable but with such light finesse that you just get taken care of. 
They also took us to a fantastic onsen (hotspring) bath. It was heaven.
We also had dinner out with them which was delicious and great fun. 
The last day they took us for a tour and drove us all the way to Ichinoseki, the next town even though they had their next guest coming that day. 

All in all, this was an astonishing experience of genuine hospitality with grace. It was amazing. They were amazing. It was a great way to unwind and relax in the middle of our travel.

Absolutely wonderful

We had a terrific time. The hosts were ever so nice, helpful and very friendly.
Had a great stay, Thank u very much. Fantastic room and lovely bathroom. Every detail of the place was perfect.Breakfast was amazing and the little gift we received was behind our expectations.
The host Yamasa-San took us to ththe sightseeing places and the next morning to the station.

Perfect hosts

What makes this place so wonderful is the kindness of the hosts - it was so nice to stay with them.  They were so helpful and accommodated us very well.  Nothing was too much trouble and they made our stay really memorable.  Easily one of the finest places I've stayed in Japan.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay.  The room is clean and newly decorated and was very comfortable.  You have nice privacy.  Breakfast was delicious - many delicious dishes in the Japanese style, and served with great coffee. The location is excellent if you are visiting Hiraizumi - close to the temples and also the rail station.  I would recommend Minpaku to anyone visiting or who was nearby - it's worth adding to your itinerary and you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful stay - kind hosts, lovely B&B - the best of Japanese hospitality!

Spent 2 nights at this B&B which is really more like a home stay. In Japanese "Minpaku" means home stay.Yamada-san is a wonderful host, very friendly, kind and helpful. Morning breakfast was excellent and complete and when you are done she offers good coffee! She and her husband drove to all of the major sightseeing places and also paid our entrance fee into a large neighbourhood onsen. (The onsen was also great). They also drove us to 2 excellent restaurants for the evening meals. Highly recommended as a place to stay while visiting Hiraizumi.
