This place is a typical Japanese Ryokan. Like most of these places, the spaces are quite small, both the rooms themselves, and the hallways (which generates some complexity when you walk with your suitcases).The owner of the place is an elderly woman, who barely speaks any English, but is very kind and makes an effort to communicate with you, and when you arrive, you draw a map and try to explain to you how to get to the tourist sites.The accommodation includes breakfast, very simple, but is appreciated when you are on a budget.By far, the best thing about this place is that it is very close to the sights in Hiroshima, so you can walk to them without problems.

A good location, close to the city's main attractions...

The hostess was so welcoming, warmly greeting us and ensuring we were comfortable.  The room, a traditional space with futons and tatami floors, was lovely and, while basic, had all that we required.  The property was quiet, but fairly well situated with restaurants and transportation options nearby.  The ryokan was well cared for and clean and we enjoyed our stay.

Comfortable property; friendly, helpful staff

We arrived to the ryokan on a very hot day,
It was a short distance from Hiroshima station on the tram, and about a 5 minutes walk from the tram station.

We were welcomed by a lovely elderly lady, who spoke very little english. I thought it was a nice touch that she had written the guest names arriving that day on a board in the small reception area. 

She then proceeded to check us in, in the kitchen area, we paid before through booking.com. and it was a very easy process. She then proceeded to show us several places on maps of where we could go and visit etc. 

It is worth noting that most of the rooms are at the top of a set of stairs, they are steep and there is nothing you can do to get around this. myself and my husband managed to get the large cases up the siars but this could be a struggle for some people. Overal i dont think the stairs 'ruined' our experience like some people have said on this in the past, and there is plenty of good things that outweigh the stairs in my oppinion.

The first room we entered did not have space for the cases so she very quickly let us in another room with a large storage space for our cases so we didnt ruin the tatami mats with wheels etc.

The room had a window with no view and good air conditioning, tatami mats and a small TV. The decor is a little old, but i liked that it seemed traditional and authentic. 
The toilets are localed a small walk across the hall and a small area with a sink and mirror to freshen up.

The shower room/bath! was downstairs next to the kitchen, I actually love this little room, it had a traditional metal bath, which was so nice, considering we stayed in japan for 6 weeks, this was the only place that had a bath (in house) which i thought was a nice touch. She advised us that we could use it at any time. It is worth noting that this is the only room with a shower/bath in it, so you have to be mindful to other people who might want to use it. saying this, i never had a problem waiting for anyone. 

The kitchen area is only small and unfortunatly there is no place to cook your food (hob) but there is a microwave and hot /cold water/ fridge etc. There is a good size table to share with other guests to eat your dinner/ breakfast etc. 

My favorite part about staying in this ryokan was the lady who runs it. She was so so lovely, when we arrived she came to the room with some ice drinks and then gave us some more drinks one evening and sent us home with a few little gifts at the end of our stay. she was so polite and very very welcomming.

We would stay again as the ryokan is very close to the peace park (which is excellent),There is alot of places to eat/drink nearby and the trams are so easy to use and very regular. There is a late night laundrette too near by and as far as i know you can hire bikes from the ryokan too.

Very authentic stay

Traditional room setup with tatami mat (floor), so don't walk on is with slippers, and futon, which is folding bed mat(tress), with comforter and I think bean pillow, just a little firm/stiff for my neck. The room temperature was adjustable, so it was perfect. Hallway was a little cold, as was walk to and from shower room. There's a helpful information sheet in top hallway showing proper use of bath robe and setting up futon into bed.
Enjoyed the stay very much for the homey feel. A 2nd night I would have used something else for a pillow... But I only stayed the one night. Would recommend to friends to the experience. 
Also some thank you notes and recommendations... So glad I read a note from Barbara with an address and phone number of a recommended restaurant "just around the corner," which sounded lovely to walk very little and not have to decide, other than take the advice, because it was "an authentic Japanese place with Japanese chef and super cooking" (or something like that). So I walked to the address, found a restaurant closed (Sunday approx 1745 or 1800), but had seen another entrance around the corner, so walked to the other entrance and found a deserted place with a chef. Turns out I beat the rush. It was an amazing place! The street is parallel to the one Ryokan is on; exit right out the door of the inn, go 2 blocks to the major street, turn left, go 1 block. At that corner, if you turn slightly left, diagonally left there's a red lantern sign, go down the stairs "basement" entrance on left, like a uturn from the stairs, there are lanterns and a half curtain to a sliding door entrance. Highly recommend. 

Taste of Traditional 

Accessible via 10-15 minutes tram from the train station - original way to discover the city. Welcome by the very nice manager, who explains what to do in town card support. Comfortable room (with floor bed) but little space.

Well-placed - modest and charming hotel

Traditional home,  with shared bathrooms and shower facilities.   Located not far from the Peace Park but difficult to find,  guests that were staying there overheard us asking directions and led us there.  Nearby grocery stores and restaurants,  and close to the tram that takes you to Hiroshima station for 180 Yen.   Inside the doorway,  leave your shoes and wear slippers,  to the left is the business office,  kitchen eye, with bottled water.   After checking in (3 pm), our host pointed out the shared bathtub,  shower room through the curtain directly in front of the front door.   She led us up incredibly steep stairs to the rooms,  tatami mat floors with rolled up futon,  small table with tea cooker, cups, green tea.  There was a small TV above a cupboard,  really no storage.   Some hangers on hooks for clothes.  Further down the hall are 2 toilet rooms,  one for men,  one for women and and 2 sink stalls with hair dryer,  soap, towels.   Your host will give you a robe and towels for the bath, don't forget to take with you.   Plenty of shampoo,  conditioner and soap in shower room.   Breakfast is not included,  and the credit card only held your reservations,  you will need to pay in cash when you get there.  
The halls are lined with pictures of past guests which your host will take as you leave and print out a copy for you to keep.   

Delight,  great hostess 

The rooms are small, the kitchen is even bigger but the tenant is so friendly and the location is quite convenient that it's an address to remember! We went there in 2006 and we went there this summer as a family.

A family ryokan

Typical house, with very steep staircase.... the rooms are very small with a common toilet and a sdb. once the futon is defeated, there is not much room left. We have a bit of an impression of Youth Hostel. No food, no pts.

Little, little, everything is mini in this house

We stayed at this place for we couldn't find anything else for this price in Hiroshima at the time. It's very small and basic. We had a room with our 1 year Old baby but the room actually wasn't big enough for the cot so the cot had to stand on one of our floor matrasses. We only fit in when we put our luggage in the closet. Room smelled a bit.
For us this was fine since we were only here for two nights. If you're planning a langer stay I wouldn't recommend this place. 
For short stay it's fine. Close to everything you want to see and a very friendly host (who doesn't speak English). 
Also we wouldn't recommend this place with a baby for the common room is very small and that's were you'll be when your babies asleep. The host would help me with cleaning my bottle etc but it wasn't possible to prepare food. For families it might be better to look for a room with a small kitchen.
So I guess it's a bit expensive given all these facts but still we were happy that we could visit Hiroshima in a place we could afford. 

Basic Ryokan

The place, like accommodation, is fair, as long as you don't go backpacking and get something fast and overnight, it's fair enough and of little comfort, as you sleep in a futon and the room is very small and you share both the bathroom and the shower (which is quite narrow and is on the ground floor).
