We stayed at the Hitoyoshi Ryokan for 2 nights. It was absolutely wonderful! I am so happy we stayed there! We all really enjoyed it. We appreciate their attention to detail and thoughtfulness. The ryokan and the rooms were beautiful. We loved the history there too. We enjoyed the traditional meals and the onsen. The staff were so kind! All of it was amazing!

We stayed only for one night, that was a big mistake! The Ryokan has wonderful classical elements, we had a gorgeous view onto the river from our spacious rooms, it is conveniently located and the service we got was outstanding nice. I deeply recommend

What a Gem!

A Japanese traditional very beautiful building is a Japanese-style hotel.
 You experience Japanese tradition at Hitoyoshi. Yukata, tea ceremony (powdered green tea), shrine and Japanese card. high school students will guide you.

This is a very old traditional Japanese inn - a ryokan.
We stayed here two nights on a cycling trip though Kyushu and thoroughly enjoyed this slice of traditional Japanese culture.
Our room was large and comfortable, the baths were amazing and the lively dining room served wonderful authentic Japanese food.
The staff were friendly and very helpful, while maintaining the ryokan traditions (watch where you wear your shoes!) and the hostess of this establishment was so welcoming and interesting to talk to.
No visit to Japan is complete without sampling their culture in this way.

Fabulous traditional Japanese experience

We stayed for one night in Hitoyoshi Ryokan on a driving tour of Kyushu. We were not disappointed.
The Ryokan is located just next to the river running through town and our room had a lovely view overlooking the water and nearby bridge. We had a huge Japanese style room between the two of us, which had all of the free accompaniments we've come to expect from hotel rooms in Japan, plus some pretty ornaments dotted around the room, making you feel as though you were in someone's house. The wifi and air conditioning also both worked very well in the room.
We had our own toilet but no shower therefore used the private shower/baths that are communal. Although there are only two of these I didn't have a problem finding a time when they weren't free. The public toilets looked a little decrepit, but as we had a personal one thankfully we didn't have to use these.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to use the public Onsen, so can't comment on those.
The receptionist was lovely and provided information on where to find food shops and a restaurant in town - all located a very short walk away.
We didn't eat in the Ryokan as we wanted to try a restaurant in town to have the grilled eel, but based on other reviews and our experience I'm sure the food here would be nice.
Overall a great place to stay.


Excellent Ryokan

We came from Kumamoto by train to Hitoyoshi. When we arrived it was a little bit difficult to find the Ryokan, but it is just a five minutes walk from the station. The rooms are large and in a nice japanese style. Do not expect too much from the onsen there. The ryokan has no rotenburo (outside) bath, but it is functional and they offer private baths for families and couples. When it not occupied you can use it without reservation. We enjoyed it and had a wonderful Kaiseki dinner afterwards. The atmosphere for dinner is not as private as in other ryokans we visited, because there is just a dining room with a special kind of atmosphere but it was ok. The traditional japanese dinner and the breakfast was very good. It is a good place to stay a night, if you want to get deeper into the south of Kyushu like we did. The wifi is a little bit...lets say.. traditional too
