女性のスッタフ(オーナーの彼女かな)が性格悪い。目を合わせてくれないし、ゲストと話す気が無さそう。暗い接客で、仕方なくやってるって感じ。
汚い。枕が臭い。ルームの清掃が治中途半端。
壁が薄い。昭和時代の木造で足音が非常にうるさい。しっかりしてるゲストハウスが沢山あるからここを避けてください。

Do not stay here. The girl in charge is not friendly. She is the owner’s girlfriend and lives there. She clearly does not enjoy interacting with guests and meeting her was not pleasant. It seems like she just likes to live there and does not feel any responsibly to be a pleasant host. The housekeeping is terrible. The place is old and dirty. The sheets and pillow smelled bad. The building is old which means that footsteps are loud. The place is dirt cheap which attracts very dirty people. The pictures on the website are not what the place really looks like. There are endless guest houses in the area where the staff is friendly and attentive to guests. Avoid this one.

Super nice owner with awesome rooftop. He is very helpful and is also providing diving courses, which is such a nice combo! 
Sometime BBQ on the rooftoo with other guests and e joy together the awesome weather!
Location is also perfect, if you're interested in taking the ferries...

Awesome

From the minute I checked in I knew I would like this place. The staff was friendly and helpful. They hooked me up with a dive company, Nova Dive, that was reasonably priced and professional and gave me a nice little room. There was a small shared kitchen and cozy tv room, bathrooms were clean and I never had to wait during the 4 nights I stayed.
And check out Lala, the hotel dog - she is sooo cute

This is very centrally located

This hostel is ok. Don’t expect the same standard as mainland Japanese hostels, although they do have a hairdryer and free shampoo/body wash. 
There was a weird smell of death in our room, I looked out the window and under the mattress but couldn’t find the source. Smelled like a small dead animal. 
The bathroom upstairs smelled like vomit and we discovered it was because someone once had vomited into the cistern of the toilet and hadn’t cleaned it up (orange stains). 

Pros: Free shampoo/body wash, hairdryer, free bike rental (although the bikes are in poor condition), central location, cute dog, cheap laundry facilities (100 yen per wash), hand towels are changed everyday so they are nice and fresh. Nice with rooftop access. People are very social here.

Cons: Odd smells of death and vomit, nasty upstairs bathroom, no free coffee or tea, very thin mattresses and tiny rooms, thin walls - we could hear every sound from the other rooms. People are very social here.

What can I say, this is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in terms of staff, guest interaction, and atmosphere!

The owner, Nao, is a cool dude who used to be a backpacker himself and lived outside Japan. He speaks fluent English, and was therefore a tremendous help for me. Among other things, he helped me book a rental car, day tour and guesthouse on another island.

The lounge on the 3rd floor always seems to have people hanging out. Most evenings, there will be a bottle or 2 or 5 of awamori. Sometimes singing may or may not be involved. The vibe is great; everyone was very engaging. It felt like the opposite of my limited expeirence on mainland Japan; Japanese speaking guests here were all eager to start conversations even when they don't speak a lot of English... I never had to break the ice here!

The actual facilities themselves don't stand out, but they have everything you need and the place is kept clean. There are kitchens, showers, toilets on both floors. 

In the summer, I was told the rooftop patio would frequently have BBQs. We only had one drinking party up there, on a rare rainy-season night when it wasn't actually raining. 

I stayed in the male dorm. It's a bit barebones compared to many other Japanese hostels with the capsule-style beds. This one is just ordinary bunks, but they do have privacy curtains. Wifi is also spotty in the room - best to sit in the lounge for that.  

Don't forget Lala, the cute resident shiba dog! And if you're lucky, the Ishigaki Brad Pitt will make an appearance! (Nao told me not to mention this so as to not raise potnetial guest expectations too high, haha, but too good to not mention)

Emix is not bad at all. It’s not great either. 
But it certainly is value for money. It’s located in the city center near the port, restaurants, shops and the entertainment district. 
I stayed 4 nights at a private room which wasn’t 100 percent private due to the very thin walls and the sound of my neighbor snoring.
If I ever come back to Ishigaki I would stay there again. 


Great location 

Stayed five nights here in three rooms with two teenagers and an 11 year old. The email conversation with the owner was fine - not perfect so wasn't sure what we were letting ourselves in for when we pitched up by number 4 bus from airport - is only 5 mins from bus terminal and all bus destinations translated to English. But Ishigaki City is small - soon my 17 year old was off wandering on his own and we were out experiencing shaved ice for the first time.
The hostel is above shops in the covered market which was very convenient. We were on the third floor (ground=1st floor here) with a small kitchen, plates, fridges and freezers. The three rooms were small but the Aircon worked in them, and there is a curfew at 11 so the fact you could hear talking on the sofa/social area didn't matter if you kept regular hours. You were free to move around as you wished - free bike hire (three)good enough for cycling around the city but not for going further afield.
We got a bus timetable from the ferry - though one in hostel- and managed to get to many places on the island from here. No walkable beach from Ishigaki City, however food is here. Further afield, restaurants but very few shops so may wish to be inclusive at a hotel if you can afford it.
We had a cyclone come close while there - they are common. Everything shut including the beaches and we were very glad to be in the city to watch it.
There is a washing machine and pegs on the roof. Dry clothes got re-wetted by the pre-cyclone rains so had to dry in room.
Our planned snorkel trip was cancelled due to cyclone but instead we had a great social night with all other guests, everyone cooking or providing something and sharing at the instigation of Nao, the owner who produced a vast vat of Okinawan noodles. 
Overall a super stay - cost us £60/night for all four of us spread over the three rooms which is a bargain.
