Traditional Onsen Ryokan Izu Yugashima Shirakabe

Amazing ryokan! Delicious food and immaculate service. We were so sad to leave. Everyone at Shirakabe made us feel so special. It looks better in person than in photos! The onsen are perfect and the products smell fabulous. 

Lovely ryokan, worth visiting!!

Lovely ryokan. The building is very nice - traditional Japanese style with a nice garden and great outside baths. The room was great with a river view and 
the food good. Also we were travelling with a young baby and they were very accommodating. Thanks!

Very good

Firstly, to get here we had to catch a public bus 650m from the ryokan which we then had to walk on roads up hills with our baggage. This didn't bother us so much as we were so excited to visit the ryokan. However, considering that we paid $400AUD for one night, you would at least expect private transportation from the bus stop.

When we arrived, there was no greeting and i had to call out twice for some assistance. We found this very strange as we were expecting 5 star service. 

If you can't speak Japanese, you will have a hard time communicating with anyone here. When we were shown to our room, the lady guiding us through the ryokan was absolutely clueless with where our room was and tried guiding us using a map... This was a long process and i was beginning to lose patience. Finally, we were taken to our room but with no private onsen that we had booked prior to our trip. The lady seemed very confused when i explained this and she began searching for the onsen through random closet doors and windows. Clearly there was no onsen. After that was sorted, we decided to explore Izu and go to Joren falls. 

When we returned we found random luggage in our room. Not very professional.  

We proceeded onto the onsens. I must say that the outdoor onsens here are incredible. I suggest if you visit the area to check out the onsens here. The food was great but food anywhere in Japan is amazing so I wouldn't say the food here was the highlight of my stay. 

During my sleep here i was woken up by my first asthma attack. Our room was very dusty so i was kept awake and could barely sleep. I was beginning to get very frustrated with this place. 
 
After check out, we waited a while for our luggage to be brought to us and i had to remind them twice to bring our luggage and we almost missed our bus. 

Not worth it.

Not worth the money

This was a wonderful ryokan with three onsen and food prepared with fresh wasabi from the local area.  The food was extraordinary and dinner was something I'll always remember.  There is no English here and bring your own wifi if you want to use the google translate!  But the staff was very welcoming and the it was clean with large rooms and lovely gardens.  Again it's about the food though so go hungry.

Ryokan Shirakabeso offers a very authentic and (in a way) luxurious Japanese experience. The ryokan is a bit "off the beaten track" - located in a very quiet and green area, but actually quite easy to reach by public transport. The very friendly staff knows just enough English to get around. Make sure to go half-board: Japanese dinner and breakfast are excellent. Shirakabeso has it's own two onsen, which are small but very pretty, especially the unearthed huge rock! Rooms are big, feature Japanese style tatami mats, a cozy tea room, and nice little bathroom with (hot) water from the same onsen. Shirakabeso is great value for money!

Very authentic Japan ryokan

The staff are very friendly and you can feel they are doing their best to make your stay joyful. The hotel itself is with history but also very well maintained. The room is with plenty of space and very clean, with modern toilet and bathroom. The hotel is famous of its "Giant Stone" and "Giant Wood" hot spring. This is a great place to experience traditional Japanese style hotel.

We came for 3 noghts to unwind ourselves befor coming back to tokyo and it was a wonderful experience.  Most of the guests are japanese,  which was nice after being in kyoto,  a very touristic city where every shrine has a long line of waiting.  Amazing staff- super nice and will go out of their way to keep you comfortable and satisfied,  even without knowing any english.  
The food is unbelievably delicious and gives u a taste of real japanese cuisine,  served in various ways with fresh and local ingredients (wasabi in different shapes and forms,  became our favorite). 
The baths are relaxing and beautiful,  and the atmosphere is historic and serene.
