The hostel is located just between the station and the market.
We took the family room that was super clean and fun to stay in.
The staff was super helpful, we did our laundry in the hostel and any question we had we got answers and recommendations.
Just important to know that the stairs to the room are narrow and bit hard to climb with heavy suitcase, but the staff is willing to help.
Overall great place to stay in! 

Great hostel! Clean and fun to stay in. 

A wonderful stay at Nagonde, so impressed with the service! 
The hostel may not be big or super fancy - but it’s clean, well organised, with comfy beds and showers, and an intimate feel which made it easier to meet others. 

And oh, the staff were not only helpful, friendly and kind, but went above and beyond their duties. They brought my heavy luggage upstairs (thank you again Kanji!), gave me really good tips for food (try the local Oden hotpot at Akadama!), they directed me to a professionally manned, cheap coin launderette 2 minutes away (and it didn't shrink my clothes!).
The owner even made me a coffee in the morning, and she offered me and other guests some pastries. Free rice crackers always available on the table, which is where most guests gather to chat anyway. 
Most of all, all 3 staff spent nearly 2 hours helping me find a last minute emergency hostel in Tokyo. Truly beyond their duty... I was totally blown away! :) 
The Nagonde hostel is walking distance from the station and the Omi-Chi fish market, and only 2 min from the JR bus (free if you have a JR pass!) to all main sightseeing points. Recommend!!

Totally recommend it!

The property is an easy 5 minute walk to Kanazawa Station. We booked the three person room for me and my two kids (ages 8 & 10) for one night. The room was a traditional tatami mat room with futon mattresses and was located on the ground floor next to the shared bathrooms and showers. So even though it was not en suite, the facilities were right outside the room door. All the facilities were spotless, shower water pressure was excellent.  

There is a communal kitchen and living space on the ground floor as well. Although the accommodations were great, the highlight of our stay at Nagonde was the warm hospitality of the family that runs the guesthouse. Both me and my children felt at home immediately and our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.

Excellent experience. A budget gem. Wonderful hospitality!

I stayed there only 1 night, but I was impressed by the hospitable and friendly of all staffs. They gave me many helpful advices to travel around. They also gave me some small souvenirs (matcha cakes, a cute rabbit hook and a beautiful postcard as a farewell gift). There is only one notes that if you follow the google map, when you arrive to the location, look carefully to the left, because the front of the hostel is at the alley across the main street, not in the main street. That means you could easily pass by the hostel and fool around like me:))

Be careful of getting lost

The location of this guesthouse was perfect. Very close to the station and in walking distance to transportations to main attractions. We (myself, my wife and son) stayed there for 3 nights. Our room was of a very good size and very comfortable. Loved the shower with strong water permitting a revigorating bath. 
On the day we arrived we were suprised with a "custom" where we ate cooked noodles served in a special way: water was flushing in bamboo canes where the noodles were put in and we "caught" it with our chopsticks to eat. It was then accompanied with soya sauce, fried chicken strips and a kind of an omelette! Fantastic and so original.
The way we were treated was always with great kindness: always willing to help and giving us directions and tips. We also profited to do some laundry which was very good. We just have good things to say and would go back any time. Highly recommend this guesthouse.

An accommodation close to perfection!

we stayed here only for one night in 3 bedroom located in 1st fl and next to the front door.  location was perfect, just 5 more minutes from train station. Close to the fish market where you can find any kind of fresh food. The host was really friendly, he allowed us to check in before the time and suggested us to do day trip exploring Kanazawa. he even gave us the city maps and gave clear direction to 3 must visit places. We got the share bathroom and it's so clean. they provide books, snacks and free tea-coffee and other meals to eat. Definitely will go back to this place someday.

perfect little guesthouse

Perfect location, 5 minutes walk from the station, 5 minutes walk to the fantastic fish market offering the freshest food at very good prices...and maybe 15 minutes walk to one of the most beautiful gardens in Japan and the old Samurai district.  Incredibly friendly people...when our daughter got a slight fever, the lady of the house went straight out (without asking) to buy fresh fruit, yoghurt & water.  We (3 of us) had a Japanese-style room with tatami mats, and slept like logs.

Can't fault it really

I have spent the last two nights at Guesthouse Nagonde, with my husband and our two young children (six years old and four years old). We stayed in the upstairs family room during our stay (with its own shower and toilet, and its own kitchenette with fridge). 

This was honestly the best place that we have stayed in our three weeks in Japan (staying at seven different accommodation venues).  We have travelled throughout many countries, and I can honestly say that I don't recall ever receiving such warm hospitality. 

Heaps of positives:

- exceptionally friendly and helpful owners, all of whom were especially friendly to our two kiddies, and spoke great English. They were also at the ready to provide maps and travel advice, and also offered us an umbrella in case it rained. They were extremely attentive whenever they saw us.

- a really warm, friendly and welcoming neighbourhood ... lots of the locals in the neighbourhood actually greeted us and said a few words, something with hasn't happened anywhere else that we have stayed in Japan. We also had a neighbour of the Guesthouse show us to the door of the Guesthouse when they saw us lugging our suitcases up the street! 

- really close to the train station, the market (great for buying fresh fruit of when you are out and about) and the castle / gardens. A perfect location. Lots of restaurants and shops close by too.

- an incredibly clean and new Guesthouse. Everything is in immaculate condition. We absolutely loved our room, and it had everything that we needed ... including a heating / air conditioning unit! 

- communal kitchen which is great for meeting fellow travellers.

- washing machine in the communal area! 

We absolutely loved Kanazawa - such a clean, friendly, beautiful and cosmopolitan town, with a really sincere and welcoming vibe. We only stayed for two nights, and wished that we could have stayed for a third. There is so much to explore in the area, especially during the Cherry Blossom period.  An amazing town, and Guesthouse Nagonde is a superb location in which to stay during a visit to the town.
