A fantastic and affordable place to stay in Tokyo. It's in a quiet residential neighborhood, has an onsen, convenience stores, etc nearby. Mieko-san was very responsive via email, and booking directly with her was a breeze. I was welcomed by her employee Lisa who was also very welcoming and knowledgeable about the hostel and the area.

The hostel is small but cozy and didn't feel cramped despite many people staying there. Everyone was friendly and considerate with each other. It felt like living in a small home full of several visiting cousins lol

There is only one shower and two bathrooms so you'd have to really plan around using them. There's also free brunch!

The homey vibe here is unmatched and you will feel very taken care of. JGH is a great place to call home in a new city full of strangers. Will stay there again for sure!

Feels like home

each time I’m backpacking through the Tokyo area I make sure to stay here for a few nights, it’s a real at home Environment and you never know who’s going to be there from what country it’s an adventure each time there’s multiple floors and many beds but it’s quite spacious and Tucktaway in a in a neighborhood Surrounded by family homes the bathhouse is not far away nor is the post office or the train station there’s plenty of food stops around Within a five minute walk there are no more than 3-24 hour convenience stores, it’s very quiet, and the owner very friendly and makes it a point to make sure that your comfortable while there. I definitely recommend it if you’re on a budget and looking for very clean place to stay.

Amazing hostel

I think JGH Tokyo is the best cheap hostel in Tokyo. The location is near Kawaguchi JR Station, you can walk around 15 minutes to the north, through the park. If you bring a large luggage, I think is hard but the way to the hostel is smooth.

Best Price Hostel in Tokyo

The hostel is situated about a 15 minute walk from Kawaguchi station and the station itself is only a few stops away from the main areas like Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Ikkebukuro. The amenities were very clean and the host Mieko was extremely helpful. She even offered to give me the hostel's umbrella when it was raining as I was leaving on my last day at JGH! Absolutely value for money!

Good location, value for money, and very helpful host

It's quite far from main attractions as well as the train station (20 minutes walk), but great if you want to enjoy a peaceful, longer stay away from the mad hustle and bustle of Tokyo (it can be a tad bit expensive if you go to Tokyo everyday).

Meiko-San the owner is very lovely and if it was not for her I'm not sure this place would continue to attract the visitors it does. I stayed in a 12 bedroom dorm which were basically  mattresses lined up together on a shelf, the room smelt horrendous & the bathroom & kitchen were quite small. HOWEVER, the hostel is in a quaint part of Tokyo and walking to & from the guesthouse to the train station provides you with an opportunity to catch a glimpse of everyday Tokyo for the people who live there. It's in a seemingly safe neighborhood & I had no worries walking home from the train station very late at night. Plus, really the guesthouse is good value for money in Tokyo. A good option for one or two nights for someone on a budget & willing to see a different side of Tokyo.
