We was stay 3 days in Wasuki Tsukasakan, the location of hotel is very good which very near the train station. The equipment and environment is quite clean and designed with Japanese style. Cleaner clean our room deeply and I admired their proactive services. The bathing place is also very good. I would like to say big thanks to female staff (I forget the name, the one who wear suit) who is very polite and patient to listen the customer request and inquiry. I would also want to say big thanks to men staff (I don't know the name, the one who wear suit and work in night shift), he helped us to locate the microwave proactively and I was surprised his working style which I was admired. 

Strongly suggest this hotel and we must come again when we go Kumamoto next time!

Very nice staff!

Located downtown very close to the castle. Parking is available in nearby parking buildings with charges paid to the hotel via a voucher system. 
Lobby is on the 3rd floor with lift access. Room clean, compact and well maintained. Room includes a tatami area and a futon bed. Fridge, kettle and wifi are included in the room. Compact bathroom comprises a bath-shower, basin and Japanese toilet. An array of in-room accessories are available in the lobby. Staff professional and helpful. 
Front office staff speak some English, with translation apps available when needed. Breakfast is a mix of Western and traditional Japanese in a 2nd floor dining room. The hotel has a traditional communal hot spa bath on the 6th floor. Yukata and slippers for moving to and from the bath are available in the lobby. 
Wasuka is a good option for the those looking for a Japanese experience but with some Western components.

A nice experience

This place is very centrally located and good value, but its real appeal lies in the big  Japanese style rooms and the onsen facility., The rooms are surprisingly large and atmospheric, with old Meiji-period furniture.  The beds are satisfactory.  The bathrooms are surprisingly primitive, just a plastic shower with a soap dispenser on the wall, but that is because  the hotel provides an onsen (separate for  men and women) with much better washing facilities.    A good breakfast is served in a civilised dining room. Not much English is spoken, but the staff are obliging and helpful. 
But this hotel is all about atmosphere.  Wooden ceilings.  Hardwood floors.  Tatami mats. The author Natsume Soseki lived in Kumamoto, and  sitting at one of the low tables in your room, surrounded by old wooden furniture and paper screens,  you will feel as if you were in one of his novels. 
Downside, an irritating 10 am checkout (particularly when checkin is 3 pm) but overall this is an excellent place to stay in Kumamoto.

Attractive, spacious Japanese style rooms in a well-run hotel

The staff is so friendly and helpful. The rooms are so cute we had a Japanese style room. which was so fun. It is so close to the Kumomoto Castle You can walk. There is a shopping area and a 7-11 right next store. We are planning to go back in 2018 and we will be staying here again.

1. Hot spring room is not traditional but very clean and comfort. Women Hot spring has been locked by password, so safety
2. The parking is a problem if your car is higher than 1600mm. I need to drive around 300m away 24hrs parking（around 1200yen per night, depends on your parking time)
3. The Japanese style room quite small even I book 5 persons in one room. I wonder we are late check-in so we have no choice.

Anyway, hotel is so nice for shopping and clean


Clean but not perfect location for driving

I was so disappointed with Wasuki. It looked beautiful online but we ended up in a smelly room (cigrrette smoke in a non smoking room) a dirty bathroom with grim I had to wipe off, a moldy shower and dirty faucet handles. Staff did not always notice us and usually did not greet us or say goodbye. Oh, and a nasty looking red splotchy stain in the sheet.
