I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Grandpapa. Good spacious rooms, I really like the lounge which adds a great social gathering place (and massage chair). A reasonable price for an expensive resort.  It was a bit of a walk to the lift but a regular shuttle bus goes from the end of the road (longest wait 5 mins).

A great stay in Hirafu

We stayed from 4 to 12 February 2020 at Grandpa Lodge, check in at midnight our key was waiting for us in the lobby as planned, perfection, positive point of the hostel: proximity to the mountain, mountain shuttle service is 4 minutes walk from the hostel, very clean, 10 minutes walk from all services (restaurant, store and grocery store). Hostel price is more than acceptable for the area and run by a Japanese family which is a rarity in Niseko. Negative point: insufficiencies of insulation and even the fact that heating (too hot or too cold air passes through the windows) we had a 3 bed effect we really had no space for our staff to prepare (like a small hostel) but we asked for a very small budget, so if your hotel is very close to the hotel, I recommend that you over-compensate for a very small amount of comfort, and if your hotel is very close to the hotel, I would recommend that you have a very small budget, but if your hotel is not close to the hotel, the hotel is very convenient.

Very well located

Grandpapa is the real deal Japanese ski lodge! The hotel (lodge) is currently run Kohei-san, who grew up in Niseko and is a former pro skier. He's incredible kind, very knowledgeable and super helpful - but also super busy during the winter months. 

Location: the location of Grandpapa couldn't be better. It's a short walk to some of the best restaurants and bars in Niseko (like Fridge Bar!), and just a few minutes walk to a bus stop that comes frequently and drops you at the gondola. Really, the location is about as good as you can get in Niseko, unless you are ski in, ski out. 

Vibe: the vibe is super chill! I normally stay at international luxury hotel chains, but Grandpapa was a welcomed change to this blandness. Every evening the staff lights a fire in the "living room" area, filling it with that fire place smell that makes any ski trip that much better. The living room has darts and board games. My friend and I cracked a bottle of wine and played Jenga. It was amazing. 

Food: the breakfast at Grandpapa is a cool experience. Your room is assigned to a table, and breakfast starts at 8am every morning. It's fun to meet the other guests and chat about mountain conditions, etc. It's like the whole house is getting ready to go shred the mountain together. The breakfast dish changes daily. It was always fairly good, filling me up before hitting the slopes. 

Rooms: Rooms are basic but cosy. When I was in the room, I enjoyed watching the snow fall from the window. It's worth noting that the walls are quite thin, and you can hear your neighbors pretty easily, but not the end of the world. 

Overall: my most recent trip to Niseko was incredible, and I credit the location and the relaxed vibe of Grandpapa for making it so good.

The REAL Japanese Ski Lodge Experience!

Right in the heart of Hirafu Village Grand Papa is the perfect place to stay.  We stayed in the triple share apartment over the road which was sensational.  There are plenty of restaurants close by and the onsen is just around the corner.

Perfect location and friendly service

We stayed there 9 nights with a family of 5 in 1 room with a loft. The place mostly uses communal bathrooms and shower with the latter being in Japanese Onsen style. We most enjoyed our breakfast with amazing changing dishes every day for a week and always with cereal and yoghurt with fresh fruits. Of course with coffee/tea/orange/apple juice as well. Also have 1 large communal room where you can read, play darts, sit in a very good massage chair and play fuss ball. You can always buy your own food and eat this in their restaurant in the evening and use a communal fridge for anything.
Easy to reach slopes by bus and going to village you can also walk.

Friendly lodge with 5-star breakfast

I’ve stayed at the Grandpapa three separate times and have had a very positive experience each time. The staff is always accommodating and friendly. The manager Kohei is always responsive and has provided me a complimentary ride from the Hirafu visitors center. The rooms are cozy and most have nice views of Mt. Yotei. The free shuttle bus stop to Grand Hirafu and Hanazono is located at the end of the street. 
Each morning a nice, western style breakfast is offered. 
There is a very nice, affordable onsen located around the corner. It’s only 600 Yen for a very relaxing way to end the day. 
There are many restaurants, shops, bars, etc. about 10 minutes walk in the village.

I would highly recommend the Grandpapa and I will be staying here again I am sure.

Great place for Ski holiday

nice and cosy and affordable place to stay, all the staff are super friendly and helpful. breakfast is small and light. bathroom is very small, location is ok need to walk 5 mins to the bus shuttle stop or 15 mins walk to the main city and restaurant areas.

Stayed for 8 nights for a skiing trip with 3 friends - very friendly and easy to deal with from booking to checking out. Village shuttle bus stop nearby, as well as lots of restaurants and bars. Would stay again.

Friendly atmosphere and well priced

We were here between December and January, the atmosphere is really beautiful, there are 2 relaxing rooms with a massage chair and sofas for all guests where you can have a beer in peace. The managers are Japanese and they are really nice people and are available for anything, the guest house is 2 minutes walk from the first runways if not 15 meters there is a free shuttle that takes you to the cabin, it is in the center of niseko 2 steps for everyone (spa, baths, locals). Prices are really competitive, since breakfast is provided.
