This hostel is very unique, situated in a series of old Japanese houses. Our room was in the attic and was very atmospheric, we found it to be quite large and comfortable. We also really appreciated the kotatsu in the common area! It was about a 15 minute walk to the station and we found that there were bus stops very close by. Unfortunately, we did find that our room was quite bright as there were no blinds on our windows. This bothered my travelling companion and made it hard for her to sleep. We also found that having an outside toilet when we were visiting in winter made late night bathroom trips very unpleasant. Overall though this didn’t spoil our experience.

Unique and interesting 

I love everything about this hostel. The interior, ambiance, the smell, the lovely staffs, this kinda remind me of home. This hostel is actually a hundred year old house, so expect the interior to be all traditional, with futons and sliding doors, wooden floor and low tables. If you want to experience japan in the traditional way with affordable price, you should definitely book a room in this hostel.

This might be old but it is well maintained. One of the things I like is the cleanliness. Everything is very tidy. They also have a small kitchenet on the first floor where you can have meals. A small traditional garden just outside the kitchen. Just remember to be mindful and keep as quiet as possible when coming in and out of the hotel, so you won’t bother other guests. They are very strict with the noise, since this is an old house, the walls are not sound proof. Well who doesn’t want peace and quiet. 

Another thing I like about this hotel is that its very accessible. There are bus stations just 5min away, kyoto station is just 15min away. Ministop and 7/11, and Kyoto aquarium are all walking distance. You can also ask to rent a bike instead of commuting. The alley just outside the hostel is very beautiful, we actually walked towards kyoto station on the first day so we can explore the surroundings more. 

The staffs are super friendly and helpful, they will provide you a map and help you with the directions and attractions where you can visit.

All in all it was a wonderful experience, we will definitely stay here again when we go to kyoto soon! 

Feels like home

I was going to be late for the 9PM check-in time after 11 hours of train-hopping from Tokyo, so I phoned ahead and the staff was able to provide instructions and a map for how to enter when I arrived, and I paid for my room the next morning when checking out!

Accommodating and helpful

The hostel is located behind the main road so it's fairly quiet. Friendly staff , nice surroundings, Japanese style rooms.The facilities were always very clean (bathrooms, toilets, dormitory and kitchen). There was free the, coffee and water in the kitchen.

A nice place to stay

HARUYA has provided complete facilities that you could ever use. Service is great: they can suggest you many different needs (sight-seeing, dinning...). However, the guest rooms seem to be to many, so the shower rooms are not enough to be used while full loaded.
