This was my first experience in a youth hostel. I enjoyed the exemplary cleanliness, the availability of staff, the dishes at the restaurant (very good), the very clean collective bathroom and nickel bathrooms, the washing machine available, the small pool with fish, free postcards with everything you need to customize them, the proximity of the bus... I disliked some guests who allow themselves to sleep together in the dormitory and a petoman Australian.

Quality-price ratio

Very clean and modern common facilities. Very diligent staff. Well situated with a supermarket and restaurants around. The hostel can even make you dinner or breakfast at a very reasonable price. The common room is nice. The private bathroom is cool. The bottom pool with carp adds charm. I was reluctant about the youth hostels. Thanks to the Machiya this is no longer the case.

Excellent youth hostel

This hostel is quite cute, built in a traditional Japanese house.
The stuff is very nice and there is a nice common area by the entrance were you can chill and meet other travelers. The place was clean and the beds are comfortable.
It is close to many bus stations so it's easy to reach.

Nice hostel in tradition house

we took the double room as we wanted to the traditional JApanese room with sliding room and bamboo mattress n bed. and we just got that and much more as they have a beautiful small garden with fish pond and the price is also very reasonable... 
they also allow you to keep ur bags there after checkout in case u still hv some plans in the city after checkout( which most of the places accomodate)
Also common area is very cozy and has games, magazines, tv and hot coffe. we took the breakfast as well and it was quite decent.

loved the traditional feel

It provides everything you need including the great feeling of being in a traditional place and shared spaces where to crash at the end of the day and meet people and have a free drink or even miso soup. They also prepare food and have drinks, a beautiful to look at mini garden with pond and absolutely helpful and kind staff.

Perfect for travellers

The staff were friendly and the facilities were beautifully traditional. The common area is very cosy and the foods and drinks were also good. The lady's dorm was a bit cramped due to the room being small. Otherwise it was a pleasant experience

A good tradiotional experience

My wife and I stayed in a private room which was very spacious for a hostel on surprisingly comfortable futon beds. All the facilities were very clean, the staff were always willing to help, and provided more than enough information about everything to do in Kyoto including how to get there and back! The only downside is that the hostel has low ceilings due to it residing in a traditional Japanese building, which is no good for taller people. However, the mini bar and food service that the staff provide, along with the lovely facilities, and single bus ride to Kyoto station puts Hotel Wasabi very high on my recommendations list.

Extremely pleasant and comfortable!!

We stayed 4 nights. As soon as we arrived the school was warm, the person in charge of welcoming us took the time to talk to us and explain to us with a map what to see in Kyoto at our request. The place is extremely clean and yet I am hyper looking at it but there really is nothing to blame! Very kind and forward-looking staff, cozy and comfortable place, I enjoyed taking a good bath after long days of walking in Kyoto. People come from all over the world and for those of you who love this place is perfect. If you are looking for a place during your stay in Kyoto I highly recommend this one!

Very good.

We stayed at the Wasabi Hostel last fall and were very excited about the Japanese room for two people. The location alone is super, close to a bus stop, supermarket, 24/7 Lawson. Unfortunately, we only stayed two nights at the hotel because a typhoon was coming to Kyoto. But we liked it so much that we will stay there again for one week this year. I'm really looking forward to the next stay.

Lovely accommodation

It's a very nice place to spend a few nights in Kyoto and is close to some very good ones suitable for tourists.
