Great staff, service and food!! 

Staff- great service staff everyday with a relaxed Aussie vibe all round. Deepest gratitude to Rina - who always had a ready smile, helped with bookings, transport and all-round great hospitality attitude. Shout out to Tom and Ricky too!!

Location- superb location just right opposite Kanko gondola station, 50 paces and one is on way up to the red slopes.

Food - the in-house restaurant quality is ridiculously good. Seared Tuna, beef harami, grilled cod. Inexpensive too, for its quality. Thank you chef!!

Unforgettable experience, thanks to the staff, service and amazing food!!

The service was excellent. The food here is outstanding. Compliments to the chef. There was no need to eat out as this place is all you could ever want. 

The hotel is located just across from  akakura Kanko gondola. 

Whilst the ski resorts are fairly small, you avoid the crowds like in Niseko and have a more authentic Japanese experience. 

We definitely will come back again.

Great hotel with fantastic food

The ambiance in this remote ski village restaurant inside the Hotel Silverhorn is superb! I highly recommend this restaurant. 

The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. The chef impressively makes everything from scratch including the broth, bread and even the yeast!

Even the kids meal was a lovely lasagne with a side of sweet roasted vegetables.

The restaurant primarily hosts it's hotel guests for dinners but if the guests opt to eat out, this opens seating availability. So be sure to book ahead.

Detail orientated delicious food

What made our stay at Akakura Onsen so memorable was the attention, service and guidance of all the staff at Silverhorn. Even before our arrival, Rina helped us with restaurant reservations, which was much appreciated as some of the smaller traditional places like Sennin, Asagao and Udon No Fu had very limited seating.
The in-house chef Grant served freshly baked rye bread every morning along with the Japanese/Western breakfast. The highlight was Grant's 3 course degustation dinner of smoked duck breast, beef cheek pasta and chocolate fondet. All our needs and enquires about the various ski runs and onsens were answered by Rina, Riki, Laura, Paige, Tom and Ollie. We will certainly be back.

Silverhorn service is second to none

Great location, very clean, staff very friendly and helpful. The chair lift is across the road. The staff shuttle you if you need to go anywhere. Onsen is private, you book it at reception for your preferred timeslot. Breakfast is set menu for hot food.

Wonderful hotel across road from chairlifts

My family (husband and two young adult daughters) had a fabulous 8 nights at Silverhorn!!! Fantastic and super helpful team who went above and beyond, thank you Brian, Ricky, Rina, Grant and all.  Delicious food (different themes different nights - sat night degustation was sensational and such excellent value), really comfy beds and lovely rooms. Fantastic location across the road from the Akakura Kanko gondola / buses that take you to other Myoko resorts/snow monkeys etc.  You can ski back home to just across the road! Hotel shuttle service to/from train and other village restaurants.  We absolutely loved our stay and hope to be back!!

Best place to stay in Akakura!!

A wonderful stay at this small hotel. Staff are excellent- bilingual, always friendly and helpful, and make great coffee.
The food here is individually prepared and delicious (mostly Western style).
Directly opposite the ski lifts and with a shuttle service available into town… which is only an 8 minute walk away anyway.

Convenience at its best at Akakura Kano Resort

As noted by previous reviewers - outstanding staff; friendly, helpful and who do their best to accommodate various requests such as transportation to collect & return skis or to/from the bus stop or train station, visits to local restaurants, etc.  They were just wonderful, especially with my elderly mother.  While Akakura Onsen has the bulk of the restaurants and shops, Akakura Kanko (Akakan) has the Sky Gondola, which is just a short walk across the carpark from the hotel (and you can ski back even closer; you just cross the road to get back to the hotel).

The not long renovated western style rooms are super comfortable and clean.  There’s a ski storage area with separate ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’ entrances/exits and a free guest laundry (one washer and two dryers).   There’s a dai yokujō (big bath); staff are open that it’s not strictly an onsen, as it isn’t supplied by onsen water, but by (very) hot town water. The furnishings, setting and etiquette are similar to an onsen though and still muscle soothing – you might not get the therapeutic benefits of the onsen mineral water, but you don’t get any sulphur smell either.

There’s a differing hot breakfast option each day.  Dinner (ate in 3 nights) is mostly western/fusion, tasty and decent value, however, Thursday (well it was while we were there) is Nabe night – oishii! The staff though are very open-minded and happy to recommend restaurant alternatives and make bookings for you (especially when speaking Japanese helps).  Izakaya Pontaro around the corner (<5min walk) is a great place for a meal and drinks. Waremokou (next door) was also decent for lunch.

We had initially aimed to book a place in Akakura Onsen, but the ones we wanted weren’t available, which was fortuitous, as we had no regrets staying at Hotel Silverhorn. A big shout out to Brian x 2, Naomi, Luca, Reina, Fabian and chef Grant for contributing to a brilliant holiday!

Stay here!

Dinner at this restaurant was superb. The chef puts on a choice of two entrees, two mains and a dessert with a different theme each night. On our first visit, we tried sashimi and then seared tuna or beef cheeks with mash followed by a divine deconstructed poached pear cheesecake. Our second visit was curry night, which included delicious accompaniments like pineapple chutney, yoghurt dressing and roti.  We let the chef know in advance that we had a vegetarian guest and he was happy to cater for her
