I really recommend this place for a weekend when you dont want to think about anything. In summer you can play ping-pong or sing in the karaoke for free, and you can also use the hot spring. I really recommend the restaurant, because the Myoko Kogen Beer is AMAZING

Pretty good hotel, and the beer of the restaurant wa just great!

This hotel is a typical Japanese ski hotel with an attached onsen (indoor and outdoor) and ski in-ski our location. It’s right next to a chair lift. The rooms are large with a bed area and a tatami area, and amenities are quite complete. The star attraction must the buffet dinner which has an amazing array of selections and is of good quality. There’s a real brewery in the big dining hall (like a beer hall), making real beer that is sold locally.

But this ski area (Suginosawa) isn’t connected to the main area Akakura, so expect to either take different buses timed at weird schedules or keep skiing the same green runs in one area! there is a shuttle bus run by the village but it just finished running when we arrived..walking is an option (about 40 min) or take half a trip by bus and walk the other half. But if the snow is heavy, walking is not recommended.

The ski rental is quite basic but is good for beginners. 

the staff is friendly and helpful but would help if more spoke English.

All in all this is suitable for families looking for gentle slopes and simple skiing. Having some knowledge of Japanese would help!

Good for beginner skiers with an amazing dinner

I came here in the middle of Golden Week (early May) in Japan.  You can still see snow capped mountains in the distance.  Hotel is situated at the foot of ski slope.  So in ski season this place must be very convenient for skiers.
Hotel itself is a bit dated but still comfortable to stay.  Rooms and bedding are clean.
But bath tub in your rooms needs a good cleaning.  I recommend you go to the big bath.  There are four big baths situated in this hotel, two for each sex.  
Breakfast is buffet of Japanese and Western foods.  Japanese selection are quite good.
I would recommend this place to be visited all year round.

Hotel for not only ski and snowboarding but for family leisure.

We stayed at this hotel with our 7 year old child, whilst it's not walking distance to the main town you can get short cab there.

Whilst the rooms and hotel itself is a little tired and the bathrooms really could do with a renovation everything functioned.

There wasn't really anything for our child to do on an evening, however had there been other children with us it might have been better.

I'm rating this high because the staff were helpful and friendly, the ski hire was right next to the hotel and the best value of all around the area and you can literally ski to your hotel front door. The ski resort on the door step of the hotel is terrific.

Bizarrely you could book the ski passes to your room but not the ski hire. Ski hire had to be paid in cash and as with most of Myoko nearly everywhere only accepts cash.

We liked this hotel as there were manly Japanese and very few international travellers so we really felt like we were in Japan.

The food options for evening meals are huge and a good variety, breakfast was the same but regrettably there were no cereal options it really was focused on Japanese only. It would have been nice to have been able to have some cereals.

If you enjoy been away from your own kind and mixing with the locals this is a great place. The staff tried their best to accommodate us despite really only one or two that could speak English.

Don't expect luxury or Western breakfast or being able to walk into town but do expect good food choice in the evening, helpful staff and a terrific ski resort right on your door step. Oh don't forget the amazing snow this place offers.

If you take kids, take board games or an iPad for the evening.
