Great place for a family gathering. We had a very great time here with my wife and kids. How do you recommend to visit here to have a very great lunch. The food is very great Adam is furious very good the place is very clean. 


Great place for a family gathering

This place is the experience that we were looking for! the town is beautiful and the hotel is very well located. The host are very nice and have figured our the way for their guest to understand it all. It was a memorable experience to have dinner and breakfast!

A stay to remember!

stayed overnight before proceeding out hike from megome to tsumago. the house is 120 years old.. cozy..we ordered their dinner which was a fantastic spread. there’s even an evening performance of samurai dance which is a not to be missed event 😉 everyone had fun and enjoyed a sake after that.  only downside is it has a shared common bath for females.. no private bathing bathroom.  but then its more if a guesthouse setup anyway.. overall very comfortable and friendly boss who owns the house which has been in passed down generations.. 

120 year old house

Staying in this Minshuku completed my experience of the Nakasendo Trail.  Food served for dinner and breakfast was generous and tasty.  This simple but clean accommodation is located right on the Nakasendo Route.  Do travel light as the Inn is 200m uphill from the bus stop. The shared toilets and bathrooms are segregated by gender. Bathrooms are in the basement whilst the toilets are on the first floor. We had a cultural dance experience as they thought us a traditional dance after dinner. Staff were very helpful and I recommend this hotel if you are looking for a place to stay in Magome.

Wonderful stay

This was a two night stop on a short Japan road trip. For us, driving and parking in the public car park was very easy. The Ryokan a short but steep walk up the hill.Our room was a lovely traditional room and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and welcoming as is usual in Japan. The highlight was the food which was delicious and beautiful to look at. Perfect for novices of the Japanese menu! The setting was near perfect for our walk to Tsumago and the bus back was easy as the staff gave us the times. We loved everything about our stay.

Superb

We stayed at Tajimaya one night to break up our Nakasendo walk. (We walked from Nagatsukawa to Magome on the first day, which included a lovely stone-paved stretch through a forest, and then from Magome through Tsumago to Nagiso on the second day from where we caught a train back to Nagastukawa, Nagoya, and Tokyo - no buses required!)
We loved how traditional Tajimaya is -- the owner explained that his great grandfather ("Who was short!") built the inn, and their family had run it for four generations. We arrived, hot and sweaty from our hike, and had showers and baths. Then we changed into our yukata, sipped tea and nibbled cookies in our traditional tatami-floored sitting room, and waited for dinner which was served promptly at 6. 
Dinner was a feast -- we had asked the owners when we booked a couple months before whether they could prepare food for us without beef, chicken, or pork, and they made us an amazing seafood and vegetable dinner that was almost overwhelming. After dinner we strolled around the town, smiling at the other visitors, almost all of whom were also in yukata and sandals. 
The owner had invited us all to learn a traditional samurai song and dance, and a few of us showed up and gamely tried to follow along. We were rewarded with some more history of the house, and offered sake. When a guest asked if it was local sake, he said, "No ... it's *my* sake ... just rice and mountain water." Yep, he makes his own delicious sake, too. 
We slept soundly on the futons in our bedroom, and then were up and ready for breakfast at 7:30am -- another feast. 
Of the two weeks we spent in Japan, Tajimaya was probably our favorite lodging, and was certainly a destination in itself. Between the beautiful inn, the excellent hospitality, and the amazing food, it was a wonderful experience.

Excellent traditional ryokan stay in a charming village -- and enjoy a feast!

Really nice ryokan, the staff was super nice and very hospitable. We stayed for two nights, and the second day they gave us an extra room, as they thought we were too squeezed in the two rooms we already had (we are 4 persons). Very nice gesture! Good food, and a very nice little one-man onsen!

5 stars for the eminent hospitality 

The proprietor here really goes out of his way to give you a taste of the traditional. Shared shower is something new for us but if you strike aJapanese lady to share with you seem to feel at ease and it also gives you some idea of how its done. Our traditional meal was delicious and the singing and dancing later was fun. Our host was also eager to give us some Japanese language and explain everyday things. Although a bit more expensive than some hotels, it is well worth it. Both dinner and breakfast ssere an experience  in themself.

Great place to experience traditional ways and learn some Japanese singing and dancing

We were made to feel very welcome. Our room was upstairs overlooking the main street which was quiet at night. It was noisy during the day as the shop opposite had a lady shouting her wares constantly, unusual for Japan.
The Onsen was one at a time but clean. The food was excellent and the service very good. Could not get air conditioner to blow warm air but think that was my mistake.
Great start location for Nakasendo way walk.
Sent backpack onto Tsumago for £5, bargain.

Traditional

We stayed one night at Inn Tajimaya and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room was nice, the food excellent, location perfect and quiet and the group after dinner dance/singing were a hoot! The innkeeper was very knowledgeable and helped us organize our walking which included sorting out transportation. We travelled to Magome by bus arriving in late morning so we walked to Tsumago in the afternoon and took the local bus back to Magome.

I would say the only gripe was it was a bit of a trek to the (clean) toilets. But not enough of an issue to highly recommend the inn.
