Lodge Hahnenkamm

Nozawaonsen

It was our 2nd time skiing at Nozawa and we couldn’t have been happier staying at lodge Hahnenkamm for 5 nights. We were picked up at the bus stop in the Lodge van (and also dropped off at the end of stay). The facilities were clean. There’s a drying room for ski gear and common space was large & comfortable, with a fireplace and music. The breakfasts were varied and different each of our 5 days. Plus we enjoyed 2 dinners at the lodge as well (more on that later).

Our western bed was comfortable (not on the floor!) and the room was large and the in-lodge onsen was hot as ever and never had to wait to soak.

Staying up on the slopes does have a perceived disadvantage - the moving walkway closes at 5:00 which makes traveling to the town for dinner a challenge. We never had dinner in town, but instead chose to visit town during lunch, in between ski runs. All our dinners were up at the base of the slopes in Hanakam lodge (twice) and ate at 3 others lodges near us (with reservations). It was a little more expensive, but the meals were very different and the evenings were calm and generally quiet. We will stay here when we ski Nozawa again next year!

Best slope-side Lodge!

My husband, myself and our 16 Yr old son and 17 yr old daughter have just had the best 5 days at the snow ever. This Lodge is run by a beautiful Japanese family who will do everything they can to make your stay amazing. My husband needed to see a dr and as we are Australian and don’t speak any Japanese this was difficult. The owner organised the booking for us and also was most understanding and helpful when our son became ill for a couple of days. 
We were picked up in a caterpillar truck from the bus stop and dropped off for our pick up in a taxi back to the train station. 
The Lodge is extremely well looked after, cosy, warm and spotless. 
The rooms are all you need very comfortable and affordable. The wifi is fantastic. All rooms have different configurations for couples,families etc. There are only 7 rooms so this is a quiet lodge. There is plenty of hanging space for clothes. The washing machine and dryer are most useful. The shared bathroom, one for males and one for females, is a room with 2 showers and a beautiful hot Onsen like bath. I tried a local Onsen and could not get in the water as it was too hot. The Onsen like bath at the lodge is just lovely after a day on the slopes. The showers are on the ground floor and the toilets 2 for males 2 for females are on the accommodation floor. Remember there are only 7 rooms. So it is not a problem. The Lodge was fully booked when we were there and we never waited for showers or the toilet. 
The breakfast and dinners are Japanese style food and absolutely delicious. All food is served to you at the table and the view out to the slopes is stunning. 
The walk into town is quite easy as long as you are back by 4.40 ( perhaps the times change through the year) as this is when the moving footpath and chairlift close. The chairlift is a 50 m walk and takes you into the lower area of town. The moving footpath is about a 150 m walk and takes you to the top of town where most of the restaurants are. We stayed in town for dinner one night and walked back up the hill. It wasn’t too bad a walk but decided to eat at the lodge after that. We found it best to look around town through the day. There are a few restaurants to choose from near the lodge we did try one other and were disappointed. Lodge Hahnenkamm’s food is delicious and very Japanese. There is no need to go anywhere else. The bar in the restaurant is well stocked. The basement has a dry room where the skis etc are stored overnight. 
Next door to the lodge is a lift ticket 
Booth. This is true ski in and ski out. We will definitely be back everything about this lodge was amazing.

Amazing Lodge on the snow

Spent 6 nights at the wonderful Lodge Hahnenkamn. A cosy little lodge with basic but certainly adequate facilities. Well maintained & passionately run by a lovely extended family. Book for the 2000 yen in house dinner each night if you enjoy traditional Japanese food. Situated on the slopes ensures quick out the door skiing which is great if you don't wish to walk too far in ski boots!  I would not hesitate to stay here again if we were to revisit Nozawaonsen again in the future. 

A wonderful Japanese ski in/ski out experience

My son and I stayed here for 5 nights in Feb 2016.
We found this lodge to be almost perfect for our needs. The one drawback is the distance to town.
Our room was large, clean and comfortable with a great view of the ski runs from our windows.
Breakfast was a highlight as each morning the staff prepared something different leaving us wondering if they were waiting for us to leave before they dare to repeat any of the dishes.
Staff were also extremely friendly & helpful.
There is no actual onsen but the washrooms have an onsen style to them and there is a large bath with similar minerals that you can use.
As mentioned, the only down side is that getting back from the town after 5pm is a long long uphill walk unless you are lucky enough to hitch a ride which we did. 
(The road is closed to regular vehicles so only vehicles with special tracks can come up). There is a motorized walkway that goes both directions but closes at 5pm. 
On the positive side, you can get dinner in the lodge and even "Special Dinner" if you book ahead.
As far as skiing/snowboarding, the lodge is just 20m from the lift ticket office and a gentle slide down the slop to the Hikage gondola. At the end of the day you just ski/board ride up to the door. 
For absolute ski in ski out, this place is great but be prepared for a long walk if your heading to town at night.......

One of the very few ski in ski out lodges in town....

We had 10 days with Naoko and her team and it was great. The accommodation is basic, toilet and wash facilities down the hall and Onsen/shower in the basement. The breakfasts in the dining room were good as was the evening meal, when we decided to eat in. A couple of nights we walked down to the town, which is probably the most interesting ski town we have been to (have been to 12 different resorts). The walk back up the hill is challenging, but good training for skiing. The ski in ski out was fantastic. Nozawa is one of our favourite ski venues in Japan.
