The location is superb for accessing the gondola and the village is an easy 5 min walk, the room was spacious for the 3 of us. Downsides: no transport to and from Chuo bus stop ( drag your luggage through the snow yourself up the hill to the shuttle bus ) no sink in the room, breakfast quite average, tiny common area, 3 beds are accessed by a steep fireman-like ladder to an attic area that felt unsafe. And the hot water runs for 30 secs after which you have to press the button to keep going. Basically you get a little freezing burst of water every 30 seconds. Overall pretty good.

Great location and room space

We stayed at Lodge Nakajima for a week recently and can highly recommend. It is family run so has a personal vibe and the owners are extremely friendly and caring. It was snowing heavily the day we left and we could not get a taxi so they drove us to the bus station. Our room was spotlessly clean, and quite spacious by Japanese standards. We had plenty of space for luggage, clothes and our personal effects. We had a heater (which we used rarely) and tea making facilities. Towels were refreshed every second day.I was concerned about no ensuite but in fact we had a toilet and basin right outside our room which seemed to be for our exclusive use - I never saw anyone else using them. The ski storage/drying room facilities are more than adequate, there is a washing machine (200JPY) and a little sitting area on the top floor with drinks vending machine and free coffee. Breakfast was western style - fruit, cereal, toast and always a cooked plate of eggs of some description. It is a small lodge so the guests get to know each other and dining room is a real meeting hub. It also doubles as a cafe/bar for the public until 4pm. They do not serve dinner but it is a short stroll down the hill to the centre of the village where there are lots of eating options. The best bits were the in-house bath house/onsen and the location - just 10m across the road to the main gondola and ski back to the front door. Loved it - we will definitely come back here again.

Great value lodge in fantastic location

My husband and I stayed in this family owed lodge. It was so well organised and clean and the most amazing location opposite the main gondola to the ski slopes. 
The rooms were a great size with sleeping on traditional Japanese bedding- plenty of 
lush doonas, blankets and heating. I thought the idea of shared toilets and shower/  Osen I wouldn't like but it was no problem at all. Like everywhere in Japan there is ladies and men's toilets and bathrooms. I couldn't wait to get in at 4pm everyday to have my Osen (which is like a large natural spa wihich has been filtered so no Sulfur smell).  Breakfast everyday was excellant with a great choice tea / coffee juice cereal toast and hot plate which varied everyday of eggs, bacon, sausages etc. Great storage and drying room for skis / snowboards and boots downstairs. This was also a great place to eat lunch as we could ski in and get just what you needed like Japanese Katsu curry / ginger chicken and rice.  We ate out every night down into the village which was a 5-10 minute walk ( just make sure you have good snow proof shoes with good grip) heaps of great choices and prices. I loved this ski village and can't wait to stay again.

Skiing perfect location

We stayed as a family of 4 with two young boys. 

The Lodge is in a great location right near the Nagasaka gondola. 

There are not many eating options close by with the Craft Room being the best. 

We didn’t eat lunch there but we ate breakfast there every morning which is a hearty breakfast to get you going till after lunch. 

The whole lodge is very clean with nice toilets and a good little Onsen. 

Plenty of room down stairs in the boot and gear room. 

We would definitely go back and stay there. 

Family friendly with great hosts

We stayed for four nights in January, the Lodge Nakajima is located at the Nagasaka resort area of the Nozawaonsen. It takes 10~12 minutes walk to another ski resort Hikage.  From the bus stop at the town center we walked uphill for 15 minutes.  If you are okay for the walk with luggages this lodging is superb to skiing around the areas.  You can ski in ski out. Nearby the lodge there are restaurants and gear shops.  We love to walk by the 300 meter road to the Hikage resort it is tree lined and peaceful. Our room has a upper level housed two beds and comfortably reside for 3 people and more. The toilet is outside the room. The hotel prepare breakfast at reasonable charge and also serve lunch.  There is the onsen at the basement. Cleanliness overall is good. Room charge is reasonable with the location and room quality. We shall consider to stay in this place again on our next visit.

Valued Lodging Good Location

This ryokan is a great budget option for anyone looking for an affordable ski holiday. There are a few things worth noting before booking however.
This ryokan is located opposite the Nagasaka gondola which provides access to the whole mountain for skiing. The downside is you are 10 min walk from the rest of town, the restaurants and all the action. It’s a brilliant way to start your day for access to ski rental places and the gondola but not so great when you’re exhausted after a day of skiing and have to walk into town for dinner.
The owners and staff were lovely and helpful. A couple of them speak good English and if you get someone who doesn’t, they’ll grab someone who can help. Breakfast was great with western and Japanese options.
This is a budget option and a traditional ryokan. There was no ensuite in our room but shared male and female toilets on the same floor where the rooms are. There is a traditional Onsen in the basement for bathing and is only open from 4pm till 9pm daily. This was awesome after a day of skiing but is shared with other guests and you have to wash and bathe naked. This is a Japanese custom and I really enjoyed the experience. There are no showers if you like to shower in the mornings.
The rooms are basic with tatami mats for flooring, a thin futon on the floor as a mattress. I struggled with this and found it uncomfortable for sleeping. My girlfriend had no problems though.
If you’re fine with all of this, stay here! We loved it! If you’re uncomfortable with anything mentioned, spend more and stay in town.

Great value traditional ryokan 

This is great place to stay if your are going skiing. It’s directly opposite the ski lifts and gondolas at Nagaska station. You can ski in and out. Very clean rooms. Lovely and helpful staff (a family run business) traditional style rooms. Shared bathroom but with the benefit of its own Onsen great after a day on the slopes. I will definitely stay here again!

Top location, a great find

This little place is right opposite the ski hire place and the main Nagasaka Gondola which takes you to the right side of the slopes as you face them. A Ryoken style place with tatami mats and bedding, shared bathroom and communal separate male and female showers and Onsen. Not far from the public Onsen also available in Nozawa. Western or traditional Japanese breakfasts to get you going. Walking distance to restaurants and all the other Nozawa Onsen attractions.
