6400 yen for a double bed, free WiFi, and a free modest breakfast!  I have paid twice as much for the same thing.

Before bedtime we walked along the river on the wide sidewalk. Cool evening air. Lots of nightlife around.  My wife said she really liked that.

Shoes are removed upon entering- and the go in the shoe locker in exchange for a pair of slippers. First time we encountered this in a hotel. Quaint.  Don’t lose track of your shoe locker key!

Hey! Why are all these men in bathrobes? Oh- there is a public men’s bath on the first floor. But there were other couples and other foreigners staying here- so there isn’t a “men only” hotel feel. But the first impression is funny.

Nice front desk service.

The room was a little bigger than that found in Dormy Inn. There is a small refrigerator. There is a standard shower and toilet. Big TV.  

I only found out about breakfast by reading the notebook found in the room. One egg and bread? But of course there is a toaster oven and margarine and jam., and various drinks. We liked it. Most hotel breakfasts are fancier - but you pay for it - yet this is free. Why not? We were going to just get so thing at the bread shop- this was fine.



For this price, I give it 4 stars

What a difference from the Maira Hotel almost next door, and much better than the current photo! Friendly staff, free non-alc drinks, BIG Japanese style bath, robes, towels and the like, TV, laundry, free breakfast. Boy, these guys really do try! Great night's sleep. One little moan, no wi-fi available in the rooms, only a PC in the lobby. Hopefully, they will rectify this. Otherwise, a four star hotel for a two star price. Well done!

Good value for money.

Got the newly renovated double room. The room is pretty big by japanese standard. We expected a much smaller room for the price we paid. Affordable, clean, and comfortable for 2 nights stay. Breakfast was sufficient with 1 egg and 1 bread. The bread actually tasted good and pillowy. Free soda during stay. Location is also quite good. walking distance from okayama station. We were quite unsure when we booked this hotel since there are not many english reviews but we glad we took the chance. Definitely value for money.

Note: you have to take off your shoes and put it in the locker provided when you enter this hotel. This is not a problem for us as we are used to this but some travellers might find this policy inconvenient


Value for money

I had a double room which was really basic. The have a no shoes rules but the slippers they provide for your use look filthy! They have an onsen but only for men, which was useless for me. Most of the guests appear to be men. 

The breakfast was just one bit of bread and one egg. Unlimited hot drinks and soft drinks. I wouldn't really consider this as a proper breakfast?

Free wifi which was decent. 

English of the reception staff was very poor. Nobody understood any of my questions. 

Within walking distance of the train station although a bit tricky to find. I originally though the hotel was next to the river, but actually it is next to a canal so dont be midled by the name as you may end up walking past the canal towards the river which was what i did!

Very basic.

I stayed in the Room A for one night. The hotel is located about 7mins walk away from Okayama JR Station. From the station, walk straight down along the street, passing by Takashimaya on your right. Walk further down till you see the canal and turn right. There are a few other hotels along the canal, and you'll find Hotel Riverside after passing a couple of alleyways.

From the hotel entrance you will see rows of shoe lockers; proceed in and the check-in counter is on the left. Check-in was a breeze and the staff changed my room to non-smoking without hesitation when I told her I made a mistake during my booking. At check-in you will receive a toiletries pack. You can also rent bathrobes and grab additional toiletries supplies for free. Corridors were really cool with the AC blasting, and you get a whiff of aroma oils all around. Room is very clean, and awkwardly spacious for a single room. The room has a single bed, and mini-fridge, and a small digital TV. Bathroom is very narrow but manageable for Asian women like me.

In the lobby you can get free drinks (coffee/tea/soft drinks), and there is only 1 PC available for internet use. Note that the PC is located right at the smoking corner of the lounge. The hotel also provides free rental of laptops. You can also use the toaster anytime.

The capsules and onsen (common bath) are for men only. Thus, majority of the guests are males, so this hotel might not suit ladies who feel uncomfortable to be around so many guys.
