The ryokan is about 10-15 minutes walk from Sapporo station. When I checked in , I was told that the city was full of teenagers because of some sport competition (indeed when we walked in the city in was overloaded with teens). So many of the rooms in the ryokan were filled with young men, giving the feeling of staying at a hostel. The place also had an unpleasant scent. The people who ran the place were very courteous and accommodating.  

A decent ryokan, more like an upscale hostel

Compared to my earlier stays in Ryokans throughout Japan, Nakamuraya is just not good enough. Their Onsen is a laugh, barely bigger than my bathtub at home and cramped inside the building with no veiws to the outside. Their food is just about adequate, nothing to write home about. In short - not impressed!!

Gloomy and dissapointing

This typical Japanese-style hotel in Sapporo is very well located, about a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride from the train station. It is also about a 5-minute walk from Odori Park and the TV tower. The rooms are spacious and are furnished like a tea room during the day. At night, the servants, dressed in the typical kimono, extend futons on the floor and turn them into a typical bedroom of a Japanese house. The bathrooms are complete, including a bathtub. Another attractive feature of this Ryokan is the guest locker room, installed on each floor, a banvei and another banvei, 24 HS! There is usually nothing more pleasant than to use a nice male bathroom after a typical Sapporo hotel's snow-covered streets.

Comfortable and cozy.

Location was fantastic. A 10 -15 minute walk to any popular location or Sapporo train station. Next to the Botanical Gardens which was a bonus. Room was spacious enough for the 2 of us. Very clean & surprisingly comfortable. The staff we're lovely 
and very  accomodating.  I would certainly recommend this Ryokan .

Great 2 night stay

The location is excellent. Also a 7-11 is just around the corner. I could’t find anywhere better with this price and location. 

Hospitality and housekeeping were great, nothing to complain. I liked the daily green tea. 

I’ll definitely stay here again when visiting Sapporo. 

Excellent location

This ryokan carries a great reputation, but it feels more like a small hotel/hostel than a traditional ryokan. Staff are pleasant and it contains the features of a ryokan, but it is large with a cafe and lacks the warmth of the more traditional ryokans, which are still the homes of their owners. 

Some features of a ryokan, but more like a hotel or hostel 

We went to Gunma without booking any hotel. We saw an information service that helped us find hotel nearby. She recommended this ryokan to us. But it is sad to say, we had unpleasant stay here. The room looks fine. It's old but clean and that's maybe the only good thing about this place and everything else was disappointing. 

we checked in around 15:30 and they told us that they won't be able to serve us food as we checked in late. Which surprised me and my husband but we still considerated it. But then, we didn't know that we won't get breakfast too. Which I don't really understand and they charged us at the same price that should include food. We had to prepare for our futon. I dont know if that's the rules but I wasn't happy with that as well. And when we checked out, it was raining heavily, there were a lot of umbrella at the front and I thought that a staff would be kind enough to lend us umbrella as we had to walk to the parking area to get our car. And again, another disappointing moment. They didn't assist us nor lend us umbrella. 

Definitely not coming back here again. Not worth the money at all.

Unsatified! Not recommendable!

I stayed here one night in early April. I picked this location for the ryokan experience, its location (withiin 10 mins. walk of Sapporo Station), and other reviews. The communal onsen bath (gender separate) is open 24hrs. and was very relaxing. I made good use of the laundry facility which happened to be on my floor. Best of all, the staff who showed me my room and explained everything were possibly the most friendly and helpful hotel staff I've ever met. Same for the kitchen staff in the morning when they helped me with breakfast. In-room dining service is available from a large menu at very reasonable prices. I look forward to coming back here again and hope that everything is exactly the same.

Wonderful Experience and Staff

We stayed for three nights and had a very comfortable stay. Beds were ready when we arrived late evening with a flask of hot water to make a green tea. Also had a flask of cold water. Fridge in the room too. Hairdryer and toiletries provided as well as towels which were fresh every day. My husband enjoyed the indoor onsen bath. Staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble. Thank you for a wonderful stay. 

Lovely stay

Hotel in classical Japanese style, rooms comparatively large. Breakfast good (Japanese style), but not exceptional. Clean and somewhat large Ofuro/Sento. Friendly staff with good food recommendations for the environment.
