This hotel is not an modern hotel, however it's so good that you can enjoy traditional Japanese hotel experience.

The room is clean and comfortable, even they don't have bathroom in the room(For sure this is an traditional hotel), however the bathroom is super clean.

The owner is nice people, the breakfast is very good Japanese style- they will change different main dish everyday.

The location is very close to train station, very quiet but nice and safe area, they also have free parking space for your car!

By the way they are also friendly to family visits included kids.

I absolutely will come back here next time!

The perfect experience to stay at transitional Japanese hotel!!

We were in Takaoka for the 40th Aniversary of Nishio Style Aikido Foundation (big deal). There were over 180 participants from well over a dozen countries; some of whom stayed at this place, myself included. 
They have different size rooms. Families had their own rooms, couples had their own rooms, I shared with another two practitioners, others shared a ten person room. The mats were comfortable, the rooms had little balconies and plenty of storage, individual heaters which did the job at night. This being an old, historical hotel, there were outlets, but not everyone, and not enough. I had a cord with multiple plugs, and it got a lot of action. 
The bathrooms were shared. The toilets were few, and with the hotel full, it was a bit of an inconvenience. The runners of the hotel, a family, were super-nice. Although their English was limited, they gave us perfect directions, recommendations, called cabs, and their cooking skills were unparalleled. Their matcha tea is to die for. The corridors and common areas were too cold for my taste (but I live in California, and I'm temperature spoiled). 
There is a ramen place, walking distance; once we ate there, there was no point going anywhere else at night. 
Being a historical thing, our stay there was somewhat partially subsidized, so it was dirt cheap. 
The hotel is walking distance to the Takaoka Budokan, but it was so cold on the first walk, that I suggested taking cabs. The cabs run about 7 bucks one way, and if you share the ride with others, it's like two bucks a head. After we took the first cab, no one walked the 15 minute walk again.
The Daibutsu, across the street, is a free, nicely preserved temple. Don't listen to the crybabies who compare it to other Daibutsu that happen to be built by emperors and shoguns. This one is built by the people here, and it's a testimony to their effort and spirit. On top of that, this Buddha really pays attention. Three years back, on a similar trip, one of my team mates had been injured in a workout at the Hombu Dojo. He had just had eye surgery, and his eye got scratched during training. 
I prayed that he makes a complete recovery, and threw some coins into the box. Buddha obliged. 
The runners of the ryokan were genuinely happy and grateful the place was full. They worked their butts off to make our stay there as pleasant as possible. And they succeeded. We all loved it. 
If you want to experience true Japanese hospitality and rough it up a little, but keep it real cheap and real, take the cab from the rail station straight to this place. 

Three days and three nights at the historic ryokan 

We traveled to Takaoka for a festival in Toyama and came across this accommodation because we were looking for something typical of Japan. The Daibutsu Ryokan even exceeded our expectations! It is a small, cozy accommodation with very friendly staff and excellent Japanese breakfast. Besides, you can only walk a few minutes to the train station to get to Toyama quickly and directly.

Very nice hotel with nice staff

(1) 旅館為擁有多年歷史的建築，住在極為寬敞的傳統日式套房感覺很舒服。即使建築古老，內裡卻很乾淨，而且有池塘庭園可觀賞錦鋰
(2) 無線 WIFI 連接速度很快
(3) 旅館於11pm關門，惟本人入住當天因天氣及交通問題到11:30pm才到，老闆經電話得悉情況後，決定耐心等待本人到場，此舉實為值得敬重。而且CHECK OUT時更送了本人一份小禮物。

(1) Old and historic architecture with classic, spacious and tidy rooms, enclosed with garden pond which is definitely a bonus in scenery
(2) Very fast Wifi connection speed
(3) Housekeeper patiently wait for arrival at 11:30pm after acknowledging I was late due to transportation issue. Respect for such attitude (P.S. The hotel will close the main door at 11pm)

住在多年歷史建築，伴隨著服務周到的老老闆

This place is huge i still get lost sometimes. Owners help us with everything. It looks like this place was huge and popular decades ago. The room is huge and all but they do not entertain many guests as there is only one toilet for ladies and one for men. The shower room has two showers each and two small onsens. If this hotel was renovated, i will love it a lot more. Place is 10 minutes walk to jr station. Not far. When i stayed there with my fam, there is only another guest so its like having the hotel all for yourself.

Quite rundown but nice owners

If accomodation in Kanazawa or Toyama (for the Alpine traverse) is fully booked or expensive at your dates, you can commute with local trains from cheaper Takaoka.
Excellent traditional ryokan, lots of available rooms, large rooms, welcoming in English, close to the railway station, good wifi, ... all of this at really low price.
Traditional so thin walls around the rooms.
There is a small supermarket in an adjacent street.

Excellent, cheaper base for Kanazawa and Toyama

Located ten minutes' walk from Jr. Station, a few meters behind Takaoka's large bronze Buddha, this family-friendly and warm ryokan is ideal for me to radiate around the area, whether it's to visit Kanazawa, Toyama, Inami or even the beautiful coastline of Himi and its stunning view of the Japanese Alps. The room I was assigned was spacious, clean and had a small carp pool.
