old charming onsen hotel
Kawayuonsen is a quiet onsen village, choose here if you want to get rid of the crowd. The hotel is aged but the outdoor onsen is still very charming, you can enjoy the traditional onsen here without many tourist. Service is cold, they forgot to pick me up in the station as I stood in freezing cold

Very dated and in need of refurbishment
This hotel really is overdue a refurbishment. Our room was worse than the pictures - everything was shabby, worn or a bit frayed. The bathroom was tiny pod and the breakfast room felt a lot like an old youth hostel or student halls. The wifi was patchy.
My partner enjoyed the spa, although be warned
