Situated in a quiet neighbourhood, a good location to explore Tokyo, a 10-minute walk to metro/train stations. Very easy access if you are arriving/leaving from Narita airport. We stayed in a double room in the annex property a short walk away from the main premises, this offered a private en-suite room with small kitchen facilities. Considering you are in Tokyo, good value for money, the bathroom is small, but in general most things are on a smaller scale in Japan! I would stay here again.

Great location to explore Tokyo

I and my friends went to Japan for workshop and we stayed at this place. Great place, great people, great service. Every room is very neat. Toilets are very clean. They also have a kitchen. I recommend for anyone this place.

Great service for cheap price

Location: great, convenient, the only good thing about this place.

Cost: cheap, but not marginally enough compared to somewhere even half-decent.

Staff: one was friendly but creeping on the women, the other didn't care at all about the terrible state of the place nor about customer service...

Amenities: I have never been more disgusted in my life. I am not hard to impress, but considering how clean Japan is supposed to be, this place was absolutely. disgusting. Cockroaches literally everywhere--in the rooms, washrooms, kitchen.... smell of cigarettes and urine everywhere upstairs. Moldy. Beds creaking and breaking, parts held together by duct tape. Cramped and just dirty, dirty, dirty. I paid for 3 nights and could only stay for 1, all while losing half of what I paid. 

I'm so mad this was my first hostel experience, because now I'm afraid of ever staying in one ever again.

Disgusting AF

This hostel is really awful. The beds are very old and used. The beds and doors creak. Their is no noise canceling through the walls. You can hear everything from the neighbor rooms and the floor. The hostel is not very clean. The toilets are stinky. The sponge in the kitchen looks like rubbish.


Awful 

We stayed here with our family for 3 nights and it has been very convenient to us. The hostel gave us 1 whole room for a family of 4 (no kids). It was Sakura Season during our visit. The hostel is a few meters away from Sumida Park (cherry blossoms), Tokyo Cruise, Tokyo Skytree, Ichiran Asakusa, and subways (Ginza line and Asakusa line). With the Asakusa Line, it is much easier to go to Narita Airport - since they travel directly to/fro. You have to ask for the specific schedule though because not all trains in the Asakusa Line will go directly to the Narita Airport Terminals.

Our room was quite big for the 4 of us. It was actually for 6 people, but the hostel reserved it exclusively to us. (Plus points for that!) Our room visibly sees the lovely view of the Tokyo Skytree (from waking up until you go to bed).WIFI is very good. And in our floor, we have shared kitchen, toilet and bathroom which was clean and probably a good way to mingle with other travelers. We didn't have much issues as to who uses the communal areas first as we tend to leave the hostel late in the morning, while other travelers wake up early for the sightseeing.

It has a bar on the first floor - which was not too crowded and not too noisy at night. And they have comedy shows every Thursdays and it is free for the guests of the hostel. Outsiders pay 1,500 yen for the show (or depends on the comedians).

The only issue I had was that the bed I was sleeping on is squeaky. A small move and it squeaks. But I still got a good sleep though. Another issue was it doesn't have an elevator. We were 4 people, 3 of which are women and we have 6 luggages. It was a bit hard to bring the cases up to our floor - 4th floor to be exact!

But despite the 2 issues I experienced, I would still stay in Asakusa Smile Hostel if I will be in Central Tokyo mainly because of convenience (close to subway and easy access to Narita) and affordable accommodation.

Convenient and affordable stay in Asakusa

A short walk to the Asakusa train station which is served by the Ginza Line.  The hotel was adequate but could use a little sprucing up.  The Front desk was friendly and it is convenient to the train so if some cosmetic shortcomings don't bother you the value for the money is good.

Needs some upgrading

My friends and I stayed there for the first 2 weeks during our 2 weeks in Japan for winter break. Great place to stay and met alot of people worldwide! We got a room where we have a close view of the Skytree. Place was convenient with lots of place to visit, eat, and sightsee including the Skytree. Night walk around the neighborhood by Asakusa Smile was the best experience. There was a bar which my friend and I would go get a drink after. Staff were really welcoming and nice. Language barrier is no problem since most of the staff there speak English and Japanese. I sure do miss the place, but I hope to return there and stay longer.
