Poor service, stuff keeps smiling and apologizing but not sincere. Wanting us to eat early. Dinner at 5 pm. . Room was dirty and sticky. It the worst Ryokan I ever stayed. The only good thing is they have private onsen for couples or family. I wouldn’t recommend this Ryokan to any friends.

Friendly staffs but poor services. Room was dirty, tatami was sticky. Food badly cooked. Centipede in room.

The cost of the stay includes dinner with a crab and a lot of other dishes, private bathroom visits in the hotel itself, as well as public outlets in the city from 16 to 24 hours a day on the day of arrival and until 10 a.m. the next day. Dinner is covered in the room. For the first time in their lives, they slept on their dads. Very helpful staff, English speaking staff are assigned to foreigners.

Unique experience and super service

It was my first hot spring accommodation since I came to Japan.The room was small and the reception level was the lowest.Although going to a hot spring inn was a　one of the  purpose to visit Japan, I was disappointed.Response to the Japanese may be good, but the correspondence to foreigners is terrible. Will it be gaijin after all

i never feel hospittality

We stayed on a Saturday night, so the rate was much higher. The inn is quite old, but is well looked after. The staff are very friendly, but the "nakai-san" assigned to our room, that we talked with is from out of town and a little inexperienced, so she didn't know that much about the local info., nor about the "sake" we wanted to order ... I ordered the "local sake" and when I checked the bottle it was from another prefecture (which isn't that much of a problem but not that professional, in my opinion).
There are 5 private baths to choose from - we got to try only two of them - so, weekdays would probably be less crowded. The "seseragi" bath (on the left) was very good. It was spacious and clean with a lovely little garden view from the bath. The "madoka" bath is popular with couples but, was very tiny - a bit too claustrophobic.
Dinner was average, but offered a great variety of standard Japanese onsen dishes. We ordered the special Tajima beef sukiyaki (150g) and mini steak (50 g) course. I wouldn't recommend this, as local yaki-niku restaurants are cheaper and have better quality of Tajima beef.
Breakfast was served in a small common room on the first floor and it was crowded - due to a full house and only two times for serving breakfast. The table and chairs are a bit small and low, so having long legs doesn't help. The air-conditioner was on quite high, so it was very cold. Breakfast was an average size and offered the regular dishes for onsens. The taste was average.
Some of the deals offer the choice for ladies to choose their own yukata - I totally recommend doing this - I'm tall (173 cm) and they had a large selection, that even fit me ... it's great to go out to the town all dressed up, after dinner and most of the tourists are wandering around in their yukata's, as well.
Hakusan offers regular (free) bus trips (every 30 mins) up and back to the heart of Kinosaki Onsen. So, you can have a drink with dinner and still get up to the town ... it's about a 7-8 min drive - not that walkable.
At the moment (this may be a very good business model???), they offered us 2000 yen each in coupons to spend in town, which was great for buying souvenirs and things ... so, to get the maximum value out of the coupons, it's better to spend just over the amount, as they don't give any change (if you spend under the amount you can't use it, elsewhere). They also offered a free pass into the public baths ... which was a great experience but, weekdays would be less crowded, for sure - I felt a bit like a potato in a washing tub.
Our room was in front of the train line, and although the trains aren't that regular (one an hour???) if you're a light sleeper, expect to be woken up fairly early in the morning. The other side of the inn might be quieter ...
Overall, Hakusan is good ... but, the next time we come to Kinosaki Onsen, I'd like to stay in town.

A little far from the town, but very good services ...

We savored some rare and tasty delicacies here,dinner was very filling, breakfast was alright as it's served at the dining hall at lobby. No ONE speaks English, so most of the things we don't understand we use sign languages! the butler is very dutiful and goes out of her way to provide exceptional service, we took a pic with her,she blushed! The location is very near to train station,yet pick-up service is provided.
