After our journey through Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Routes we made an overnight stay at this family run hotel. It's clean and conveniently located approx. 50 meters from Tateyama Station where Tateyama Cable Cars served to and from Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Routes and to several other sightseeing locations include Shomyo Falls, Toyama City, several coastal towns by the Japan Sea, Kurobe City, Unazuki Onsen and Kurobe Gorge. Tateyama-machi is a small town with mountains and greenery around, quiet and peaceful. Since we traveled with luggage, we had luggage delivery arrangement made at the Kanko Hotel in Shinano-Omachi's Omachonsenkyo prior to the departure of our Alpine trip. At the end of our Alpine journey we arrived at Tateyama by cable car; our luggage had already been sent to Senjuso from Kanko Hotel where we stayed a night before. 

Hotel only accept cash payments, room including breakfast. If you want to have dinner prepared you must make arrangement in advance with the hotel owner. We didn't order dinner but was able to find a small grocery shop for some simple snacks. Hotel has no elevator, but owner will help getting the luggage to your room upstairs and down. All guest rooms are on upstairs. Each room with tatami flooring and has wash basin only. Toilets are located outside in the hallway. Shared bath with a small onsen is down the corner of the hallway on main level, small but clean. Breakfast is prepared in Japanese; good choices and very tasty. Japanese decorations are nicely arranged through out the hotel interiors. 

This hotel is conveniently located and totally non-smoking; an ideal place to rest before and after a day trip through Alpine Routes. Local sightseeing buses provide easy connections to area's national parks/Shomyo Falls and Toyama Chihou Raiway’s Tateyama Lines will take you to Toyama, Kurobe Gorge and Unazuki Onsen, a scenic hot spring resort to rejuvenate your bodies and souls.

Senjusou is literally a few steps away from Tateyama station. We got our Apline route tickets early morning and conveniently went back to the hotel to have our breakfast. Ryokan is very clean and well maintained. The only downside for us is the public shower / bath which is uncommon for us and made us uncomfortable. Otherwise, Sensujou is highly recommended to have an early head start for the Alpine route.


Ideal place to start the Alpine route

Most positive aspect of this small, family-run inn is the proximity to the Tateyama station. After a tiring hike, this is crucial. However, do note that there are only common toilet and bath facilities. And there are no lifts, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs. Overall ok for a one night brief stay. No frills.

The ryokan is very close to Tateyama Station so is an ideal place to stay overnight to get an early start on the Alpine Route, buying your ticket at the station before eating breakfast at the ryokan.
The ryokan is a great overnight stay. The Japanese style rooms are comfortable and had a wash basin.  The shared bathrooms are spotless and handy to the bedrooms.
Do book the half board, not just because there is nowhere else to eat but because the meals are delicious.
The staff are friendly and helpful. Our lack of Japanese language was not a problem as good humour and sign language on both sides, (plus Google Translate), overcame any difficulties.

Ideal starting place for the Alpine Route

Very near to Mt Tateyama station.
Cosy traditional japanese home stay. Very clean environment. Downside is there are no eatg place in the neighborhood. Can consider ordering their meals from the owner as she made nice japanese homecooked meal. For those who don't mind staying overnight on tateyama. If not better to stay at the city of toyama so that you can travel efficiently to other parts of Toyama and japan.
