The owner, Kobayashi, picked us from the train station, even though we missed the earlier train to Yudanaka station. He even offered to drive us to the Monkey Park the next morning. His wife is ever so friendly. This ryokan served very delicious Kaiseki dinner. Couple can have the onsen for private use during the non-peak hours. However, to avoid any embarrassing moment, proper signage should be available to warn other guest when the onsen is being used by couple. The owner also offered to drive us to the train station at the end of our stay. Highly recommended.

Lovely stay at a traditional Japanese guest house

We stayed at this hotel, Yudanaka Yasuragi, back in Nov 2016. The experience was amazing! The owners were super nice and the service was beyond what any 5 stars hotel provided!  We highly recommend to stay here with the dinner option.  You will not be disappointed.

Amazing experience if you are looking to stay at the traditional Japanese onsen hotel!

飯店距離車站有大概十分鐘的路程，我們到的時候還下雨，老闆娘還說怎麼不讓我們去載你們就好，老闆每天早上也都載我們去車站搭滑雪場的接駁巴士，甚至幫我們跟下一個飯店溝通是否可以接送我們去雪猴公園，他們相當熱情而且貼心。早餐跟晚餐都很豐盛好吃，我們都吃的超級飽。住宿內可以使用的溫泉泡起來很舒服，房間也很舒適寬敞，每天都有新的浴衣更換，雖然看照片可能沒有其他豪華的旅館來的漂亮，但實際上很棒，真的很值得來這裡住幾個晚上。

Mr. and Mrs. Kobayashi are both nice, Mr. Kobayashi drive us to train station to took the ski shuttle bus every day, Mrs. Kobayashi prepared the breakfast and dinner, those are delicious and we all are very full to eat. The onsen is good. The room is clean, comfortable, spacious. Even the photo they upload on the website is not beautiful enough than others expensive hotels', but actually it's awesome. Finally, hope Mr. and Mrs. Kobayashi like the Taiwan's pineapple cake we give them.

出乎意料的日式旅館

Yasuragi is a traditional Ryokan with two relaxing onsen and incredible hosts. 

A tip from a friend meant we booked this place for a night while on a 3 week trip around Japan. A short walk from the train station (you can arrange pick up if you like) and we arrived at what was an unassuming building, but a warm welcome. Having turned up before the check-in time we were kindly driven to see the Snow Monkeys, pointed out places to eat, drink and see in the town on the way. After the Monkeys we checked into our spacious, traditional room, changed into the robes provided and took a relaxing onsen before dinner. As the place was quiet we had an onsen to ourselves which was a nice touch.

Dinner at the Yasuragi was incredible, I can't recommend this enough. 8 courses seems a lot but it was the perfect amount before crashing out. The food was fresh and home made, some ingredients were hand picked from the surrounding farmlands.

I have no Japanese but the owners, Kobayashi and his Wife, were charming and helpful. Even in broken English we never struggled to understand or get our point across. They were knowledgable, funny and attentive without ever being intrusive, they really made us feel welcome. I wasn't really sold on the idea of a "Japanese B&B" beforehand but afterwards I was so pleased we did it.
There is a 7-Eleven just around the corner should you require anything and the town centre is just a few minutes walk away.

We came in summer so snow monkeys were just monkeys but I can imagine how great this place would be in the winter.

A dip in the Onsen for 36 hours

Highly recommend this wonderful ryokan. Spacious Japanese style rooms, very relaxing onsen and sauna and delicious food - definitely book dinner, it’s fabulous! Have stayed in many ryokan and this is up there with the best. Location isn’t pretty but as soon as you step inside you’re transported somewhere special.

Hidden gem

This hotel is owned by a lovely couple, who are always on-hand to help.  They don't speak much English, but they do try to communicate!  It is a small and cozy place.  We had a Japanese style room with tatami mats and futons, with ensuite bathroom.  We used the local public onsens most nights and also the in-house bath, but it was convenient to have our own bathroom (even though the toilet was not the high-tech type - the high tech toilets were available in the shared toilets!).  Everything was really clean and well maintained.  There is a drying room in the basement for leaving ski gear overnight.  

The location is perfect - only 2 minutes walk uphill to the gondola (or 10 minutes, if you are slow like me, in ski-boots, lugging skis and poles!).  It is not exactly ski-in/out, since skis are not allowed below the ticket booth area.  It is only a 5 minute walk downhill to the main street where the shopping and dining places are.  3 mins walk to the closest public onsen.  On arrival, we managed the walk with our luggage from the bus station up the hill to the hotel with not too much trouble, since there was no snow on the road.  However, on check out, we were given a lift to the station, since it was snowing, which was much appreciated.

We didn't try the breakfast but the dinner was amazing!  Kaiseki style, with lots of different plates (9 courses altogether!), all home cooked and very delicious.  Also at an extremely reasonable price!  Would recommend that you not miss having a dinner there!

We were given little surprises on some days, after returning from skiing - cut apples, small rice pancakes.  On check-out, we were given some apples to take with us!  (Nagano is the 2nd biggest producer of apples in the country!). 

The futons on tatami mats were very comfortable.  The pillows were buckwheat pillows and too hard for me but perfect for my husband. I had brought my own pillow so this was not an issue.  The quilts were very warm - so warm that we didn't need to have the heater on during the night!

Could not fault this hotel!

Excellent location for skiing, very comfortable accommodation

The location of this ryokan to visit the Monkey Park is the best. The lady in charge also went to greet us at the station and also took us back. It is advisable to book the Japanese-style breakfast, a wonder served with special affection. The aesthetics of the accommodation are very good and the cleanliness impeccable. The onsen has a wide schedule. The room, traditional was very large and with all the amenities, teeter, TV...If I returned to Yudanaka I stayed there too.

An innovative experience.

Wonderfully cozy accommodation in the heart of it all. I would recommend this place and will likely return next year. Rooms, showers, communal sink areas were very clean and well maintained. Western style toilets. We had a very comfortable stay here-choose a tatami style room with private bath, though we opted to use the Onsen. The location, practically next to Nagasaki Gondola, is fantastic for convenience to the  slopes. Not having to walk far with our ski gear was important with a 4 year old skier amongst us. A five minute walk down the hill from the lodge puts you in the heart of the Nozawa village. We were lucky to get parking by the front door. The owners confirmed our request for parking at the time of booking. Upon arrival we confirmed we wanted breakfast each day of our stay. Japanese style breakfast was provided. The portions were very generous and was delicious. We opted to eat dinner in town to explore Nozawa more. Next time we'll have more time and likely eat one dinner in, based on the dinner set we saw and smells from the kitchen. Wifi was good, free as described. And lastly, all things considered and knowing the wide range of pricing for accommodation here, this is an affordable spot with practical charm. The owners gave us a departing gift of the famous apples of the area which was a nice unexpected treat.

Cozy

We stayed five nights. Enjoyed five breakfast and 4 dinners, all Japanese style.  Location was excellent, two minutes walk to Nakasaka gondola via a stair. We rented our ski set at a shop near gondola. The shop provided lockers and could keep the ski set overnights, no need to take it back to Yasuragi. Yasuragi did had a dry room. 
The wifi signal was good with good speed. They provided free green tea. Boiling water was available in the pantry. As other commented that the owners were very nice, they did keep the rooms and public facility very clean. Many declarations (e.g. photo frame) were hand made by the owner's wife. However the changing area of the public shower was quite cold. If they could provide a heater, it would be perfect!

Very nice owner, very clean rooms and reasonable price

- the lodge is at the top of the village (almost).  
- I took the chance to take the train to Togari Nozawa onsen station, & apparently, the bus service there to Nozawa onsen was less frequent than I thought.  I ended up taking a taxi up there, & the meter charge would be around 4000yen.  worth to keep that in mind.
- the main bus station is about 10-15minute walk downhill fr the lodge.  That is where you will get off if you take the express bus fr Iiyama Shinkansen train station. 
- the owner, Ueno-san, offered to give me a ride down to the bus station, & said ok if I  call him next time for pick up from the bus station.
- his wife speaks slightly better english, & we get to use google translate.
- worth giving it a shot to try the dinner at the lodge.
- the village is very lively, & there are some reasonable choices for food, drinks, & ski rental.
- if you are looking for x-country ski, there is a rental shop near the bus station.  For this current ski season, there is not any English speaking ski coach for x-country ski.
