Grateful to experience this special Ryokan, with family history and wonderful facilities! 

Wonderful traditional breakfasts and mind blowing Michelin Star level dinners. 

Onsens in every room is good for anyone.

2:20 minute Shinkansen (bullet train) from Tokyo. 

All staff are lovely and very nice. 

I highly recommend this next level experience!

19 room.  Cypress wooden bath in my room. Was in Yamagata 05.  Was hoping for the stone tubs but those are on the ground floor and I did not do my research before booking.  Once I got past my initial disappointment, spent tons of time sitting in the rejuvenating open air bath

@ the hotel. 
Warm welcoming staff, many are fluent in English.  Intimate and comfortable lobby to just read and go phone free

Food & drinks. 
Pretty amazing meal paired with sake or wine.  I came with zero expectations and was blown away.  They have Kenzo wines and Juyondai sake. The super hands on owner makes the buckwheat soba and makes sure you are having a good time.  I initially thought he was the sommelier but apparently Hiroshi Minami-san is like Michelle Yeoh in everything everywhere all at once.

Fantastic ryokan only 2 hours ish from Tokyo

I have been stayed in Takinami twice. The room, onsen, food and service are excellent. The owner and staff of the hotel are very nice and you can experience modern and traditional Japanese service in Takinami. I highly recommend Takinami to all fans of Japan.👍🏻

Excellent Japanese Onsen Hotel

The Takinami is a family owned boutique hotel with a subtle blend the East and West, Classic and Contemporary. We had 3 nights there. Together with a few friends, we had a most incredible dinner at the hotel.  With extensive choices of local food sources, we enjoyed pure, elegant and most exquisite fusion dishes presented by Michelin star chef. The wine selection (we had Kenzo Wines, one white, one red)  was a very nice surprise, I would highly recommend it. The hotel owner and CEO, Mr. Hirosh Minami personally served us breakfasts, and helped us with luggages, which made our experience very humbling and unforgettable.

This is the most relaxing ryokan experience with comfort and connect with chef team through amazing dishes and the service team with passion promoting Yamahas culture and home grown vegetables and rice. You can taste a moment of silence here and enjoy the dinner and tour around. The team also sensitive to your needs and provide support and alternatives to suit your body health and special need. The staff here are nice, friendly and talk to you about their life and make the guests feel relaxed and restful. Takinami is the first place of Relux of the year 2022 for small hotel category and it is worth visiting the
people, onsen and food!!!!

Where shall I start: the most incredible onsen baths in room and outdoor, the truly mind-blowing cuisine that changes everyday, featuring Michelin-quality techniques, insanely delicious local ingredients that you can’t get elsewhere, the hyperlocal sake and wines, the most tender wagyu beef you’ll ever have, the wood logs by the fire place, the tamami lounge…it’s endless pleasure and relaxation in true hospitality that is indeed a once in a lifetime experience. 

Whether you are celebrating the happiest milestone or in need of healing from the lowest point in your life, the stay at Takenami will restore your body and soul.

The most incredible experience you can give yourself and your loved ones

The Takinami is a nice blend between tradition and modernity: located in a historic building, but featuring contemporary furniture and a clean, minimalistic interior design with attention to detail.
Upon arrival staff is rushing to your car, getting your luggage. You have various options for a welcome drink. If you wish, you can watch a traditional dance and afterwards observe how soba is made, thus check-in before 16h is recommended. Free coffee is available 24/7 and from 20h onwards you can enjoy a free selection of various Sake and liquors in the lounge area. Two bottles of water and two cans of beer are provided in your room free of charge. Staff and manager are very friendly and helpful.
However, we were negatively surprised when we learned that our room didn't have a shower due to the cold weather, which basically downgraded the experience to a stay with shared bathroom. We could switch rooms for the next night, but this fact should have been communicated at time of the booking. Make sure you book a room with indoor shower, especially during winter time!

Good concept, but choose your room carefully

If you are with a Japanese person and like Japanese culture, you'll have a great stay here. The property is very clean, the room we had was large and its outdoor hot-tub carved out of a stone. The tub was facing a picturesque Japanese-style pond. The thingst in the room was all top quality: electronics, amenities, and furniture.

The food here is very good and the chef will explain all the dishes you are eating, if you sit at the counter for dinner. The hotel makes a special effort to use the food, building materials, and reflect the culture of Yamagata Prefecture.

One of the Best in Yamagata

Recommended by a host of friends and hotel’s past guests, we stayed at ‘Yamagata The Takinami’ on 6/20/2018. We found this legendary, near 400-year-old hotel, just completed total renovation, has all the modern amenities and facilities that provides clean, spacious, comfort, convenient and even luxurious services besides its genuine Japanese ryokan’s quiet, courteous and garden-like environment. Foods are artistically and tastefully prepared with locally fresh and organic produces accompanied by famous Yamagata Beef, along with impeccable services. Their individualized onsen (hot spring) is available in each private room so that while bathing in heathy mineral water, we did enjoy overlooking a beautiful garden beneath. 

To many foreign tourists, Yamagata is a region worthy of exploration. It boasts one of the best three top beefs and the most sought-after cherry as well as oldest sake wineries, asides from its famous and popular ski resorts and historical architectures.
