Stayed there for 2 days together with boyfriend. It is indeed good location. Right in the center, around 15 minutes walk to Khan Shatyr, 5 minutes walk to the Mosque. Small shops, hairdresser right in the building ground floor. Though it does look nice from outside and considered to be "lux" apartments there are some issues that don't really comply with "lux" status. First of all issues with shower. Water keeps changing from boiling hot to cold all the time, asked service providers they admitted that this issues is in all apartments of the buildings. Our apartment were pretty dusty, the clean linen was put on a top of old dirty sheets... so wouldn't stay there anymore.

Good location and.. that's it.

I have now stayed in these apartments three times. After the first visit which I found a little difficult to get in etc, it works wonderfully. Well priced and is a full apartment. well decked out and great views. Highly recommended and feel with location and price- would not stay in another hotel again.

Plenty shops and other facilities in complex and next to complex so food and things todo not an issue.

Surprise! Great location, great rooms!

I decided to try an apartment for my second visit to Astana rather than the incredibly expensive hotels. I made the right choice.

The Northern Lights apartments are in one of the central Astana glistening tower blocks in this "Dubai without the sun" of central Asia. I'd arranged a transfer from the airport and this worked without a hitch. On arrival, I was directed to the fifth floor where I was met and shown the apartment and given the all important wi-fi codes! 

The apartment consisted of a very large sitting area with a kitchen adjacent, complete with dining table and all the necessities for day-to-day living. A large bathroom off the living area was well appointed and there was a second bathroom attached to the generously-sized bedroom that had a walk-in wardrobe complete with lightings. This second bathroom had a large corner bath which you can lie in and survey the view down to the Bayterek Tower!

Breakfast is delivered to the room - you say what time you'd like it and it's outside your front door at the appointed hour. With yoghurt, fruit, juice, tea and coffee, plus an egg dish of some sort, it's sufficient to start the day but definitely not top class hotel standard. If you want that, head out to one of the nearby shopping centres, or get your own provisions in.

My only criticism is that the curtains don't provide a complete blackout in the bedroom. There are giant TV advertising screens across the square and on the fifth floor they illuminated my bedroom throughout the night. It's something you get used to and I suspect that on higher floors it's less of a problem.

The staff will call taxis for you if, like me, you don't want to flag down a passing motorist and negotiate a trip which is the way locals work. 

Overall, I can recommend the Northern Lights.

Central, comfortable, large

You can't get more central than this. The apartments are in the 'wobbly' looking glass towers just yards away from Bayterek - the golden egg in a tree monument that's the capital's best-known landmark (and worth going into). The apartments have a great view and are on various floors - mine looked out towards the white mosque. Shopping and eating opportunities are just steps away. 

The apartments are good - one large room as a combined bedroom, living-room, dining area, with a well-equipped kitchen, and a small bathroom with washing machine. A good flat screen TV with a couple of English channels and working WiFi. The overall impression is light, airy and well-equipped. 

Where it differs from a hotel is in service. There is no reception, no signage and no real help in finding the people who run the apartments - I had to walk around a lot and ask in very broken Russian, before I was directed by a building concierge to the unmarked apartment where I could check in. 

The young woman who greeted me was pleasant, swiftly took me to the apartment and gave me some tips/instructions in good English. She offered a breakfast, which came on time the next morning, with porridge, fruit, plain omelette, tea and coffee. Nothing fancy, but a good start to the day. Checking out meant finding the unmarked staff apartment again and waiting around in the corridor outside for several minutes, not an issue but a bit primitive. 

The hotel texted me to offer a taxi from the airport when I first arrived, but it never came. I took the bus instead, which was ridiculously cheap and very interesting, but not recommended if you have anything beyond light luggage or are alone. Finding the building the apartments are in was easy, just not the apartments.

In all I liked the apartment and location a lot - and the price was very good when compared to hotels. I've stayed there twice, and see no reason not to again.

Superb location, very nice room, but not really a hotel

We booked a large 2 room, 1 br apartment in the Northern Lights high rise complex which was on the 31st floor. It was huge, clean, and had great views. It was right next door to the Convention centre "Korme" where we were attending a trade show...which saved loads of travel time.
Most people at the show stayed in hotels across the river and paid 2 or 3 times as much for a room.
The building is a security building with an excellent supermarket just across the street in the mall (the one with IMAX in it...high end shops...great grocery store..unlike much of Astana).
You can see from the photos on the www.apartamenty.kz website that there are many to choose from...some more modern than others. We stayed with a small child and would definitely stay here again as having all that space was a bonus.
Some light construction work going on in the lobby...no big deal.
Payment was easy (credit card) and airport pickup/drop off service worked well.
Give the hotels a miss and stay right on the main Bayterek plaza.
