We visited here in June and it was simply the holiday of a lifetime!! Words cannot do justice to Saruni Mara. The lodges are in the most amazing setting and there is a simply brilliant team!!! We arrived and were whisked straight from the airfield onto safari with Joshua, within 5 minutes we were in a field surrounded by giraffes! Our guide Joshua was fabulous, he could see animals from miles away, and his knowledge of the area and animals was truly amazing. We had lunch by a river of hippos and crocs-lunches outdoors were wonderful we even had a mini bar. When we arrived at the lodges we were greeted by Christine and her team and made to feel so welcome like family from the minute we met, The lodges were lovely, clean and the hot water bottle at night was a welcome addition as we were snug til morning. The food and drinks were outstanding and all served by a brilliant team with James and Johnston looking after us at dinner and Jane’s teaching us his astronomy knowledge! I’m not sure I have the words to articulate what a truly special place this is visit ❤️

Wow-amazing dream holiday!

This lodge is awesome!  Such a cool setting in the hills with amazing views of the mara.  The staff were incredibly attentive and the service was top notch!  Johnston and the rest of the team were so helpful!  Our guide, Tinka, was so knowledgeable and experienced and willing to answer any questions we had.  He has an incredible eye for wildlife.  There are only 6 rooms (plus a family villa) which makes this lodge an intimate exeperience.  Also, the food here is out of this word good!  Compliments to the chef!  Would definitely recommend this lodge if you are planning a visit to the Mara North Conservancy.

Glad we chose Saruni Mara!

Our trip:
Saruni Mara was one of two camps we stayed at during our trip to the Masai Mara area. The goal for our trip was to experience two different conservancies.

Service: 
The highlight of the stay was James. He has a remarkable story about starting his employment at the lodge and is one of the longest-tenured staff at Saruni Mara. He was kind, gracious, and did a wonderful job taking care of us and making our dinners feel extra special.

Jennifer was also conscious of our dietary needs and did a great job of making sure we were attended to during our meals.

Our driver Joshua was a good driver and knowledgeable guide with a good understanding of animal behaviours and how to spot game in action in the wild and is still growing his skills as a guide. Our situation was a bit unique as we had already spent 2 days at another conservancy and saw most of the main animals at the previous camp. Overall he did his best to find us exciting action on the game drives. We got to see a cheetah during daylight which was high on our list of things to see, and he also set us up to witness an elephant herd of 34 up close and personal, which ended up being one of the highlights of our safari trip. He also spotted a Thompson Gazelle giving birth.

Accommodations:
This was the biggest reason for the drop in score. The photos of the honeymoon accommodation were accurate but did not account for the age and wear over the years. For example, the door leading to the balcony was not easy to open and close. The lock mechanism on the balcony door was old and hard to close easily. It took some maneuvering to lock it. The sheet on the balcony bed was also showing age from the sun and showed wear, as did the throw cover on the bed but the place was kept clean and comfortable. One thing to note is that the lodge is 30 minutes away from the Lemek Conservancy entrance. 

The food was good overall. We had coffee and tea with biscuits served to our room during our wakeup call. The one breakfast we had at the lodge was a classic breakfast with eggs, sausage, baked beans, fresh fruit and toast. The lunch we had on our game drive was a cucumber salad, fresh fruit, grilled chicken, pasta and orange juice. Dinners were beef and fish and the desserts were great, in particular the lemon cheesecake.

The Vehicle:
We used an open-sided Land Rover during our stay. Joshua, our guide, mentioned that it was because it handled the rain and mud better but the vehicle did show it's age. There was nothing wrong with the vehicle, but you could see the wear and tear on the vehicle.

Overall our experience at this lodge were positive and the staff were very friendly and nice.

Lovely Stay at in the Mara North Conservancy

Saruni Mara was nothing less than perfect! The staff were amazing and Tinka, our guide was wonderful! His sense of humor and knowledge made our trip so memorable! The camp was beautiful, villas were clean and the food was good. Sundowners were the best with Tnka!

Perfect stay!

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Saruni Mara, every day was a new adventure! The setting is stunning, beautiful rooms looking onto the conservancy. The staff we were extremely helpful and tentative. 

Our guide Tinka was the highlight of our trip. His knowledge and understanding of the animals and area was incredible. We loved his laid back approach, zest for life and always ensuring the good angles/lighting for the pictures. Our game drives were always packed full of action with a daily dose of lions. 

It is around a 30 minute drive from the conservancy to the lodges on a bumpy road but there is always action on the drive to and from, whether that be zebras, giraffe or the locals waving happy to see you.

We would absolutely recommend Saruni Mara for their hospitality, the beautiful rooms and the wildlife on the game drives.

Brilliant guide

My husband and I visited Saruni Mara for our honeymoon this past July and while we were only there for 3 days, we had a wonderful time! All of staff was amazing and we really enjoyed getting to spend time with Kiseme and James. They went above and beyond to ensure we had a wonderful stay! Kiseme was our guide and he let us sit in one spot for 6 hours because we wanted to see a cheetah hunt (his name is Billy). And boy, were we not disappointed! Billy FLEW after a gazelle but we waited quite a while to see it (just a friendly reminder, be patient and kind with your guides as they don't have any control over where the animals are or what types of animals you will see during your stay but they certainly do try their best to make sure you see what you want)! The room was very comfortable and all of our meals were delicious!

All around, an amazing stay and we hope to visit again someday. To Cecilia and the team at Saruni Mara, asante sana tuonane tena hivi karibuni (thank you very much, see you again soon)!

Dream Honeymoon Experience

An outstanding, luxury lodge in a conservancy adjacent to Masai Mara. The game viewing is outstanding. And because the lodge is in the conservancy, it is not overrun with too many vehicles. We saw elephants, cheetah, lion, leopard, silver back foxes and all the usual animals - giraffe, zebra, buffalo, gazelles as well as many birds. The guide was knowledgeable, the lodge is luxurious, the food is great as is the service. a superior safari.

A Superior Safari

Amazing location, stay and hospitality! I wouldn’t have hoped for anything different. The best part of Saruni lodges are the people, they make everything perfect. Food was fabulous, Italian influenced and they have a 14 day menu across all Saruni lodges which is nice if you stay at multiple locations. They have a free laundry service, which is perfect since we cannot pack a lot because of weight limitations. The cleaning staff comes in a few tomes and the room is so cozy when you get back from game drive or dinner. Except for the bumpy road from conservancy to the lodge, which Saruni has no control on, it’s literally the Kenyan highway, I would say everything else has been immaculate!

Three night stay at Mara

This is our second visit to Saruni Mara. We returned because of the amazing service, the lovely accommodations, and the incredible staff. This year we stayed for 7 nights in cottage 5, the Photographer's suite. The king size bed was amazingly comfortable and the hot water bottles on each side at night such a wonderful touch. Our laundry was taken each morning and returned every evening. Note: they provide soap in the room to wash women's undergarments, as they do not provide laundry for these. The hot water in the shower was truly hot and morning tea and coffee in the room before our game drives incredibly welcome. We would awaken to buffalo or elephant strolling through the camp, or a few zebra on the hill. Glorious. Tinka was our guide again. We asked for him specifically because he is just that good! We saw 24 lions one day, along with a leopard and her cub, a cheetah and her two cubs, a male leopard busy with his meal, and scores of elephants, giraffe, antelope, zebras, baboons, wart hogs, Cape buffalo, wildebeests, birds, and so much more. It is a true education watching Tinka observe where the Topi or giraffe are looking as we are driving down a road. Stop. Observe. Then drive over and find a leopard on the hunt. We were usually one of the first to arrive. Our breakfasts and lunches in the bush were always incredibly tasty. The chefs are incredibly accommodating to any special dietary requests. Cecilia, the manager who cared for us last year, continues to work her magic with this camp. We did not use a travel agent, just worked directly with Saruni who arranged our flights from Nairobi and had drivers with signs waiting to greet us. Everything worked incredibly smoothly. We have stayed at Saruni Samburu, twice at Saruni Mara, however, I think we are going to try Saruni Wild inside the conservancy in 2024. Think, luxury glamping, in the middle of the where everything is happening! Thank you to our Saruni Family. 

Life at Saruni Mara

If anyone asks me what they should do at least once in life, this place would be in the top group for my completed bucket list.
The people, resort, Italian food, safari and all the animals all far exceeded our expectations.  My wife and I were celebrating our 44th anniversary and stayed at the resort in early September for 3 nights.  We had previously stayed at Saruni Samburu and were pleased to learn that Saruni Mara performed at the same high standards.
The lodge was filled with breathtaking views.  We loved the amenities and the location was a very peaceful and tranquil setting..  The food was fabulous, and we especially enjoyed the Italian flare.  We had dinner in our room one night out on the patio and it was fabulous as well.
Our guide was Saruni Kisemei and he was awesome.  Everyone there thinks that they had the best guide, so maybe all of them are great.  We started off with the trip from the landing strip with seeing lots of animals.  The natural beauty of the Maasai Mara is amazing.  On our second day, we had booked the balloon ride which left early in the morning.  Our guide met us there after the balloon ride and we went to the Mara River and was able to see the Great Migration where animals were crossing the river and then drove through the herds of hundreds of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebras.  That was an amazing sight that we will never forget.  We also had picnic breakfasts and lunches while out with Kesemei.
I cannot say enough about the staff at Saruni Marra.  Everyone was extremely kind and sincerely helpful.  The entire staff was awesome, but I will name a few specifically.  The manager Cecilia was awesome.  She was always available and asking if everything was good.  Our meals were covered by Martine and he was always on top of everything and willing to help.  Our guide Saruni Kisemei was just amazing and really made our experience wonderful.
You will be very pleased if you are able to visit Saruni Mara.
