Every aspect of this experience exceeded our expectations.  The food was delicious, the staff were lovely, the setting was gorgeous, our tented rooms were glamorous and comfy and every adventure was well-planned.  The manager, Tony, was completely accommodating.  We took 2 safaris most days, 3 on a couple days.  The drivers: Simon, James and Kamal were excellent.  They were warm and kind and had so much information to share about the animals.  Two guides, both Maasai, Jeffrey and Samwel, were incredible. They knew everything about every animal.  I rode most often with Jeffrey and Simon.  Jeffrey was a wealth of information and so kind and friendly.  These men grew up here and have so much knowledge to share.  Other Maasai staff guarded us as we roamed around the facility and we enjoyed their company so much.  Dennis became my personal Swahili language coach.  I'd been learning the language for 200 days before the trip and it was delightful speaking with the staff.  The safaris were nothing short of amazing.  We were so close to lions, male and females, giraffes, leopards - somehow saw 2 elusive leopards, one out hunting during the day.  We saw hippos, hyenas, gorgeous elephants with their babies, cheetahs, jackals, elans, topis, dikdiks, crocodiles, gorgeous birds, gazelles, wildebeests, cape buffalos, impalas, monkeys, baboons, more animals than I ever imagines.  This was a trip of a lifetime and I'm so happy we experienced it at the Royal Mara.

Words can not describe how amazing our four night experience was at Royal Mara.  From the facilities, the food and the staff, despite the excellent reviews, they exceeded our expectations.   Reasons to go--first, the Mara North Conservancy.  If you are looking at other locations, ask the following:  Is the park large enough to spend several days, can you drive off road, can you do night safaris and can you do safari walks?  From what we heard, these are not common traits at other parks.  Why Royal Mara? While the rooms and common areas were extremely nice, comfortable and scenic, it was the people who really made our trip.  A special thanks to Anna, Gilbert, Kamel and Samwell for making this trip so special.  This place, and these people, will forever be in our hearts and memories.

We stayed at the Royal Mara for 4 nights from 4th July. Our stay was perfect and we would not hesitate to recommend here to anyone including our family and friends. The grounds and lodge were beautiful and well looked after. Our neighbours the hippos and monkeys were great to watch from our room and at meal times. However without doubt the best part of the Royal Mara is their staff. Everyone we met was very friendly, seemed to genuinely care about us and how our day had been and we felt very safe and welcomed. We can not thank them enough and will miss them. Thank you to the team for a wonderful stay, the packed lunches were much appreciated :) Hayley

Amazing Lodges with Amazing Staff

As Tony the manager said when we arrived.. “Welcome Home”. 
We recently stayed here and felt so welcome by all the staff who did an incredible job. We would stay again here with no hesitation. The staff are a small but highly effective team that make everyday as comfortable and special as the last.
In response to the weird negative review recently. Your room comes with a large safe that you are introduced to on arrival, they should have used it. It fit all my belongings including a laptop. However, one day we left it open all day whilst on safari with cash totally visible and nothing was taken. I find it so so hard to believe that this wonderful small team would take anything and to give this wonderful place 1 star whilst they are still clearly trying to rectify the situation with you is such poor behaviour. My hunch is you lost the cash and blamed everyone else.
Anyway rant over. Wonderful place, wonderful people. Don’t hesitate to book.

Welcome Home

They say God visits everywhere but He Lives in Africa ️ 
This place was by far the most amazing place we have had as a family of 5 with three teenage kids. Safari’s and Moore booked this for us and did we ever have a good time … it is a true Safari and we saw so much in 5 days and felt like FAMILY - all the staff is so welcoming and such genuine smiles happy to see you and accommodate you. My youngest son Stevie 14 made an amazing friendship with Maasai Guide and become best friends they both had a connection that I have never seen. We left a piece of our heart there and took so much home with us by time spent with staff and guides - I say you do not want to pass on staying here and the food was off the charts and service 6 Stars with the best Safari guides and lodge staff felt right at home and safe even that we needed to be escorted to the dinning table as Hippos are around and the staff keeps you safe by walking with you to and from dinner or early and late Safari rides. Don’t pass up this place I tell you it will be the best Safari / Local feel that you have ever experienced!

By far the best place I've stayed at! The service is incredible, the food is amazing and the whole team made us feel right at home from day one.
 
Located just by Mara River, you can watch the hippos swim in the river during the day and hear them roam around the compound during the night. What a magical experience! 

Our tour guide James made every game drive so special! We even had a picnic together during one game drive, an amazing experience we will never forget! Thank you so much for your excellent service during our stay, dear team of Royal Mara! We will definitely be coming back!

Incredible service, amazing food and comfortable lodges just by Mara River - this camp is very special 

So the Royal Mara is expensive. But you won't regret staying here. It is spectacular. There are only nine lodges - so it is a very personal, very exclusive place to stay. The lodges are exquisite. They are high specification tents built on solid wooden platforms with decking and a view over the Mara River. And I can't begin to describe how gorgeous they are. They will blow you away. Truly. No one could fail to love this place. At night the hippos roam outside the lodges and you can hear them grunting and bumping .  If you want a real safari experience in a 5-star camp I couldn't recommend anywhere better. 

Fabulous - a perfect place to stay

Amazing and would highly recommend to anyone going to Masai Mara!!! My husband and I spent a few days here for our honeymoon and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Everyone there makes you feel very well taken care of. The rooms are beautiful, very spacious and next to a river of hippos. We even saw a zebra and giraffe walking from across our room. They have someone walk you to and from your room so you feel very safe, especially at night. Good food and they accommodated my dietary preferences and allergies. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive to whatever we needed. We mostly communicated with Anna during our stay there and she put a lot of effort to make sure we were always comfortable there. Simon was our guide during our tour and he was fantastic - we saw all the animals! He was very knowledgeable and put the time in making sure we were having a great experience. We are grateful for everyone there. Really amazing service and would stay here again. Cannot recommend it enough

Our three night stay at the Royal Mara was a fantastic safari experience.  We had James as our guide for the entire stay and seven game drives.   He was an excellent guide and we saw over 45 different types of wildlife, including lions, cheetahs, elephants, etc,   The great benefit of the Masa Mari is that the guides can drive cross country and get you very close to the wildlife.   The accommodations, food and service were all excellent.   If you are going a safari in Kenya, the Royal Mara will provide the best possible value and experience.

Excellent Stay at Royal Mara Safari Lodge, Kenya

I had read so many wonderful reviews of this lodge and was so excited to stay here for our honeymoon in September 2022. I was in touch with Maxwell  in November 2021 who was very helpful and responsive. We were able to reserve our room with some extras since it was our honeymoon. We sent him a $1000+ deposit and were confirmed for 3 nights. All of this was fortunately in writing (email) and paid by credit card. 
Fast forward to September 2022. We were in Kenya for 2 weeks and Royal Mara was our last stop. With all of the wedding chaos, I overlooked that Royal Mara had not confirmed the time for our airport transfer. We began to contact them 3 days before we were due to stay and forwarded them all of our flight details. We called, emailed, had our tour company call them, all to no avail. The night before our stay, someone answered the phone, but then hung up and never picked up again. We continued to try to reach them until the day of, at which point we began frantically calling/emailing a number of lodges we had previously contacted. Availability was scarce but we were able to secure a tent for triple the price of Royal Mara. At this point we were desperate, so had to accept what we could get. 
After a lot of pressure from our local tour operator, Royal Mara responded on the last day of our stay. They were mildly apologetic once we provided them our reservation confirmation email and paid deposit info.  They agreed to reimburse us the deposit and asked us to provide our bank information so they could wire us. We provided them the details in the beginning of October 2022 and they have not refunded us as of Feb 2023. We have followed up numerous times but they are not responding to our messages. 
Fortunately, the back up stay in Mara was AMAZING, so it worked out. But Royal Mara could have ruined our honeymoon. We lucked out with finding a place that had a last minute cancellation. Although it was at a significantly higher cost.
So while we cannot comment on the actual resort since we were unable to stay there,  I am rating Royal Mara based on the service we received and the fact that they are refusing to give us our money back.
