Amazing place. Very friendly staff and pro-active, they made us really feel welcome. The rooms are very clean and spacious. Timothy helped us with a great night safari and arranging mountain bikes. The food is great and with the full board arrangement we have enjoyed the Kenyan kitchen. Would definitely go here again.

Amazing place

Terrible to say the least. Right from the gate everyone seems sad and the mood around isn’t welcoming. The waiters are unfriendly and despite making several calls asking for direction none came. We had to wait for 2 hours after placing the order and to our dismay, some of the meals came later after we were almost done. The food is overprised and the platter is a few pieces of red and white meat mixed together. I was shocked to see the waiter divide a piece of sausage among the 5 platters we ordered. A plate of fries goes for kshs. 600 and the platter is ksh.4500. I feel that on this day, the establishment wasn’t adequately prepared because we did not get enough seats and no one seemed bothered. It also seems they are short of utensils and cutlery because I could see glasses being shared across. What a waste of Ksh.31,000 and thanks to this place, my Christmas is ruined. I cannot return and neither can I recommend this establishment to anyone

Terrible Experience

The drive to the resort was full of animals; wildebeests, hyenas, zebras, giraffes. 
When I got to the gate I was underwhelmed but opinion changed when I got in to the establishment. 
The view of the pool and from the pool is magnificent. 


Getaway from CBD

Food took a solid 2.5 hours to come and our total bill came to 17,400; 2 kienyeji chicken 5,600, 2kg Mbuzi which wasn’t all that 5,000, 3 lovely potato wedges 900, 2 spinach 400, 4 fries 1,200, sausages 400, 3kids below 3 swimming 900, 1 child 8yrs 500, 7 sodas 700, 6 beers 1800.... not worth it and service was sloppy. Not coming back for sure

Overhyped

My family and I waited for our order for 3 hours only to discover that the order had never been placed in the kitchen. The staff kept asking us to be more patient for just 8 minutes and when we got fed up we engaged the manager who admitted that the order was seemingly not placed or had been issued to other customers. I had in my company, ladies who were breastfeeding and another who was expectant. 

We also had to chase down the waiters to get seats despite having made reservations and to get the bill for our drinks. What a disappointment on Christmas Day!

Surely, at a time when establishments are expecting a surge in the number of clients, they should put measures in place to ensure quality customer service!

3 hour wait for a meal that never came

Beyond beautiful. Everything from the staff to the luxury accommodations were beyond words. Amazing is a perfect word. 
Welcomed with smiles and lots of help, serene environment.
The food was beyond great.
A separate "hut" looking accommodation, you can see in their photos, was so clean, so comfortable.
We could walk outside the grounds alone, with a nice map from the staff.
Greeted by the owner at dinner and when we left. 
Perfect [place for a get away or for us a place to stop between parks and game drives that allowed us to really relax.

A piece of heaven near Nairobi

Warmly and invitingly received by Francis - who served as "concierge and Maitre D' which is quite surprising considering the place seems like it can only comfortably accommodate 10 to 15 people max. Others that we met - Esther, Peter, Barasa, Ezekiel - all received us with a genuine warmth that we saw also extended to each other. 

Food was excellent. The three course dinner menu while preset, was finely chosen, carefully cooked and very well presented - even a fine choice of wine was on hand - a five star experience where we had not expected it. 

Accommodation was a delight. Our rondavel (guesthouse) was designed to Western taste and comfort... yet it didn't steal thunder from the beautiful panoramic view of the area. In fact the whole design of the site makes nature the "star of the show".    

... and well situated too. It was both a stop over point for us as we traveled between Masaai Mara National Park to the West (5 hours drive - 250 km - from Sekenani Gate) and our next destination, Amboselli National Park's Kimana Gate to the Southeast (4 hours drive - 200 km -  from Amazing Kenya Retreat).  ..... and a last stop prior to heading off to the airport for our return home (45 minutes - 42 km). A leisurely walk around the area allowed us to take in zebra, wildebeest, and antelopes ... a very fitting end to our stay in Kenya.

.. though a bit tricky to find if you're on your own. Locating it on Google Maps to get GPS coordinates would be a good investment of one's time - might even add to the adventure of finding this "getaway".

An absolute delight to have stayed here....

Amazing Kenya Retreat (AKR) is tucked away somewhere in the quiet hotbed of romance and tranquility. Driving to AKR is quite an experience, with small and creatively crafted stones providing direction along the way, one gets a thrilling experience site seeing before arriving at the AKR. The AKR is a small facility and ideal for people who value and need privacy, as well as for family re-unions, engagement parties, romantic getaways and many other events of a personal nature.

Arriving at AKR, you are warmly received by Francis who is at the front desk with Barasa giving a hand to ensure you are settled in. An apple juice to usher you into the facility is on hand as you register and check-in. Well, for me the rondavel is an experience, it just feels warm and inviting to check-in and jump on your bed in the rondavel. They are neat and well arranged, with panoramic views to the plains. Everything else is well organized and properly coordinated - meal times etc. Make a point of staying at the rondavels at the Amazing Kenya Retreat!

The lodge is set in Maanzoni area.
It is a nice surprise.
The booking process was pleasant. 
We were received by polite staff who were very eager to help.
Got cold towels and juice before we were briefed on meal times.
We were shown to the room which is a lovely rondavel. It was very nice and simply decorated for our arrival. 
I enjoyed the food, was like having a home cooked meal each meal time.
I enjoyed every bit of my stay at Amazing Kenya and was sad to leave.
Hope to be back for another R & R weekend/getaway.
