I usually stay in budget places but decided to splurge over christmas. My driver booked this hotel in my behalf and for two nights over christmas for a family of 4 came up to a whopping $700us dollars.. when I got there and checked in i noticed they gave us 2 rooms. 1 would have been enough as our room had 1 double bed and 1 single bed. Anyways I got over that as it was not the hotel's fault but my driver. The hotel and staff are absolutely fantastic. The first night we saw 2 leopards. Eating the meat they left out for them abd chasing each other. It is such a great base for exploring Tsavo west. having visited nearly all the parks in Kenya I can say hands down Tsavo west is my favourite.. the most scenic and so many animal viewing opportunities.. Mzima springs are an absolute delight. The food and facilities at the lodge are amazing! Stagf go above and beyond to help you. Special shout out to Dennis our waiter who took such great care of us. I highly reccomend this place as I feel it gives you a fantastic experience. I would make sure and check though if you are a family of 2 adults and 2 toddlers like us that only 1 room is needed

Best place to stay when visiting Tsavo West

We stayed there in june 2022 for 1 night we had a fantastic time up close to the animal's at the water hole. The staff was very accommodating and very helpful, the food was very nice. We didn't see the leopard but we did see a hyena. Overall a lovely place and will be staying there again on our next visit to Kenya. 

A great safari lodge

After around 3 years of CoVid induced break, we have now been again in Ngulia Safari Lodge.  And it still is (and remains) our favourite Lodge in Tsavo West. 

Maybe, there are more luxury Lodges around, but those are also much more expensive. 

But what is the main reason for visiting such Lodges, not only 5 stars luxus, but instead (and much more important) a great experience of the nature. The views from Ngulia Safari Lodge into the landscape are so exciting, the proximity to animals and their waterhole as well, the staff friendly and obliging, and the level of comfort very good.

We spent 2 night there and I would recommend this strongly compared to only 1 night.  It is fully worth to stay there with some patience to enjoy the views ,instead of hurrying up with only one overnight

Overall for us the best Lodge in Tsavo West

We got to Ngulia Safari Lodge using Mtito Andei Gate which is approximately a 50km drive. The staff were very welcoming, and the views from the lodge are amazing! Because of the rain, we didn't see animals visit the waterhole although we did see leopards and buffalos at night. Considering the lodge was opened in 1969, the rooms are simple and well-maintained with the balcony facing the park. There is no network or Wi-Fi in the room which is okay as all you need is peace with yourself and nature :) We didn't have any issue with power as the generator was on throughout.
We enjoyed the food as there was a good variety for vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Because of the rain, there were a lot of dung beetles flying all over at night, if you aren't paranoid then you just have to be careful they don't enter your room. The Rhino Sanctuary isn't far away from the lodge, we didn't see any rhinos but we were lucky to see almost 25 African Wild Dogs. 
We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the lodge, and will definitely go back again!

A nice lodge with amazing views

The room confort is simple but effective. Like in most lodges, there's no power (and therefore no Wi-Fi) during the day. So here or elsewhere, don't forget your external battery ;) and/or a book ! That being said, the staff is really nice and helpful. The food is good and the bedding confortable. The experience with animals is unbelievable here. The panoramic terrace is the place to be at any time of the day ! In one single night in this logde, I had seen 3 of the Big 5 : Leopard, elephants and buffalos ! I also saw a hyena and baboons. And all the rooms have a balcony directed to the ponds and the meat tree to see animals even when you're in your room. Great great experience ! I strongly recommand this lodge.

Great experience !!

Safari is an adventure that will be remembered for a lifetime. Agree, there are many nuances and it is very important that at this moment there is a reliable and experienced guide nearby. In this we were very lucky with Simon. In an amazing way, he combines the qualities of erudition, excellent driving, patience and good mood. He felt and predicted our desires. Thanks to his professionalism and NGULIA SAFARI LODGE, our 4-day trip was breathtakingly bright and comfortable, leaving a deep pleasant experience. Thank you, I want to come back to you again and again!

every day is unique

If its Leopards you want to see then Ngulia is the place to go. The lodge puts out bait to attract them, and usually it works, unfortunately not when we were there, the Leopard never showed however this might have had something to do with the untimely arrival of a Spotted Hyena. However we did see 2 elusive leopards whilst there. Ngulia Lodge is a busy lodge as it is a stop over for those visiting Amboseli, This means its well warn in the nicest possible sense. The Rooms are comfortable, the Food is Good, the staff friendly and the views from the rooms spectacular.

Leopards home

The lodge is inside the park and this is a great advantage.
You go easily on to the Game Drives and don't loose any time.
Around the property you can see always animals, such as Elephants and baboons. The lodge has a special spot for leopards, usually they place a piece of meat and if you are luck the leopard will come to eat at night.
We were lucky on the 2nd night, and we saw 2 leopards fighting over the meat.
The restaurant area is very large and you get to sit and relax and watch wild life.
Pool area is also nice and has a cool viewing point.
Our room had an incredible view as well.
Staff was very friendly.

I think the lodge could improve a few things. The room only had 1 plug to charge the phones, so they could add extension cords.
It was quite hard to charge all phones and camera because of that. Also because electricity was not on during the night.
Hot water was available only a few hours at night.
It would be amazing if they installed sun heaters, as the place has plenty of sun.
Some bulbs were burned in the room, which is also something easy to keep an eye on and fix.
The bathroom was too dark, I think it could be added light.

Nice place

I’ve had to edit my earlier 5 star review of this hotel as I have learned from our driver that the driver’s quarters are poor. We had a fantastic time watching elephants at the waterhole right in front of our room. However, our driver was cold and couldn’t sleep in a room with no windows. This is not acceptable given the hard driving the guides have to do here. What a shame as the setting for this place is stunning.

We got to Ngulia Safari Lodge (NSL) in Tsavo West National Park through the Mtito Andei Gate. The lodge is about 50Km from the gate with better access routes.
In fact, traveling in the park on route to the lodge is made easier by the signage generally located at the intersections of access routes. We got into the park at around 5 pm and thus we were blessed to observe numerous wild animals such the enormous elephants, giraffes, lesser kudus, dik-diks, and gazelles. Driving through the bumpy roads with the many zebras was a pleasant experience. 

The lodge is in a stunning site, not far from Mzima Springs, the park's most famous attraction (a spectacular ecosystem that is a home to hippos, fish, and crocs).
You may go on a wonderful guided safari walk here, as well as experience the spring water gushing from the stones. Rhino Sanctuary, Shetani Caves, Chaimu Lava Flows, and Kichwa Tembo are among the other attractions.

From the rooms and the café, the lodge offers excellent views of animals (Elephants, Buffalos, and Leopards). This is the place to be if you truly want a wildlife encounter that includes elephants and a breathtaking view of a leopard while enjoying your dinner at the restaurant.

The staff is friendly and helpful. The buffet is well-stocked with high-quality food options. The rooms are standard but well-equipped. You will enjoy hot showers, but only at predetermined times; remember, this is a wilderness lodge. This is a lovely spot to spend time with family, friends, and relatives. The location will not disappoint wildlife enthusiasts! We will definitely visit again.
