It is fairly good with new management with coffee/tea with cakes. The room is clean. Front rooms are good with nice view. Quiet and peaceful morning for good walk. Balcony is good place for drinking before the sunset. 

New management 

We paid for a room with a balcony and river view, but were given a room at  the back of the hotel with no view whatsoever.  However, they did change our room when we pointed this out.
 We had to ask for clean towels etc. daily as our rooms were never cleaned at all while we were there.  We took our rubbish bin down to reception because it was overflowing and were told to just dump it on the floor at reception and someone would pick it up later.  One morning I asked for coffee and was told that there was nobody there who could make coffee!!   When we booked we were told there was a restaurant but we did not see any sign of one whilst there.
The location was good but the service was the worst I have experienced ever....

Terrible Service

Stayed here in early August, booked with Agoda.
No trouble getting there from the Airport, taxi knew place well.
Check in smooth. Room was good, had to turn A/C on for a while and lelave the room, but expect that in many Lao hotels. Breakfast is a fairly basic buffet, but it fills the tank.
Location is where this guest house wins out, it's on the boardwalk beside the Mekong, and the food stalls of an evening are a big winner. 
Wifi was adequate, but a bit weak on my floor, as the modem was a level below.
All in all, a good stay.

Location is the key

Good points. Clean room air conditioning quiet and nice view. Breakfast just about edible choice of three things well two that most people would try not so sure about spicy soup for breakfast. The staff not helpful at all. They were building a new restaurant so that might make a better addition in the future. A long way from the town. The only thing to do was eat on the river front which is nice in the evening. You can sort of walk along the river front but you need to dodge the restaurants. Basically fine place to stay but 40$ a night. What were they thinking. Not value for money. All the guest houses along the Mekong here were this expensive. You could pop next door to the riverside hotel and take a swim for £1. That was the highlight of staying in this guesthouse. It's far far far too overpriced. 

Rip off

Small hotel along the road on the Laos side of the Mekong River.  (they say they are a guest house, not a hotel - perhaps due to their small size with only 6 rooms.)  We spent 2 nights there in Feb 2015.  Rooms are very small, but the mattress was pretty comfortable, not rock hard like most less expensive places.  Had some trouble figuring out the air conditioning switches, but worked pretty well when on.  As usual the air conditioning shuts off  when you are not in the room.  TV had a few English speaking channels for viewing with typical American shows.  (Most of the Thai hotels I've stayed at do not have English channels).  By the way, my Thai sim card cell phone did not work in Vientiane, even though it worked great just across the Mekong River in Thailand. Rate per night was reasonable, about $40 US.  They prefer getting paid with Thai baht or dollars and will take some credit cards if you can wait for it to get processed through the system. The place is right across the street from a series of outdoor restaurants overlooking the Mekong River. Good food and drinks, but a little expensive. A breakfast was included in our rate, you get a voucher from the front desk and go next door to an adjoining hotel.  The breakfast was good, a choice of three menus: a rice dish, or eggs with sausage, or a sort of egg omelet.  Both of the egg versions were quite good. Also came with orange juice and coffee.

Not sure if this is typical, but we had a long wait at the Laos border getting a visa and processing through their system.  There were lots of people in lines, but only a few clerks reviewing the paperwork.  Based on our experience, expect around a 2 hour plus wait or so to get the visa and through the gate to Laos. Maybe its worth it as the visa does look good in the passport.
