We had a very pleasant stay at the Straits Heritage at Armenian street. The antique house has two suites, we stayed at the front side. We had a double bed and a small attic with two single beds, which the kids loved. The rooms were simple but clean. No others were staying, so we basically had the whole house to ourselves. That was really nice with two kids, who made good use of the space for playing.  Bathroom facilities are simple but clean. You can still see the original layout of the house, and many ancient details are still preserved. The owner mr. Tee is very friendly and helpful. No breakfast is served, and we missed information in the room about which restaurants (and where on the map) serve breakfast early in the morning. That would be a nice addition. The price is very reasonable. We loved our stay here.

charming place in the center of Georgetown

With the 130 ++years building staying at its suites under USD 100 per night we have a wonderful day... with all the attractions within walking distance it's a place to go....feel staying at home...you will your privacy... a stay with 5 stars experience...thanks mr. Tee for the pleasure staying there

Wonderful and worth the value

This was a stunning 3-story house, with a tiled foyer and handcrafted wooden beams/walls/ceilings throughout. There are just two apartments, one on the second and one on the third floor (the latter is a bit nicer). The location is very central, in old Georgetown. The owner greeted us upon arrival and saved us a parking space in front of the Chinese temple across the street.

This so called hotel or guest house only has 2 rooms. Phoenix suite on the 3rd floor, suits a couple and Peony suite locates on the 2nd floor, caters to a family of 4 or more. Outside the Peony suite, it has a living and dining area which are open to everyone staying in the hotel.  WIFI, water dispenser and fridge are provided.  It is nice to come back to the hotel after a tiring day and sit at the living area, read a book, on your iPad and relax. Privacy was not an issue since we were the only ones staying in the hotel.  And I think it would not be of any problem if there is a couple staying upstairs. I think it bothers them more if a family with young children staying downstairs. But then again, you should not be staying indoor most of the day.
The shower area and the toilet are located outside the room near the dining area. The hotel is clean since daily housekeeping is provided. But towels are not changed every day unless you asked for it. Beware of the steep steps that require one to climb up and down to the 2nd room (2 twin beds). This does not suit elderly person but children will think that is fun to do so. This suite is a loft with high ceiling. Therefore, it is difficult to cool down both rooms in the suite or the living area. It may feel warm to some people especially during the extreme warm weather. Because of the wooden floor and the humidity of the surroundings, it tends to smell in the room and the bathroom.  Another problem is the early morning noise from the mosque during the weekdays and passing motorcycles since the room is just beside the small road. Else, the location is actually quite quiet. The room is slightly bright in the morning since there is no curtain at the window. Thus, it may affect your sleep. Nevertheless, the hotel is located in a good location, convenient to all restaurants, shopping malls, money changers and attractions.  For convenience, we used the transport provided by Tee. He has been helpful to us and advise on what to do and where to dine.  In Penang, most of the taxis do not run by meter. So rather than negotiating over the price, it is better to arrange your own transport beforehand.
For an inn or a guest house, this place is pretty alright. Whatever negatives I had mentioned, this place is worth to try if you are not bothered by it.

Suits family on budget

The accommodation at Straits Heritage is wonderful. Clean, comfortable and well decorated. It's a beautiful house that is shared into 2 apartments which are both very private. We stayed in the Peony Suite which has a great view, but some very steep steps to the 2nd bedroom! The street has to be the prettiest in Penang - everyday when we left our house people stopped to admire it.
Would definitely stay again. The owner is a lovely man and very helpful.
