We booked a room at the love lane 56 through Expedia, everthing prepaid. I was really looking forward to our stay with some high expectations, but once we arrived the owner said he doesnt work with the Expedia website only with booking.com, so he doesnt  have our reservation. Apparently the previous management worked with expedia, but not anymore. So we don't know who's fault it really is, but the worst part was that the man was just laughing with it, saying already 4 people came only today with a 'wrong' reservation. No help was offered or whatever. Luckily next door number 54 had a room free so we didnt have you move very far. Working in hospitality, more specific in a hotel, I am really dissapointed in this and woudnt recommed to stay here.

Disappointed + Dont book through Expedia!!

On Love Lane next to Love Lane Inn and 2 shops down from a new massage parlor, Casablanca was one of the more interesting hostels.  They were trying to be a bit different in offering free bottled water in a wine bottle (make it look fancy)

I decided to stay one more night in Penang.  So I decided to try something new and this place was close enough.  

28 RM with all taxes for fan room.  33 baht for air cond room.

Stuff that could be improved:

- I wish their price included GST tax.  It was actually 28RM vs 25RM.   I noticed this because I stayed at several other hostels in the area and they all quoted the full price; just felt like a cheap shot.

So an air cond dorm would be 33RM

- the fan mixed dorm is on the street side, so the noise from the bar/karaoke below could annoy you sometimes.  It does help that the room is elevated on the 2nd (3rd) floor.
I almost gave them 4 stars, but then I figured the extra safety measure was good idea.

- the bed was squeaky.  I tried to move very slowly, but that makes it worse.  Just make complete movements as there is no way around the squeak unless they add lithium grease or joint grease around the squeaky areas.  I'm very surprised no one has caught this yet.

- locker key locks are a bit flimsy.  You have to press them into the keyhole quite a bit for them to work.

- leave the grilled door open during the day.  They locked it when someone had to go upstairs to clean.  I'm not sure if that was normal or just because he was short staffed.

Fruit breakfast was good though. 

Air cond bunk might have been better - Casablanca Inn

Stayed in a 4 bed mixed dorm room, was clean and comfortable except the one bunk that was extremely wobbly and squeaky! The shared showers and toilets are clean just a little small. Never got breakfast so can't comment on that but when we told the lady we would be checking out early (before breakfast started) she did offer to make us it anyway which was nice.

Attracts a good crowd. Some beds are a bit noisy in general. Overall great stay and relaxing ambience - I enjoyed the common room area and music. It's also a place that's quiet at night. If you're into partying, it's literally right at Chulia street. So you're steps away from the main nightlife in Penang. the staff will help you with anything - good people!

Hot showers, good WiFi, friendly helpful staff, comfy beds, and a cheap bar and restaurant what more can you ask for!

Friend and I stayed last month, they were very accommodating. Stayed in a dorm room with fans which was fine since there were 3. Free breakfast is always a plus. My friend and I stayed out all night the guy at reception said he would wake up no matter what the time to let us in. We didn't want to bother him at 4am so we stayed with friends and when we returned midday the next day they still kindly offered us some of the free breakfast even though we were a couple hours late. 

Great value for your money!
