This is my fifth trip to Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As usual, I decided to stay near Jonker Street, the Chinatown of Melaka. This time, I had chosen Quayside Hotel as I wanted to experience a stay near the river.

Upon alighting at Melaka Sentral Bus Station, I took Panorama Bus No. 17 at its Domestic Bus Terminal. It costs RM2 per person. The journey took about 20mins and I alighted outside Stadhuys, which is a short 5mins walk to Quayside Hotel.

I had booked a Premier Queen Room for a two nights stay and was accommodated in Room No. 204. The room has a balcony which offers a view of the Melaka River. During the morning, it is relaxing to sit at the balcony and enjoy the tranquilness of the river and its surroundings. By night, the riverside is good for crowd-watching. It can get lively and a little noisy as it is just a stone’s throw away from the Melaka River Cruise Jetty.

The room measures 21 square metres and Is comfortable for two guests. On the other hand, the bathroom is a little small whereby there is no partition separating the shower area and the wash basin. Hence, the bathroom floor gets wet each time after a shower. Even after switching on the water heater switch, the shower is lukewarm.

The hotel provides the basic room amenities such as dental kit, shower gel, shampoo, shower cap, hand soap, hair dryer, electric kettle, mini fridge, coffee, tea and drinking water. There is no electronic safe.

I had no major issues with the Wi-Fi network during my stay here, though it is a little weak at the balcony area. TV entertainment is limited to selective cable channels such as CNBC, Cinemax & Boomerang (Cartoon network).

The room has poor sound insulation. Kids running and the dragging of chair in the neighbouring room can cause some disturbance. So it depends entirely on who your neighbours are. However, I understand that this hotel is housed at the site of an old customs warehouse. As the hotel is of an industrial warehouse theme, the design and build of the rooms do not offer good soundproof walls.

This hotel has been operating since 2013 and I believed there has been no major refurbishment. The room condition needs to be better maintained and I would recommend the management to consider renovating the property.

Whilst the room is not perfect, the stay experience was elevated by the friendly Front Desk Staff. The Housekeeping Staff also cleaned the room well.

My room comes with hotel breakfast service. It is located on the ground floor and starts from 8.30am to 10.30am. I am pleasantly surprised at its offerings which although simple, is rather delicious. The menu comprises of rice (Nasi lemak or fried rice), noodles or bee hoon, eggs, hotdogs, curry puffs, cakes and hot beverages like coffee and tea. Other than the breakfast area, there are no facilities in this hotel.

The main advantage of staying at Quayside Hotel is its prime location. It is situated right next to the Water Wheel and the nearby old Dutch buildings. As a guide, here are the walking distances to the following attraction sites:

2. Jonker Street (Chinatown) - 260m
3. Christ Church Melaka - 270m
4. Stadthuys - 280m
5. Menara Taming Sari - 350m
6. Melaka Duck Tours - 400m
7. A Famosa - 550m

If you are planning to be out of your room the entire day and just using this place for sleep, you can consider your stay here. After all, its location and affordable rate are the best selling points of this property. Do manage your expectations and it is going to be a fine stay here.

 (っ▀¯▀)つ Watch The World Go By In Your Balcony Room

I am writting this review currently seated at the hotel's lobby. Arrived at 2.05pm and was told that check in is only at 3pm. Don't understand whyhave to be so rigid. No flexibility at all. Saw hotel cleaning staff entered a FEW rooms which are all empty but yet they make guests sit at the lobby instead of having the room. Only pro is hotel is close to lots of attractions. Just once is enough for me. 

NO FLEXIBILITY AT ALL!!

Near Jonker. 5mnt walking distance. Near afamosa, dataran Pahlawan, near H&m. At night u can walk along the river. Bought some food and enjoying eating in cafe area. Friendly staff. Clean environment. Staying in superior Queen room. Overall stay is OK, only no hot water inside the room.

Staff were super friendly and accommodating which is really good. Location is the best as it is right beside the river and near the jonker street. Room is superb as seen on the pictures. View is just amazing outside the room especially at night.

Near city centre, hard rock cafe, taming sari & some shopping mall. But limited parking space with 1st come 1st serve.

Nice view 

QuaySide Hotel in Melaka by far is not the best hotel in Melaka. It is only in between 3-4 Star Hotel rating and does not have many features of good new hotels springing all around the city such as DoubleTree, Ramada Plaza or even Ibis.

But what makes it special is its location which is even better than the 5-Star Casa Del Mar on the opposite side of the river. QuaySide has a beautiful view of the river with Casa Del Mar as its backdrop. The river cruise departing point is at the corner.

Most major tourist attractions are within reach by walking. The Dutch Quarter Stadhurst in Red colour is only 5 minutes, where the clock tower is located, museum, famous cendol and items related to the Dutch. Hard Rock Cafe is also nearby and HM shopping and the famous Jonker Street is also walking distance and reachable in just 5 minutes.

The Portuguese Quarter is slightly further and can be reached by walking within 20-30 minutes where the historical gate A Formosa is located. This is where the history of Melaka begins in 1511 when it was conquered by the Portuguese and there is also Portuguese settlement.

At night the clock tower which is very near to Quayside Hotel comes alive where colourful trishaws with all kinds of music blasted are waiting for customers to have a ride and it would be a good tourist experience and you may have to bargain the price.

The passing of river cruise boats spice up the beauty of the scenary and I think after staying in many hotels around Melaka, QuaySide still has the best location.

Currently they do not serve breakfast as Halia Restaurant is undergoing renovation. Public parking is available along the side of the hotel on first come first serve basis but bigger private parking is also available next to the police station, slightly opposite the hotel. There is also handicraft centre nearby opposite the Ship Museum.

Remember, if you are staying here, it is for the location and on many other features it may not reach the expectation that is desired but location is a good compensation. The choice is yours but we do not mind the less comfort to trade off with the convinience of being located there.

QuaySide Hotel The Best Location in Melaka

Simple hotel in a great location, very close to all the night streets, market and jonker. (5mins walk). 👍🏼
Industrial style lobby with no aircon. The lobby provided no relief from the scorching heat outside. 👎🏼
Room spacious but not very clean. Toilet cleanliness must definitely be improved. 
Water was barely warm.  Although we reported this, no maintenance came to solve this. 

Our room overlooked the street and the police station.. and the sound from the colorful trishaws last till 1130pm and started as early as 6am. 

If u are going to be away the most of the day, this hotel is ok.. but u may have to compromise on a peaceful nights sleep if u are facing the roads.

Only average. Good location

Good service, good view, friendly staff. It was located at the heart of Malacca so it was very comvenient for us to go places, like the historical places and yes, the malls as well. The price range is budget friendly so I would recommend tourist to come to this hotel

Great hotel located centralised in the ❤️ of Melaka. Walking distances to malls, historic buildings to visit.
Room is small but just great for 2 pax as we took the Superior room. Better view is the Premium with riverside  view! That will be awesome as we unable to secure riverside room with balcony due to high occupancy.

Simplicity

Paid via online booking. Hotel ask for deposit, which we offered in foreign currency and they declined. After much dispute, the hotel Manager finally accepted. When we finally got to the room. It was far from the pics. Please do not believe in the pic. I had to shower half way and get out of the shower because there was no hot water. And we called 2-3 times down to the reception before someone got back to us. We booked 2 out of 3 rooms was having water issues. There was no min bar in the room. They manually went up to the rooms to check before returning the deposits and our car were already waiting. Too much delay and unhappiness on this trip. Will not book this hotel again.
