Having read some mixed reviews (mainly dated around 2016) I was a little apprehensive but we had a great experience at Villagg Tal-Fanal.

We went with a huge group of friends and hired the whole place, and it's probably one of the best holidays I've been on in memory.

The complex is arranged a central pool area, with a large, clean, and warm pool that was a delight to swim in each day. Shaded sun loungers seemed to always be available, but you're still just seconds from your apartment.

The apartments themselves are all slightly different; locations, configurations, sizes, floors, etc, but this just adds to the charm.

Some of the reviews have complained about the upkeep, but this wasn't a problem for us; perhaps it's a little quaint and some things could have been newer, but for the price, we're more than happy. Additionally, the maintenance guy came as soon as we had a problem to rectify one or two small niggles we had. High speed wifi is everywhere and while sometimes a little slow to connect, had a 130mbs speed that matches what I had at home. 

Self catering was not a problem; there's a lovely supermarket (Lighthouse) a 10 minute walk away, which we were incredibly surprised to find almost everything you could want (from food, to drink, to supplies), all very high quality, and we ate like kings every night.

The beds were really comfortable; not hard or soft, but medium. I sleep on a memory foam mattress at home and am quite picky but most nights I was asleep in seconds, and woke up every morning without any back problems. The rooms are also air conditioned, and there are duvets should the air con be too effective (which it could be!).

I would advise taking a couple of extras like a washing up brush and perhaps plastic glasses for the pool, as there is no bar and glass is not allowed. Contrary to one of the other reviews, we asked for and received toilet paper, as well as hangers, with a smile. 

Overall, a great place to stay, and highly recommended.

Enchanting and relaxing holiday complex, striking distance from the hussle and bussle

At first glance all seemed spacious & average in the 1 Bedroom Maisonette. 
When we walked in the bathroom it stunk like hell. The bath mixer & sink taps all corroded plus the shower head hardly does the job. On the whole the bathroom could be all renovated. After an hour in the place I got bad hay fever. Ceiling fans & insect screens where filthy. Extra pillows in the wardrobe where damp & stinky. One armchair had big stains too. As for the kitchen I only trusted to use the kettle & mugs.

Pool & outside area is very nice but rules are broken with people & kids playing ball & jumping in the water. Not the relaxing long weekend we needed & imagined so we left after 1 night.

Not so great

We stayed at Gozo Village for three nights and we wished we could have stayed longer🌞 It is one of the most tranquil places on the island of Gozo. We lodged in a one-bedroom Maisonette with all that we needed at hand. Communication by phone and email prior to our stay was quick and efficient. Thank you we will certainly come back.

Great retreat for weekend breaks and more

We went to this complex knowing that it was in a small village and that there were no on site facilities. Our first apartment was the ore booked one room apartment, which was as advertised but looked out over the field behind the complex.  This was great for the first day, but then the farmer decided to spread muck on the field.  The resulting stench and flies was unbearable so we asked to be moved. The manager moved us to a two bedroom apartment overlooking the pool at no extra cost. This was far superior in every way. The fridge was bigger and had a separate freezer, the toaster and kettle both worked properly and the shower head attached properly to the wall to allow a full shower. 
The pool was lovely and clean with plenty of sunbeds.

We rented a car from the supplier recommended in the welcome book. This was a mistake that we should have known to avoid. We arranged for a car to be delivered to the complex.  The rep arrived and said we needed to go with him to sign the paperwork. We presumed we were going just down the road, however we were taken to the far side of Rabbat and when we got there the car was not offered at the price given in the information pack, but was €10 a day more. We should have left it but we’re stranded in the backstreet of an unfamiliar place and had no idea how far we were from taxi or bus rank. The car was ok, but a bit small for my husband to drive and we had no other choice. 

I would definitely recommend using the local bus service instead of hiring a car. It is efficient, goes to most places on the island and is cheap if you buy a week ticket for €21. 

The complex was isolated and there was one well supplied shop about 15 min walk away who would deliver for a €50 + spend. The only restaurant was next door. Unlike Greece where we normally go, there were no tavernas in the villages, and those by the sea were expensive.  It would have been easy to use the bus in the evenings, or to do the shopping but we didn’t try that.

Quiet and rural

I’ve stayed here for 8 days and it’s in a great position , not far from town and not far from coast , the pool is the perfect temperature and you make friends in the other room, self catering was fine as the flats were well equipped and the rooms were hot but had air conditioning , I’m happy

The right place

I thank firstly the staff for their support to make my booking - they were so patient answering every email I send. We have been in several places but the village at il fanal is amazing. Although its shared, we still manage to find a lot of peace and tranquility. Place is also kept very beautiful and clean ... will recommend as a great escape with a fair cost...

The escape

I have stayed at Villagg tal-Fanal , at least 5 times now, and re booked for this September.  The complex is very nice, clean, quiet and safe.  The apartments , are clean , spacious and furnished with all your needs.   And the pool is awesome.  With a children's shallow pool too.  I really like it here.

Villagg tal-Fanal

I stayed for 12 nights with my family in a 2 bedroom maisonette and we were delighted with it. It was very spacious and the facilities were good. Each bedroom had 2 single beds with one of the bedrooms being en-suite with a bath. The other bathroom had a shower. 
The kitchen had a fridge freezer, microwave, toaster and a gas hob. There were English language channels including kids channels on the TV.
Outside there was a patio area with a table and chairs and a clothes lines for hanging wet clothes. There was a coin operated washing machine available and also the bedrooms had coin operated air conditioning, The main living area had fans as did the 2 bedrooms also.
We were supplied with 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel for each person and these, along with the bedclothes, were changed after a week.
The underground car park was great as ideally you need a car, especially if you have kids. There was a restaurant and shop within walking distance but to see Gozo properly a car is vital. That way you can go off the beaten track. There is a bus stop close to Villagg Tal-Fanal but it would be very hot waiting for the bus during the summer months, especially with kids.

What a great place!

We stayed three nights in that propriety, this maisonette is very clean and big. It’s suitable for families. The kitchen is well equipped. Hot water was ok. The view of the room unbelievable. The owner/staff very kind, welcomed us very well. We recommend it, because you can find there everything you need for a good holiday. The pool is big, and it’s all very quiet
