The B&B is located on the main road into Teotitlan.  The B&B is multi-leveled with a beautiful interior courtyard. We were there in late February & stayed on the ground floor where the rugs were displayed, the communal dining table and kitchen were also located. Demetrio Bautista Lazo is a most gracious host: he arranged for transportation to & from Oaxaca airport, educated us on natural dyes used in his weavings, guided us to eating locations in Teotitlan and how to use public transportation to visit the ruins in Mitla.  His wife Maribel provided the most delicious breakfasts - 2 warm dishes, fresh baked goods, fruit, yogurt, granula, fresh OJ, and coffee.  We were the only guests there at the time.  The restaurant mentioned in his website was not in operation then.
We chose this B&B because my wife, a knitter, met Demetrio at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival where he is a regular vendor.

La Cupula: a rewarding experience

My parents have been buying rugs and visiting Teotilan for over 40 years and this was my first trip since I was 10 years old. I stayed at the La Cupula and it was a tremendous experience. Everything was clean, the rooms were spacious and the food was great. My host and master weaver Demetrio made the trip even better than I could have imagined. He took me on hikes, showed me the different weaving techniques and even spent the time to show me how he creates many of the natural dyes you see in his rugs. Demetrio is one of the happiest, and kindest people I have ever met in my life and I can't wait to visit him, the La Cupula and his family again someday.

Amazing experience!

I am a novice rug weaver (inspired by my first Oaxacan rug purchase). I spent 6 weeks solo touring through southern Mexico and the best day of my trip was spent touring artesanal villages with Demetrio. La Cupola has excellent rooms, perfect breakfasts and a great location for spending time in the oldest and largest center of Zapotec rug weaving.

Historic Artesanal Zapotec Village

Stayed here for a few days of birding and a chance to visit local Zapotec weavers of wool, cotton, and silk.  Demetriou and Marivell are wonderful hosts and will provide as much or as little as their guests require.  Marivell's traditional cooking is delicious, and Demetriou's demonstration of his dyeing and weaving techniques was fascinating.  Thank goodness we are here for 5 days, as it is going to take us that long to decide which weavings we want to take home with us.

Teotitlan de Valle - Stay Here and Enjoy!

The whole family is super accommodating, and breakfast delicious. Lunch may also be served and is not to be missed. Demetrio knows everyone and can arrange trips to the local markets or to the mountains for birding. The fancier rooms will fit your fantasies of a Mexican villa. Plus you are right next door to the hottest trend in mescal, single origin Del Maguey Mezcal.

Wonderful

A group of us stayed at La Cupula for ten nights during a dyeing workshop with our host and master weaver, Demetrio Bautista Lazo. The B and B is a beautifully appointed hacienda-style accommodation with large rooms and wonderful views of the mountains. We had delicious meals prepared byDemetrio's wife and family, and     were taken to nearby sites as well as more remote communities of wool and silk spinners. Not unlike many hotels in Mexico, hot showers at La Cupula were somewhat unpredictable. Be prepared for an adventure and you will be rewarded by an attentive and helpful staff.
