A relaxed, easygoing place with a decent breakfast.  There is room to hand-wash clothes in the patio and they dry rapidly, although the place can get quite cold at night.

They display a Copper Canyon timetable but the railway website is useless and doesn't say how to book tickets, so I didn't bother with it.  I met one person who had tried to get a ticket on the train at El Fuerte but was turned away.  As a consolation, a walk to the riverside is rewarding and entertaining if you're there at weekends.

Also be warned that the bus from El Fuerte to Los Mochis can take 2 hours, so allow plenty of time if you've got a bus connection.

Fortified with breakfast

Was told to book train ticket two hours early but there was no office at station so was forced to wait 2.5 hours doing nothing.  They also charge the most expensive taxi to and from train station in my experience of 131 countries.  It’s not affordable at all.  Don’t listen to anything they say for advise.  You will regret it

Incompetent staff

I stayed here for two nights on a tour with Copper Canyon Adventures. It was a nice enough place, nothing special. Clean and in a good location. Staff were really nice too.

Breakfast was good, although I was disappointed by the instant coffee rather than fresh. Another minor issue was that breakfast was included with the tour, but on the day when I had to catch the train, breakfast could not be done any earlier, meaning that it was a massive rush to eat.

Nice Place

I stayed here twice on my way to and from Copper Canyon

The first stay was fine. The location is great just opposite the bus stop and reasonably located in town, only 5 min walk to good restaurants. The rooms where old but so are most places in town. The first time the room was clean, had all the things like AC, TV, shower, toiletries and a comfortable bed.

The second time I stayed the room (another one) was filthy. Shower hadn't had a good clean in a while with hair and bits of tissue paper in it. The basin had soap grime all around it and the mirror had smear marks on it. The wall next to the toilet needed a good scrub as well.

Based on the two stays I went middle of the road and called it average. I believe the management are doing something about it  though.

Disappointing could have been better

Breakfust was nice. Really tasty scrambled eggs with tortillas and coffee. There was problems with mold in the rooms and the staff was not verry helpfull. There was trouble with our reservation as well. 

Nice but nothing more

Good location: next to bus and very close to central square. Budget hotel (although overpriced in our mind).

Room needed cleaning: there were gecko droppings on sheets and bugs (no, they were NOT bedbugs).  Also, there is a large space under door for bugs to come in (and they do: we had a large cricket crawl on us).  No hooks,  hangers or bedside table to put anything on. We had trouble communicating with hotel staff, as our Spanish is pretty poor. Breakfast very disappointing, small and served with (only)  decaf instant coffee (and no milk or creamer).

When we returned to El Fuerte (after our trip on El Chepe), we did not return to this Hotel/Hostel.

Budget hotel... certainly could be better

$350 for tiny room. "Agua caliente" barely warm. And no breakfast as suggested by other reviews. Mattress old with springs digging in whilst sleeping. I've slept in much worse places but $350 is a rip off. Only stayed in el fuerte one night so didnt look elsewhere but sure there must be other cheap options nearby...
