I arrived around 9 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2018. Edgar checked me into my suite. After he left, I started to look around.  The main door to the suite had a push button lock and a deadbolt. The master bedroom had a door to the lobby. That door only had a push in lock; no dead bolt. The lobby was unlocked to the street. I was traveling alone and told Edgar I was not comfortable. He assured me of the safety by saying “I come back and sleep with you if you are not safe.”  I moved a table and proceeded to push the bed in front of the unsafe door. (It was extremely heavy and I had unexpected surgery 5 days prior).  I had looked for Edgar before moving the bed by myself, but he left for the evening (there is not 24 hour desk coverage). My view was a street view from the living room. I could not open the windows at night, as the latches for the screens were broken and there were no decorative screen secure covers. The "view" from my bedroom was the outside maintenance storage complete with a wheel barrel, ladder, rakes, machete, empty coke bottle, etc. The staff would not move me; nor refund my money. They would allow the normal cancellation of 50%. When I spoke to booking.com, they would also only give me 50% of my monies paid. That was the "best they could do." I told them I own a bed and breakfast and I know how the system works. That it was not “the best they could do." The best they could do is give me a credit for the balance of my stay, 4 nights and I was willing to pay for one night. After they heard I am in the lodging business, they offered a $100 voucher, then $150 voucher. That was still not good enough. I told them I will contact my bank and dispute the entire charge.  I payed awake for 2-3 hours and prayed for God to keep me safe. Then I tossed and turned from 2 am to 6 am. This was a horrible experience. I am a 3 time take survivor and have PTSD. This experience “kicked in” my PTSD causing me to be very emotional and frightened.  I was very kind when asking for a different room. I did not receive any compassion regarding the situation. I was visibly upset and Edgar didn’t seem to care.

Unsafe, unsightly room

We, 2 couples, spent 3 nights here and would return or recommend for those looking for a hotel on the beach. 

We were in the back building, without kitchen facilities, but had a coffee maker, microwave and fridge. A large jug of water is supplied. The pool is at this building, and unless you have a room on the 3rd floor, won't have a view of the ocean, but that wasn't a priority for us. The alley beside the building is very quiet so no road noise to contend with at night. Bathroom is small. We had use of the beach loungers right in front of the ocean and there was never a problem getting a chair. Beach towels are available at the front desk with a refundable deposit. Staff here are very efficient, courteous and friendly...in Spanish mostly. Everything was lovely and clean. 

Lots of great eating options within walking distance from here..a little place we went for breakfast every morning...on Av Rojo Gomez, the street heading downtown, above Brecko's Dive Shop. Ate dinner at a different place every night and all were good.

Affordable Beach Hotel

We stayed here in January and though the weather was varied between rain, cloud and sun our stay was made very enjoyable by the kindness shown by the staff and the community as a whole. The hotel is smaller with very nicely appointed suites. Ours was a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit with full kitchen. We had the only space with a private courtyard and it was wonderful. My mom enjoyed the relaxing time provided by a private space. Brenda and Jamie the managers were such kind genuine people who true love their job and love helping. The rooms are kept spotless by the friendly cleaning staff who go out of their way to make sure you are pleased. Overall I would recommend this hotel. The only negative was with my dads limited mobility it was a bit farther from town so cab rides became the norm. Loved the beach and the wonderful private area roped off for hotel guests only.

Clean with great staff

We booked a studio room under the assumption that we would be on the beach. If we had looked at the website we would have noticed that Arrecifes 2 DOES NOT have a beach/ocean view. This was most disappointing as this is why we specifically booked this hotel. None the less, the room was clean and comfortable and we overlooked a small pool. Just a few steps out around the main building you could use the lounge chairs and enjoy the beach. So if you want beach/ocean view, be sure to book Arrecifes 1 (but note that the studio suites face the parking lot)

Comfortable, but read the fine print..

Wanted a hotel directly on the beach THIS IS NOT IT! , although the hotel says it is on the beach you really get a room in the hotel on the back alley or one facing the road, You have to be extremely explicit that you are getting hotel Arricefes NOT Suites One or Two. The pictures of the rooms are from a completely different hotel, that the one shown on the beach There is a pool located at teh suites in the back alley not the one on the beach, stay on floor 2 or 3 only,, NOT the ground   The best thing about this hotel was the caretaker Jaimie ( pronounced HighMay) what a friendly fellah!
