The site is beautiful, but that is what gets all the attention from management. The room, not so much. The bed was comfortable. There is a bedside light. Wifi was good. AC works. There is a 20 gal. filtered water dispenser in the room. What Mexican staff I could find were sweet. The breakfast was plentiful, if slowly served. The place is walkable to the major attractions.

Disliked · The room is tired. No chair, or table apart from the nightstands. Linens and towels are old. No towel rack in the sink area. Dirty bath mat. Hot water was hard to get and a trickle when it arrived. The outside light was burned out. No housekeeping, but a card requesting a tip was on the nightstand. In Mexico one is asked not to flush any toilet paper. The bin with used toilet paper was not emptied until I asked after the second night (I stayed 3). That should have happened once or twice a day. Room needs fresh paint. There appears to be a newer toilet installed, but the tank is a different size and management didn't bother to paint the wall behind it before installing. There was rarely someone behind the desk after check in.
The owners are not Mexican. They are European and appear to have a pipeline of guests from their own country with whom they converse. Others, not so much. The son of the owners, a man I guessed to be in his 20s, appeared to be entertaining a group of friends during the time I was there. They were the center of attention of staff and were the dominant presence on site. Being in the dining area when they were present was like being at a private gathering without an invitation.
The price was too high considering the conditions and prevailing rates in the area. Management needs to do much more regular maintenance to bring this place up to a standard worthy of the price. 

Outside better than in

The way this hotel treated us is a DISGRACE!  It happened today as I write this review.
  We are a family with two 4 years old children.  We had booked one night from February 26-27, which was charged to us by the Hotels.com booking site.
  During the check in, the manager tells us that she has not been paid and asks us for payment, which we refuse by showing her our account statement with the amount debited.  And there, amazement, she refuses us access to our room!  Without hesitation, if we don't want to pay, we have to leave with our two 4-years-old children!!  It was 5 pm.... and we had to find a hotel room!  There was no question of paying twice for this hotel!  We had never experienced this before and yet we travel a lot.
  The least of things would have been to accept us and then see with the booking site to be paid.  Especially since on our side, we had been debited...
If you don't want to live the same misadventure, don't book the Hotel Macanche in Izamal. I'm still angry as I write this review... I can't believe we got kicked out of a hotel we paid for!  This is simply UNACCEPTABLE and INEXCUSABLE.

This hotel is a disgrace

About five long blocks from the center of Izamal, this B&B has several cottages grouped around a thatch-roofed restaurant. Breakfasts are tasty, and meals which you order (in advance) can be quite good, like their spaghetti puttanesca.

Cozy, Good Breakfast

Very friendly and helpfull staff.. the room was pretty nice and the atmosphere at the hotel was amazing.. location is pretty good just a few blocks from the centre in a quiet street.. overall very good experience.

My girlfriend loved it

My husband and I travelled with friends to the lovely town of Izamal and were fortunate to stay at this wonderful B&B!  You step off the street into a quiet oasis with lush gardens, unique lodgings, great food and smiling friendly faces. We ate dinner there and I can attest to having one of the best chili rellenos ever!  Would highly recommend!



Relaxing jungle retreat in the middle of the magical town of Izamal!

If you are traveling around the Yucatan and want a lush tropical paradise retreat as your home base, Macan Che is a great choice!  We have stayed several times and the setting is incredible.  Finding beds in Mexico that are soft enough for my preference is hit and miss so we travel with a 2" queen foam rolled tight and stuffed into a duffle bag.  It has made all the difference for my sleep quality while traveling.

Jungle Retreat

This was an economical, tranquil and beautiful place to stay. The Gardens and pool were amazing! Everything was nicely spread out, you won't feel crammed together here. A very nice breakfast is included. You can walk to the monastery in about 15 minutes.

You could hang out here all day!

We stayed for 2 nights, in the "Hawaii" room out near the pool with a naturalized stone/rock bottom and 3 hammocks in a palapa for siestas. Breakfasts were good (included) and they make good espresso. Had one fish dinner there which was good. Loved the gardens and good wifi in the common area, nada in the room.
