The Positives
- Beautiful setting
- Great layout of multiple pools and patios
- Large room layout
Safety and risk Issues
- No warning note re glass cook top. Have never seen one in Canada. It exploded and glass flew six feet ! We were lucky no one was injured!
- Ladder into upper pool is missing bottom rung results into falling into deep ish water (terrible for kids)
- Railings have 4 foot openings between wood rails (also TERRIBLE for kids)
- 3 kitchen cupboard doors were on broken hinges and could easily come off and hit someone in the head
Maintenance List
- 1 shower didn’t work at all
- Foul smell in the washroom - toilet seal shot
- Kitchen sink facet came off when water turned on, creating a waterfall 
- Kitchen sink drain non existent, so cant do dishes unless using a pot to hold water
-Missing screens on many windows and so had to close doors to prevent cats from entering
- 2 fans did not work at all during our stay
- Fridge ice maker did not work and fridge temperature was no where near cold enough - food spoiled !
Condo Appointments
- The one and only “sharp cutting knife” wouldn’t cut an avocado 
-  2 wine glasses for a unit that sleeps 8
- No dish clothes for washing or drying dishes
- Restaurant sign said restaurant was open all days, in fact it did not open until our day of departure

Lovely setting but many issues !!  Many !!

This hotel was probably great in the past and may very well be again in the future, but it is in a state of flux right now. Much building going on all over the property, but very little work being done. Just a state of disarray and construction. There is absolutely no bar or restaurant facility working at this time. Our room had been redone recently, but there was no place to hang a towel or for that matter, Hang anything. No place to put a suitcase other than the floor. Although the renovation was very recent, a recent rain was leaking through the ceiling and already starting to peel the paint off of the ceiling in the bathroom. The hot water in the bathroom was abysmal. It was either scalding or cold. To take a shower you had to try to catch it as the temperature would oscillate in one or two minutes intervals. Our room had a kitchenette, but the only utensils that were there when we arrived were four coffee mugs and four cups. No pots, pans, utensils, etc. I felt bad for the maids and the groundskeeper. They are being insufficiently supported by the owners of this establishment.

Unrealized potential 

We stayed here for a week. The spot is very central and close to amenities. The first room they gave us was an "ocean-view" room but was rather disappointing. The room opened to the patio (and no windows outside the ones that opened to the public patio), had very low ceilings and no hot water. After complaining initially the manager let me know that a better room was coming available and we cut a deal.

The 2nd room had it's own balcony, great views and even hot water! It was exactly what I pictured the experienced to be. 

The staff was friendly, the hotel was generally well kept. There is a ton of amenity space that's perpetually under-utilized and there are a few minor things that could be done that would vastly improve the experience. 

For enjoyers of wind sports for example, a hose to wash off gear near the beach, a self launch rig and a grass patch to roll gear would be invaluable. 

I would definitely recommend this hotel. Especially for the nicer room options.

Decent Spot, Amazing views

I would definitely recommend Villa Paraiso. I echo Cacochica11's review. Most rooms have an awesome view of the ocean and the island out front. It was very clean and they are working hard to improve and upgrade the complex. There are many great outdoor sitting areas throughout and unique artwork and personal touches as well. The restaurant may be open soon - it looked done when I was there in December but was not open. We got in touch with them through Facebook Messenger as they didn't reply to our email.  Everything in La Ventana has a bit more rustic charm so don't expect the glitz and amenities of a higher priced Cabo resort. We found it to be one of the most relaxing vacations ever. Lots of stairs to get to the beach and some of the rooms so keep that in mind.  Our room had coffee cups, coffee maker with filters, mini fridge. Buy drinking water.

Views, Views, Views

I actually really loved this place.  I believe it’s an older hotel that was abandoned and then brought up again recently.  It has gorgeous stonework and was built into the hill on multiple levels. It’s not at all handicap accessible and there no bellboy to help with the luggage.  But if you don’t mind lugging your stuff up and down various flights of stairs, it’s totally worth it.  We stayed in a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom with 6 huge picture windows looking out on the glorious Sea of Cortez.   We were just 10 seconds from the water which we took advantage of each morning with our SUP boards.  The suite could easily sleep 10 and the kitchen was pretty complete.  It did desperately need curtains especially at 9am as it faces directly east.   The receptionist/ management was very kind and welcoming.  She made us macaroons and was available by text for anything we needed.  The hotel doesn’t currently have a restaurant open but there are many nearby.  They should be opening a breakfast cafe on site in the next few weeks.  We really enjoyed our time there and will be back shortly as it’s only an hour drive from home.  We’ve stayed at 3 or 4 other hotels in La Ventana and so far I like this the best.  These pics are all from our room called ‘Mar Azul’

Gorgeous views from quaint beachfront rooms

Don't stay here. They demanded 100% payment up front (first clue), place is under construction (second clue). Only one other guest staying there (third clue). Then the owner shows up with 20 of his friends and proceeds to party right outside your window till 1am for 2 nights. Total disrespect for the guests. Who you gonna call? The owner is the one partying in your face. Bad vibes as well.

I'm a bit torn on this review. To be fair, most places in La Ventana are pretty bare bones.   You're generally lucky if you have a place with hot water and drinking water. With those standards, I'd rank this hotel perhaps 4 stars. I'd agree with others that this property generally feels like a ghost town - not many guests during the week and most rooms are being renovated (not open). The restaurant is also not open. 

The Good: 
- BEST views literally right on the beach. My room (The Titanic) had epic views of the sunrise.
- Most rooms have their own patio overlooking the ocean.
- If you're a kitesurfer, you can launch your kite right from the hotel.
- They provide kayaks at no extra charge.
- The hotel staff is generally nice but most don't speak much English -- so practice your Spanish or have lots of patience. :)
- The rooms have a fridge, toaster, coffee maker, and toaster oven, which can get you by if you cook creatively from your room. 
- The location is fairly central and it's close enough to many restaurants/the beach and walkable into town. 

The Not-So-Good: 
- You get hot water at most for maybe 2 minutes if you warm up the heater for 20 minutes (as other reviewers stated).
- The beds are VERY hard. I'm not a picky sleeper and these beds were almost like torture! I asked them about it since I my back was in so much pain from sleeping on them and they said they just bought brand new mattresses for all of their rooms (so all of them were the same firmness). 
- They supply no coffee or drinking water. They also don't stock your room with anything needed to cook (cups, silverware etc). You can go into their main kitchen and ask for things though. They have some drinking water you can have if you're in a bind in the kitchen as well. Otherwise, you have to walk 15 minutes to the Oxxo to grab some. 
- The wifi is pretty bad. My room (The Titanic) was the closest to the router and I could stream some stuff here and there but all other guests had literally no wifi access, unless they sat near the router. I had to work part-time while I was staying there and it was very hard to get a stable signal to have any video calls.

Best Location Right on the Beach but Below Average Amenities

This place was such a lucky find! It blends a very authentic, charming, Mexican experience with a spectacular location - the views are breathtaking and you feel at ease the moment you arrive.  The hotel is literally right on the water and the rooms are located on multiple levels facing the water - the views from the rooms are spectacular!  If you're looking for modern, this isn't the place for you; but if you come to Mexico to relax and be part of the humble charm, then this is the place.  The staff are humble and friendly and there are multiple pools and lounge areas at different levels - all with phenomenal views!  They supply kayaks at no extra charge. If you're not into stairs you may want to enquire about rooms at the upper levels (closer to road level) as the property starts at road level and descends about 5 levels to the beach.  I will definitely be back!!

A gem with incredible charm and spectacular views!

We were hoping for a memorable meal but not like that. The first course was a spinach ravioli tasty but needed another minute. The soup was very good. And the dessert was good. The mains were terrible. Cold sides. Undercooked  Wellington and a drumstick for the turkey plate. The bill was $1200 MX for the 2 of us

Thanksgiving disaster 

This place has lots of potential: beautiful views and very hard working, polite staff. Unfortunately, it looks and feels like an abandoned ghost hotel. 

- all bars have signs on them and great seating but they are all closed! You can't even have coffee in the am ... whether you want to pay for it or not
- the restaurant is also closed 
- hot water in the rooms works with a boiler that you have to turn on 20 minutes prior to showering, and in our case it never worked! Cold showers are supposed to be good for you though .... 
- the bathrooms in the rooms have no doors .... It's an 'open concept' if you want to call it something .... that means you're right in front of your honey while taking a dump... not my idea of a romantic getaway. 
- to top things off, we asked for a room change because ours had a million red ants walking on a trail right over our bed headboard.... they gave us a new room alright, but guess what, no hot water in that one either!

If it were a cheap stay my review would be quite different, but this spot charges right on par with way way better options.
